I upgraded my saving hustle from 10% of my income, to 20% of my income.
That way, I am learning to live with 80% of what I make.
Basically, I always put 20% aside first, no matter the amount.
And then, learn to live with the 80% of it.

^^ good job ladies :)

I am chiming back in to say that I'm attempting to do a "No Spend November" to help boost my savings rate, in case anyone wants to join me.

Basically means only spending money on the things you absolutely need (housing, bills, basic food), and buying zero non-essentials all month. I'm staying as frugal as possible with flexible but necessary things like groceries (definitely not eating out at any restaurants or bars, etc.) I am also trying to "shop" my pantry and freezer which are both pretty full of perfectly good food, and only go to the store when I absolutely need something.

I had a big $800 expense for some much needed repairs that I was able to pay for out of savings, so now I want to restrict my spending to get my savings goals back on track.

Fuck, thank you! It has been hard not to touch that money. I have a savings for rent only and never touch that, but I can't or else in an emergency I'll be homeless so it's easy to leave that be.

BUT that amount? I've been down to $3 in checkings and I try so hard not to touch it. I appreciate the acknowledgement as it can be tough!!!

I think I can do this. Will try with you.

Kudos to you ladies taking on No spend November. That's gotta be the hardest month not to spend with the halloween and fall clearance all the big black friday sales on the holiday, and xmas on the way? Gotta be the hardest month not to spend by far

lol, that's understandable. I personally don't need anything brand new right now so it's a good time to force myself to be disciplined around big sales like that.

I think doing any kind of "spending freeze" is a helpful challenge for anyone to learn about their spending habits, regardless of when or how long it lasts. It could be a no spend week, or a specific category of not spending, like not buying new food or new makeup, so you are forced to use up what you have before spending on anything new. it can be really enlightening to see how much money you normally spend when you're not super aware of it, and that can lead to a nice little chunk of savings by the end.

I feel like Black Friday isn't all it's hyped to be in terms of the actual discount you get anyway. And there will be lots more sales in the future. You got this. :)

Right. I don't NEED a flat screen. I've done just fine without it for 7 months. As a matter of fact, I consume LESS garbage for my mind without it. I'd like it, but it's certainly NOT a necessity.

Thanks for the encouragement. Let's do this Miss...let's fuckin rock November!!!

Actually that's an awesome psychological trick if you can save during the most sales of the year you can save anytime or if you can save X for X long then you can save more for longer !!

Literally have 2.99 in my savings account. These last two weeks were full of discouragement and laziness (because in my mind, why cam? No one's paying me anyway!) so I'm not early on my bills like I wanted. Plus my job is going to make it harder to get on like I used to. I'm hoping that the last week of this month saves my savings account.

Both of my checks arrived on Mon and I paid all bills then did something ballsy and deposited a huge amount into savings that I do NOT plan on touching.

I just want to thank both Nita and GlamoureMilf for this thread. If it wasn't for the accountability of this thread I wouldn't have much saved at all. Due to this thread I do not spend money stupidly like I used to. Going out for ping pong, drinks, and buying bad food was a regular. Purchasing wine, fast food, and Amazon shopping sprees were regular too. Instead I've done free shit: hiking, parks, and chillin with friends at their place. Legit...this thread opened my eyes to how much money I was throwing away. Fuck, thank you!!!

I kinda failed on my No Spend November by allowing myself to splurge on a few boozy social outings with friends, as well as two heavily discounted art pieces for my house. I had been eyeing them for a while and got a steal on Ebay I couldn't pass up. But I also made more than my goal for the month so it balanced out and I still hit my savings goals.

Super grateful for one of my indie regs who has been splurging like crazy on me lately. There's no way it's sustainable and I don't plan on it continuing much longer. (Although he keeps saying he needs to cut back, but then never does, lol.) I respect if he needs to do that, but I feel that it's also up to him to have the discipline to do it in the first place. I told him I'm not his wife, mom, or financial adviser. Definitely not my job to tell him "No, you can't spend any more on me." I don't ask him for shows, but if he offers one, I will not say no.

I just checked my first post here in September. I started with about 3800 in savings, with a goal of hitting 7.5 to 10k by the end of the year. Currently at 8500. 15k is my emergency fund goal to complete by the end of next summer. I am going to push hard to hit that 10k milestone next month.

^hell yeah.

Thanks. I’m excited to join, today i realized i saved up $400 over the year for emergencies & technically with me saving $1000 of my started emergency fund, i should combine the money right?

So I’m currently at $469/ $1000.

Yeah. The only said thing is i created this for emergencies when im short on bills so i dont put said bills on my credit card. Right now im experiencing the “summer” slow down for me always hit October/November. This month im $516 short, obviously i should take the money out my “bills fund”. But with all that pretty money sitting there showing my hard work i dont want to touch it. Anyone else feeling like this?

Miss_ShaSha
11-22-2019, 01:59 PM
^^Yes, seeing my savings is so gratifying. It's become this new obsession. I dunno, I used to burn through money. Now...legit I've got $38 in checking and don't even wanna touch my pretty savings. I don't even think that I have savings right now. I don't even think "oh, I can pull from here." I'm obsessed with making it grow bigger and bigger.

I have a rent account that I NEVER touch unless I'm short on rent and this savings for summer slow down. I've never been good with money. Sex work may be terrible in many ways, but it's the best thing that's ever happened to me savings-wise.

Keep admiring what you've saved. You've done good.

queenelayliah
11-22-2019, 02:03 PM
^ Thanks.

But sadly i am $516 short on bills so either i pull it from savings or i put it on my credit card. Causing high interest & bigger monthly payments.

Put i dont want to touch my savings either. But if i dont i cant pay rent,

It's not looking good. How is everyone else doing? My 4 new sites haven't amounted to 1 payout yet. Starting to feel really down about this. I can't even blame myself because I'm hustling my ass off with streams and content.

Well I need to make it all during this week or I'm not going to be able to take february off this year. I will start planning for next year I guess. Maybe someday I will get a vacation. Had to take all of the savings I had to put into bills since all of my december checks were late. Hope everyone else is doing better.

I'm not sure if anyone has linked these anywhere but I'd like to share, and if its a dupe I apologize, but this is an easy way to save money all year. I almost got close on mine last year but then things happened and I ended up having to use the money so I re-started in November to do it again so I can use the money this year for Christmas. ;)

There is 2 diff variations depending on what you want your year end balance to look like:

OF COURSE you can! Do it;) I'll post mine and update along with ya.

My savings plan for this year along with the 52 week money challenge (for xmas fundage) is saving 50/week (without touching it!) just to have some emergency savings, as well as my husband and I combined are putting 20/week (from each of us) into a savings account from each of our checks ;)

Working hard is good, but so is saying "no" to things you don't need. New shoes? You got ten and winter boots. Don't. Take out? YOu know you have groceries in the fridge and pantry. Don't. Dinks with the friends? Invite them over and a get a deal on a good couple bottles of wine. Compromise.

You get it. I saved so much so fast as I said no to all kinds of shit I was doing with my paychecks. Practice some self control and it goes a long way.

Oh yes this!!! I always tell myself, "Don't buy another shirt if you have a shirt already." "Hungry out? You have full meal ingredients at home to cook." My husband and I stopped going out to eat 1-2 times a week at restaurants. Now if we don't want to cook, our budget is under $15 for both of us if we pick up food. We split large portions at Panda Express and get the cheaper items at Wendy's with their promotions. Our quality of life hasn't changed one bit either. We really loved going to steakhouses. Instead we bought the meat and potatoes at the store the night we would have normally went out. Both of us ate a $115 restaurant meal for less than $10 each with less than a 20 minute cooking time.

We do get pedicures 1-2 times a month. Even though I love the extended massages, the $30 pedicure is just as good as the $68 pedicure all in all.

That's great advice, ladies - thank you.

I've got a lot better with clothing - way more sensible as I hate clutter. I do have to admit I eat out once per week and I pay for the gym..these are both things I really enjoy but definitely trying to let it not get out of control. Drinks home with friends can be just as fun if not better..no idiots to contend with!

I've stopped getting my nails done as it was just ruining them and I have developed an allergy to eyelash extensions (sob!). So apart from lip fillers every few months, I'm aiming to keep that to a minimum. I do miss the extensions but they were ridiculously pricey as my retention is awful.

Started an automatic fund for my estimated taxes for 2020 (due in 2021) for the amount I hope to make this year plus some buffer. Also added a new car fund so by the end of the year i'll have enough for a decent down payment on top of the trade in for my dream car. I haven't had a new car since i was 18 and my current car (different one) is ancient (thankfully it runs amazing but tbh I can finally afford something newer next year). Looking forward to my convertible!!
