How do you input time so it calculates the hours correctly and does all the math?
On the spreadsheet template they sent us, if you type in your hours (as in the time you logged on and off), it automatically calculated the total hours for that shift and then total for the week, rounding to the nearest decimal point. I'm not sure why some girls are having such issues? It was super simple for me. I'm actually surprised they bothered creating a spreadsheet with formulas. That was really nice and helpful.
Edit: I opened their spreadsheet in Google sheets, straight from my email. Then I duplicated the template and typed in my hours. It did the rest of the work. I just had to export and send it.

Oh maybe that's the glitch! I'm not a fan of excel. Honestly with us having an hr company I'm surprised they don't have a tracking/time clock function.

If for some reason the formulas aren't working, you can also go to your SM "time online" page and take the minutes you worked in a day, and divide that number by 60 to get your hours. round it to the nearest tenth of a decimal, as that's what the template did for me. (This will be more complicated if you're tracking a bunch of split shifts, but it's still a good way to double check that your total numbers are correct.)

With the issue RE: the removal of static profile pics - I emailed SM support about it this morning because my profile pic switched to live as well and they changed it back to a static one. I'm under the impression that for tech/account stuff we still reach out SM support.
I've written SM support about it three times and they still haven't fixed it.

Has anyone gotten a response from support or Liz or CalGems regarding the pause button and lack of block sessions?
I emailed Liz on Friday, no response yet. I am going to do a shift later and if all the same issues are there I'll send a generic tech support email too.

I haven't heard back from either one of them and I really want to raise my fn rates!
In the past when I emailed SM support about an issue I would get some sort of canned email response, but I haven't received dick. I'm so disenchanted with how this is playing out, maybe this is the push I need to finally get out of camming. One of the things that I loved about this industry was how carefree it was, just turn the cam on make some dough, turn the cam off, rinse and repeat and get a check, end of story. Now it just feels frustrating, like we don't matter. I wouldn't be surprised if they just pulled the plug on us. Sorry for the rant.

Same here. My account has been all sorts of jacked up since the switchover and I have no one to actually get ahold of. I feel like it's SM basically telling me to go elsewhere.

I haven't heard back either. I'm assuming they're overloaded with things that happened over the weekend and playing catch-up. I think there's a lot of things that happen along the way that they were not anticipating. I don't think they're going to pull the plug either. They went to a lot of trouble I feel like to keep the CA girls.

I've been camming for 10 years and nobody knows that I do this, excpet a couple of long term boyfriends. So when it comes to anything that has to with camming there just isn't anyone for me to talk to, and camming is a big part of life, I live a double life and it can be very isloating.
All my friends and family think I make my money from a small business that I own but I can't support myself just on that, so I cam. This is a bit of a stressful time, it's our livelihood that's being monkeyed around with, so I just wanted to thank you all for your support, because if it wasn't for you amazing ladies I would be internalizing all of this.

Is it just me or is Connect been acting up? I had to go to flash/classic.
Edit, being on the original platform paid off better for me than dicking with SMConnect and getting pissed. I did well for the few hours I was on, blew past the hourly minimum wage goal. It is gut wrenching to see the cut difference in earnings, but that is out of my control, I am happy I am able to do this as a side hustle.
A few of you saying that you guys don’t have block sessions, that is strange, mine are available and had one this evening in fact.
I do have to say over these last few months with all this stress and chaos of the switch you girls have REALLY helped keep me going & positive!

I had a few people tell me my feed would freeze randomly every once in a while, but it didn't seem to hinder shows too much. I wasn't noticing anything acting up on my end of SMC.
Maybe I'll play around with going back to SMB tomorrow for a bit.
I'm jealous you have block sessions... I keep losing shows over it. It sucks because I don't want to sound like an asshole by explaining to the guys that they don't even save *that much* money with a 15 minute/5% discount block, because then they won't buy them anymore, lol. It's nice to have that guaranteed time/money, but at $10/minute they only save less than a minute's worth in a 15 minute block. It's annoying that like three of my regs don't seem to understand the math and refuse to just take me for a regular show and spend a whole $7 more. >_<
Anyway, end of rant. I sent a message to SM support tonight (as well as Liz on Friday). I hope someone gets back to me soon.

I am really glad I found this thread also! I took a very long break from this forum because it can be kind of negative but I generally just stick to this thread and I'm good LOL. It sucks for you guys that have been getting 35% because I've been getting 30% and I'm used to it so I'm not really missing out on too much. But I have noticed that I'm definitely paying more attention to my money and my hourly and that's actually gone up since the switchover. I feel like this whole thing for me has been a good reminder that there's other ways to make money this is not the only way, there's other sites and other side hustles. In other news I still don't have all my features back. They really should get on that like ASAP

yeah, I've taken this is whole situation as an opportunity to branch out and get some regulars over to indie (or really any guy that has spent good money and isn't an asshole, lol). I plan to be using SM a lot less, and primarily as a platform to find new customers, hope that they find me on social media, and then bring them over to skype and keep 85%.

I got a very brief email back from Liz saying "you should be good now."
I checked and I do have access to my block session part of the dashboard again.
I'll have to see about the pause button later when I log on.
I didn't ask her about not being able to raise rates because I didn't realize it until after I sent the email. That hasn't been changed yet on my end. I did mention it to SM support in an email last night though, so hopefully they see it/fix it.

Maybe try CG. They were actually pretty nice and their email to me. Here's what they said:
Hello,
We will be sending out more information on time tracking within the next couple of days.
We have also updated your account to address the following:
1. Static profile pic enabled
2. Rate limits increased
3. Discount sessions enabled.
4. Break button enabled.
If you notice any other discrepancies with your account, please let us know.
Thank you,

Ok....dumbass question of the day...why have I never noticed a break button before? If I did have it, where would it be?
It's something you have to ask for -- it doesn't inherently come with your account. But it's a pause icon usually located near the "stop/start show" button with whatever encoder/broadcaster you're using. It allows you to take a break of up to 10 minutes while still streaming. On the customer end they see a screen that says "I'm taking a short break."

I never use mine. I'd rather log off. I think it counts as your online time so I try not to use it. That's just my theory I could be wrong.

It's definitely personal preference. I have a lot of regs who hang out/wait in my room while I'm in a private, or they refresh to see if I am back after an exclusive. So I wouldn't want to log off and accidentally make them think I'm done for the night.
It does count as time online, yes. Sometimes this can be of slight benefit such as in the case of hour-related bonuses in contests. Even while using the pause button it still counts towards your "25 hours online." I wouldn't abuse it in that way though. Just offering another perspective. As long as I'm hitting my general hourly goals, taking a few minute breaks here and there barely affects my earnings versus time online.
Edit -- also, taking a short break instead of logging off and back on will make my time tracking a bit more simple. We don't need to track those breaks. Only the ones where we actually "log off for lunch" after 5-6 hours.

This morning I received an email from Cal Gems stating that they the reinstated all my requests, hopefully you got one as well. I'm so happy that you are making $$$! Iv'e yet to get online since the switch. I'm raising my rates today, I always get a little nervous when I do an increase, but I need to remember that when I first started out my rates were 3.99/4.99 and I've increased them all the way up to 8.99/9.99, and 95% of the time I get zero push back and the guys who do, oh well too bad for them. So ladies, don't be afraid to raise your rates, don't work longer and harder because of the decrease. Guys will pay a high price to get off just as women will pay $40 for mascara.
May you all have a prosperous day!

I increased mine as well, I noticed yesterday my highest available was bumped up to $14.99, I raised it to $9.99 right now from $7.99. Last night sucked though, like BAD....didn’t make more than what hourly rate could be. Fuck it, 2 previous nights went surprisingly well. AB5 is a California specific Assembly Bill. Federally, the PRO (Protect the Right to Organize) Act (HR 2474) is what's being proposed by House Democrats.
It's hard to talk about HR2474 without talking about politics... Which is against the rules here.
I'll leave a link. https://californiaglobe.com/section-2/on-the-heels-of-ab-5-congress-proposes-bill-to-overturn-right-to-work-states/
"Although the Republican controlled Senate is not expected to pass the bill, Democrats are showing their cards on what they will do if they control the Senate. The Republicans meanwhile are are working hard to establish more Right to Work states, and further reduce labor’s political influence in the workplace."
Not sure if quoting this from the article breaks the politics rule. If so, I can remove it.

so even if this did go thru, although it says its not expected to go thru, would it cause models to lose their job with streamate and other sites? These look like 2 different things?

the big similarity is that the bill seeks to redefine what an employee is. if anything were to go through on a federal level, there would be massive pushback and consequences. there are ~56 million freelancers/independent contractors in the US that would be affected.
it's impossible to say how it will specifically affect any industry. i would hope that camsites (at least those based in the US) would find a way to comply in order to keep their models working. otherwise their businesses would collapse.
anonamiss
02-06-2020, 01:12 PM
If anyone is worried about this happening in their state or on a federal level, it may be wise to consider what happened with Streamate as an example for what *could* happen on a larger scale.
Streamate decided to hire CA models as employees, and looked at their past performance in order to determine who to offer employment to and who to let go. No one seems to know the exact criteria they used, but it was clear that they were selective. I think it makes sense to assume that at a minimum, they looked at your overall amount of time spent on the site versus your average earnings.
So if you barely put in hours or if you don't make more than minimum wage on a regular basis on whatever sites you work, I would say, start focusing on increasing your hours and your earnings. That way if any new laws do end up affecting you, you'd presumably be more likely to be hired on as an employee if that's what it comes down to.

No. The bill seeks to amend the National Labor Relations Act, effectively making it so you can't legally be considered an independent contractor unless you pass the same ABC test used in AB-5.
This is a direct quote from HR 2474. Source: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/2474/text
Sec. 2. AMENDMENTS TO THE NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS ACT.
(1) JOINT EMPLOYER.—Section 2(2) of the National Labor Relations Act (29 U.S.C. 152(2) (http://uscode.house.gov/quicksearch/get.plx?title=29§ion=152)) is amended by adding at the end the following: “Two or more persons shall be employers with respect to an employee if each such person codetermines or shares control over the employee’s essential terms and conditions of employment. In determining whether such control exists, the Board or a court of competent jurisdiction shall consider as relevant direct control and indirect control over such terms and conditions, reserved authority to control such terms and conditions, and control over such terms and conditions exercised by a person in fact: Provided, That nothing herein precludes a finding that indirect or reserved control standing alone can be sufficient given specific facts and circumstances.”.
(2) EMPLOYEE.—Section 2(3) of the National Labor Relations Act (29 U.S.C. 152(3) (http://uscode.house.gov/quicksearch/get.plx?title=29§ion=152)) is amended by adding at the end the following: “An individual performing any service shall be considered an employee (except as provided in the previous sentence) and not an independent contractor…
The A,B,C Test in HR 2474
(A) the individual is free from control and direction in connection with the performance of the service, both under the contract for the performance of service and in fact;
(B) the service is performed outside the usual course of the business of the employer; and
(C) the individual is customarily engaged in an independently established trade, occupation, profession, or business of the same nature as that involved in the service performed.”.
-------------
Edit: It is the "B" portion that screws with cammodels the most. Chaturbate has made an attempt to get around this in their revised Performer Agreement by claiming their main course of business is the streaming technology itself, and that the models interacting with customers on the platform are a separate/secondary part of the business, thus allowing models to remain contractors. But that is exactly the same defense Uber is trying to claim, and I personally think it's bullshit. Camsites would have no reason to exist without the models, and wouldn't make any money without us. So I don't see how they can justifiably claim that cammodels streaming on the site aren't the primary course of business. (For the record, I think the ABC test is way too broad which is harming a ton of industries. I think we should be classified as contractors because we set our own rates and hours. It's plain and simple. But we arguably don't pass the current ABC test.)
What I hope is that over the next several months, everyone will realize the gravity of the situation in California (tons of contractors losing jobs and not benefitting from the bill at all) and therefore fully grasp how detrimental it would be to enact something similar on a federal level.

I'm honestly not sure what the author meant there. It's right there in the bill. There will be a new definition of employees; I copy and pasted it. It's literally the federal version of AB-5 (seemingly without any exemptions which is also going to be super problematic.)
Unless I am totally misunderstanding -- but from the many concerning articles that come up if you google something like "HR 2474 independent contractors", along with the literal language of the bill, it seems pretty straightforward to me.

So if you barely put in hours or if you don't make more than minimum wage on a regular basis on whatever sites you work, I would say, start focusing on increasing your hours and your earnings. That way if any new laws do end up affecting you, you'd presumably be more likely to be hired on as an employee if that's what it comes down to.
my downfall is hours online- get my hours in order, maybe i can join the 10k minutes a month thread.
glass half full
if it passes i plan on taking full advantage of benefits.
now it goes to the senate and so we wait, we have more than a month to prepare and that takes a lot of pressure off
I wonder if we can create a private group here to discuss the actual politics of this law

I agree. It's Valentine's Day, a great time to get money up and keep eyes open for all options. I'm definitely getting more hours in either way. We are very resilient, we've got this.

As employees, wouldn't our taxes be much lower? Not having to pay self employment taxes sounds like a blessing to me.
I'm trying to look on the bright side:).

Depends on how much you generally write off. As employees we aren't able to make the same deductions that we can while self-employed. But in general, yes, as an employee the general tax liability (not including deductions) is a bit lower, because you only have to pay for half of your FICA tax.
However, in the case of Streamate, they lowered our commissions to make up for the HR/admin costs, so even though they are withholding our taxes and paying for their share of FICA, many girls (myself included) will be taking home less than if we were self-employed.

Just an FYI to anyone working on Streamate -- it looks like we'll get paid on time from our last few days before the CalGems switchover. You can still access your old payment history page with this link - https://www.streamatemodels.com/payments/history.php - which shows that our last SM payments were sent out. (I have direct deposit and it says it'll be there tomorrow. Yay.)

I was talking to a mod via PM about this thread and she said "If you guys want to create a private group where you can discuss politics then have at it." I didn't even know private groups were a thing here. Where do you access them? How do you start one?

id rather pay tax and be fully in control.
For me, NC is not required by law to Provide a employee w any benefits including breaks unless 15yro or younger. ... a person simply has a awesome employer if offered benefits.
State and federal employees get perks, the rest of us are fucked.
for christ sake min wage is 7.25 a hour but the average rent is 1100 -2k and thats the low side.
If this law goes into place and Streamate offers benefits across the board, no biggie. That’s up to Streamate.
In North Carolina you show up and act right, if your no good for business be prepared to kick rocks. We have zero protection.
check individual states employment laws to see if you are safe
And for Christ sake, fuck a union. The corniest shit for camgirls. Stripperweb is our union
1.9 percent of wage and salary workers in North Carolina were members of unions -- teachers, postal typical govt unions

I could not agree with this more.
