Okay....So, I have a slight concern. It really has been slow, especially today, barely anyone in my room. When I do get anyone they jump in & out. I know we are really supposed to be doing better than the hourly rate, if this continues for this week, I don't even know if I can keep it above that, whatever they have it at. I am guessing the average is $12. But fuck, this is just depressing how slow it is. I hope they keep this shit into account

Unfortunately, HR2474 passed the house today and will advance to the Senate vote next. Call. Your. Representatives.
Since it passed the house , does that mean that it will more than likely happen?
id rather pay tax and be fully in control.
For me, NC is not required by law to Provide a employee w any benefits including breaks unless 15yro or younger. ... a person simply has a awesome employer if offered benefits.
State and federal employees get perks, the rest of us are fucked.
for christ sake min wage is 7.25 a hour
I'd rather pay taxes and be in full control too. Also, if this goes thru and they only pay us minimum wage, minimum wage in my state is only $7.25 too. there is no way I can pay all my bills with minimum wage! So is that how streamate is doing it, only paying what the minimum wage for your state is? And nothing else? No bonuses, etc?
Another thing I don't understand is why is Streamate one of the only ones that went with hiring cam models as employees? I haven't heard of anyone else doing that other than streamray maybe? Am I missing any of the others that's doing it? I have a vanilla egg that I used to do before camming, but I have not worked it since 2015 but I don't see anything in the forums about ab5. Makes me wonder if any vanilla work at home companies are treating california workers the same way?

oof, that sucks, i haven't worked the past few days but was going to get back to it tonight.
i wouldn't worry about a bad couple of days or even a bad week, in terms of keeping your hourly rates up. it happens. i'd only be concerned if it was a more long term thing, like several weeks/paychecks in a row of what looks like bad performance/bad earnings.
they also acknowledged there were glitches and tech issues this week. i don't think they're going to hold it against any of us.

It is either/or...So if your commission of shows is higher than what the pay of the hours you put in at minimum wage, you get paid that, if it is less you get the minimum wage amount.

not at this time, no. the house is democrat controlled, so it makes sense that it passed. the senate is a republican majority and republicans are highly against this.

no, we just have a lower commission percentage. we keep 29% instead of 35% now, and we are still eligible for contests, bonuses, etc. you only get paid minimum wage if you don't already make the equivalent of it with your own commissions.

I won't worry too much then....It is just a buzz kill that it is like this. I also had to email them about my SMConnect not working. I have to use Broadcast/OBS or Classic....So fucking strange.
Good luck tonight. I am pulling a 8 hour shift today.

What about split camming? Are California models still able to be on other sites at the same time and do skype shows thru cmd , etc?

i've never seen anything in our terms specifically mentioning split camming, however I was always under the impression it was frowned upon and possibly against the rules considering that our agreements say that Streamate owns all of our content. I doubt if you were to ask SM directly that they'd say it was okay. I always thought girls just splitcam and get away with it because it'd be hard to regulate, but it's not expressly allowed. I could be wrong.
[edit: If I recall correctly, in one of the C4S or APAG legal discussions about AB-5 and webcamming, lawyers were saying that if you become an employee of one cam company they could put it in your contract that you can't work for another big box site/competitor, so in that case splitcamming definitely wouldn't be allowed.]
IMO there is no reason why indie sites would have to change anything. They are definitely not our employers. They are just our payment processors, so there should be no issue with us staying independent contractors for them.

they told me our first Calgems paycheck will be on February 13th. I assume that's the day they'll send out ACH, so I would expect to get it the next day/Friday if you signed up for direct deposit.
so it looks like our first pay period goes from 1/29 through 2/8. then the next one would be 2/8 to 2/22 and so on.
Hello,
You will submit a timesheet on the 2nd and the 9th. This is your two-week period. You will them be paid out on the 13th.
"On Sunday, February 2nd, you will submit hours for January 30th through February 1st. Hours for Sunday the 2nd will be tracked on your next timesheet, due February 9th."
Using the above, you can extrapolate all future pay cycles, if that helps?
Thank you,
CAL Gems
So does anyone know if our pay period ends on the 8th or 9th?

Such a pain! I take a ton of breaks and I just can't be bothered, plus I forget to write down every single time I log on and & log off. I think they are mostly concerned with the models who make less than minimum wage/full-time models. I could be wrong but if you are part-time and clearly make way, way over minimum wage per hour then I don't think you have to be super detailed. And if that's the case, I don't think the part-time models should have to fill out a time card.

It would have been nice to get some kind of acknowledgment response from either of our time sheet emails. Did anyone? I feel like I just sent them into the void and I'm not even sure if they received them or if I did them to their standards.

It looks like you can log into resourcing edge and look at payment information. That might be one way to track when we're getting paid for sure. I bet they're just stockpiling our timesheets just in case. I wonder if SM ever feels like they overreacted about this whole thing. It will definitely be nice to get paid this week, I feel like that will relieve a little bit of stress about all of the unknowns.

Was anyone else confused setting up direct deposit? Where it was talking about "remainder"? I put an email out to Melissa to make sure that I get 100% of my earnings but I was really confused on what the remainder is. I guess there's that for something like if you wanna deposit half of it into savings or half of it into your checking.

This is what I assumed. Lots of people do automated savings out of their paychecks. I think this makes way more sense when you're getting paid a consistent wage, though. Since we get different amounts every paycheck, I'd much rather control my finances all on my own end.
I can't remember how I filled it out exactly (I completed that part during the initial onboarding weeks ago) but the intention was to have 0 remainder and 100% of the deposit into checking, so hopefully I did that right. I also have no idea if I got my withholdings right. Ideally I don't want them overwithholding because tax refunds are stupid, but it's a strangely difficult thing to calculate.

There is a test calculator under your direct deposit online and I just average what I’ll be getting after 15.4% taken out after taxes (that is my rough estimate) and it states that is the total deposit and $0.00 to check.

I just got a response about the remainder thing on the paychecks. It sounds like we all filled it out right. They also sent out a guide to the most common questions… But of course they didn't attach it to my email. I don't understand every attachment they ever send I have to ask them to reattach. And a new timesheet apparently.

That's odd that you never get the attachments on the first go-around. I got both.
I don't see any changes in the new/updated timesheet. I asked what they changed.
There is one part of the new FAQ I don't like, which is "You should also log all non-streaming time that is directly related and necessary to generating sales on Streamate.com. Here are a few examples of non-streaming work:
• Preparing for a show on Streamate.com, cleaning up after a show.
• Updating your Streamate bio.
• Uploading videos to Streamate.
• Updating your timesheet for CAL Gems.
• Attempting to stream, but unable due to a Streamate outage. "
I feel like all this does is make discrepancies in our hours tracked while live streaming on SM versus random other times offline that we're not getting paid. (Since they're not getting tracked on SM's "time online" page, how are they supposed to verify this?) Also by tracking your "non-streaming time", it's just going to make it look like we're making less per hour. Considering how they implied that we're working "competitively" (and therefore might be eligible for a percentage raise in the future?), the last thing I want to do is make it look like I'm making them less money by adding non-paid/non-live time into my paid time averages.
GracieBlue
02-11-2020, 01:17 PM
Now I'm curious to see it! I actually like that we can log our time for doing streamate related tasks. I think that's fair. I wouldn't worry about your hourly too much unless you're spending like two or three extra hours a week doing off-line stuff. I would assume if they're going to raise our percent in the future they're going to base it on online time and sales.

Pay day is tomorrow! I'm not seeing anything updated on the employee portal. Any updates on this with anyone? I'm curious if it will actually go through. It's nerve-racking for this first time! I looked at my paycheck PDF via the dashboard, my hours and gross pay are correct. When they initially told us our paychecks will "go out" on the 13th, I assumed it would mean it would get sent out that day and we wouldn't actually see it deposited until Friday the 14th. Guess we'll see if that assumption was correct.
However I noticed they didn't deduct any federal or state income tax; they did withhold FICA/social security. I know this is a specific tax question and different for everyone, but out of curiosity - is anyone here "single" (for tax purposes) without any dependents? If so what did you claim/how much was taken out? I claimed "one" and they didn't take any income tax out.
I really would rather not pay to see a CPA over this, it shouldn't be that damn complicated. Gah. Maybe it's good though. I can just estimate/take it out myself and add it to my tax savings from other self-employed work and pay it all quarterly.

FEDERAL INCOME
FICA - MEDICARE
FICA - OASDI

Apparently we have to go into the tax section of the portal and go through this little wizard to fill out the forms for correct withholding.
I found this tutorial they did on it. It walks you through. I didn't have fed or state taken out and my dashboard had these forms as 'not submitted' until I did it just now. They REALLY should have told us this explicitly so we'd all know and get that done so we don't owe a bunch at the end of the year.
