This is not true
Testing is what helps us figure out where we are
Where the virus is
Where it is moving
Actually, testing is everything
the failure to get testing started early is why we are guessing now
Now when we see cases spike we do not know if it is increased testing or increased cases
Testing 4-6 weeks ago would make the experts jobs now easier
That is true and I ought to have made myself clearer in that testing doesn't do that much for the symptomatic patient. It does help society as a whole.

Have you ever wondered if these psychics were truly psychic, why do they need signs and lights on 24 hours a day for their parlours if they know the exact time when people will come up their walkway?
Lets be real people the majority from Singapore were recovered in 2 weeks after infection, and they dont have the greatest medical system there.
This virus does show the major weakness in socialized medicine how quickly it was overwhelmed in most places.
Actually Singapore has a very good medical system.

The only good thing about this global freak out about the pandemic is- it will usher in some long overdue changes in how North America does business globally and how we assess our readiness to deal with these sorts of emergencies.
Yes, exactly.
Plus if something like the Black Plague hits, we'll be far more prepared.
With the current overpopulation, that could easily happen in the next few decades.

... I don’t mean to cheer you up even more, but last year there was a typhus epidemic in downtown Los Angeles due to all the trash in the street. Not sure if it’s been cleaned up yet.
I just hope that people learn from their mistakes and that the next generation growing up in this mess has a healthy respect for nature. : )

Yeah BUT that typhus outbreak was mostly thanks to all the homeless living on the street ; not showering and otherwise letting themselves be infested with lice and mites. Which is where typhus comes from.

Anyone think Trump was wrong to slap a travel ban on China ? If only he had gone further and included Taiwan , Hong Kong , Japan and Korea .
Taiwan has done an exceptional job of keeping Covid-19 under control.

Very interesting, one study and it was not even single blind, but although it has side effects it is a pretty widely known drug for a very long time
Won't that piss off the drug companies if it proves out.....

The length will depend almost entirely on community response to the directives.
This is not like the flu or a bad cold, though it is a respiratory infection. For example, the death rate is 10X that for the flu.
No one knows especially, the young, on just how severe it will become for them.
I worry about clubs closiing under orders. Maybe it's time for online eroticism, now that so many have to stay home.

In a few weeks a lot of those idiots will be sick and some hospitalized, not to mention the elderly and immune compromised people they infect. Apparently they don't care if they sicken or kill their parents or grandparents. Also there are more young people being put into ICU care than first expected.
We have all been under-reacting. I was stupid enough to still be eating out and socializing a couple weeks ago before I realized how serious it is. Just look at Italy, with so many bodies they had to call in their army to transport them to other areas to bury and cremate. Hospitals in New York are already being overrun and it's nowhere near at it's peak.
If we had handled this right we would not be in this situation.
"Goldman, who is also a nurse, says that Elmhurst Hospital and NYU’s Brooklyn campus are seeing their intensive care units filled with a share of patients under 40 years old they had not anticipated.
“It’s not who we were expecting,” she says.
Over half of all Covid-19 patients in New York are between 18 and 49, the state says."

My cat, Jazz, requires a specific brand of prescription food. If he eats anything else, he could literally die. Apparently, I got the last bag last week because they've been sold out ever since. There's a notice now about long delays, etc. I do have some stored away, but it might not last.
While other people were rushing for toilet paper, some had better priorities.

And I've been dealing with the Precor people all year to figure out what mystical forces are conspiring to prevent my elliptical from working. That's one of the best things for my anxiety. They don't seem to understand why letting strangers whose job is going into other stranger's homes *might* give someone cause for concern.
And my psychiatrist just let me know she's doing telephonic appointments for the time being. I hate talking on the phone. It's literally on my list of things to talk about.

It looks like in 2 weeks from now, the government will reevaluate the situation upon gathering enough statistical information and choose whether to continue the "stay at home" policy and get a bad recession or bet on a lesser evil, i.e. urging the most vulnerable population to stay at home while allowing healthy people return to work. I believe healthy people will probably be required to wear protective masks and keeping distance from others while conducting business. There will still be deaths from the virus but hopefully not as many if precautions are taken by everyone. Lap dances may become a thing of the past, at least for a few more weeks or months, I believe.

Trump was given warnings by our intelligence agencies about the seriousness of this virus back in January, and he downplayed its seriousness and did not take any strong measures until the virus started to spread across the country. If the entire country had taken the measures we're taking now back in January, the virus would probably be contained by now, and far fewer Americans would have died.
From:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/us-intelligence-reports-from-january-and-february-warned-about-a-likely-pandemic/2020/03/20/299d8cda-6ad5-11ea-b5f1-a5a804158597_story.html
U.S. intelligence agencies were issuing ominous, classified warnings in January and February about the global danger posed by the coronavirus while President Trump and lawmakers played down the threat and failed to take action that might have slowed the spread of the pathogen, according to U.S. officials familiar with spy agency reporting.
The intelligence reports didn’t predict when the virus might land on U.S. shores or recommend particular steps that public health officials should take, issues outside the purview of the intelligence agencies. But they did track the spread of the virus in China, and later in other countries, and warned that Chinese officials appeared to be minimizing the severity of the outbreak.
Taken together, the reports and warnings painted an early picture of a virus that showed the characteristics of a globe-encircling pandemic that could require governments to take swift actions to contain it. But despite that constant flow of reporting, Trump continued publicly and privately to play down the threat the virus posed to Americans. Lawmakers, too, did not grapple with the virus in earnest until this month, as officials scrambled to keep citizens in their homes and hospitals braced for a surge in patients suffering from covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Intelligence agencies “have been warning on this since January,” said a U.S. official who had access to intelligence reporting that was disseminated to members of Congress and their staffs as well as to officials in the Trump administration, and who, along with others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive information. “Donald Trump may not have been expecting this, but a lot of other people in the government were — they just couldn’t get him to do anything about it,” this official said. “The system was blinking red.”
Also, Trump has not made any significant effort to increase the supply of ventilators or PPE for healthcare workers, despite the shortages. Trump has the authority to order industry to increase production of equipment necessary for treating the virus, but so far he has not taken action. Healthcare workers are risking their lives to treat patients who have the virus because of inadequate PPE.

Why bring this up? Eagle2 is referencing facts from articles. He is backing up his views with facts. It's not necessary to get negative if you don't agree with someone.

Was the demand for ventilators during H1N1 as great as it is now? I don't live in NY so I don't know. If you could reference an article relating to this, I'd really like to know more.

Precor people are being dicks. I don't get how they have such a good reputation. I'm inconveniencing them by asking them to fix the defective machine they sold me. I really could have used a good workout during the mild panic attack I had today.
Good news: as I was putting together a first aid kit for my pets, I found a whole pack of face masks!

Quarantine is 40 days. I am looking at the curve in China, they are on day 39. The curve started flattening after around day 35-36. Scroll down to see the chart, I posted this link previously, it's VERY informative:
https://coronavirus.1point3acres.com/en
Here's some history:
The practice of a quarantine as we're familiar with it likely began in the Middle Ages, according to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control. In the 14th century, ships arriving in Venice from areas struck with the Black Death (bubonic plague) were required to anchor away from port for 40 days before docking. The Italians called it "quaranta giorni," or "40 days," which evolved into "quarantino." The 40-day quarantine was so effective that it became standard practice in Europe for the next 300 years.

I’m thinking it will die down by summer. But it’s never going away until we get a vaccine. We need places dedicated to treating covid19. Hospitals aren’t cutting it. Hire doctors and pay them more to treat the corona patients because even if we all go back to work in a month....we can all still get it.
