If you haven't filed a tax return in 2018 or 2019, use the link above to file one. It's free if you don't use 1099 form.

It is well known when people come into money, the money does not last long. A thousand dollars is not much but better than nothing.

I filled my 2019 taxes today. Does anyone know at this point if they will issue my stimulus check based on the 2018 or 2019 return? I wasn't one of the first to receive.

I didn't. The tax website I use had my bank account info saved from last year, but idk if that means the IRS had it. I set it to link to the IRS now (they had this option specifically for the stimulus checks), so hopefully I will receive mine soon.

You can check your payment status here: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment
If IRS has your bank info, it should say: IRS had scheduled your deposit 4/15/2020. Otherwise, if it will say you are qualified for the payment but we don't have your bank info yet.
In that case, you need to update the bank info on that page. But don't bother to do it now, the website is not working correctly for update your bank info. You will have to wait for tomorrow... (That's my situation)

I'm on DAY 3....of IRS site saying the site is having technical difficulties each time after I quickly submit my info. Still haven't been lucky enough to reach the finish line LOL. I tried to sign in at 3am today and it said I have to wait 24 hours to sign in again because I've passed the number of attempts. LOLL. They say not to call them on the site but if this persists, I may start trying.

I'm prob not gonna get one bc I haven't filed my 2018 & 19 yet bc I prob won't have the money to pay the back taxes I owe by July. Prob not even worth it for me at this point. I was gonna use it towards dental work & a place after all this is over with. I can't decide what to do ugh :(

I feel this. Why am I going to give up money that i might not (or might) have when we have no jobs and no unemployment $$? I filed thru non-filers https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here but no answer back. the 1200 isnt free money anyway. if anything i'll just use it to pay my 2020 taxes. i think theres also a chance they could mail it to u . I cant decide either what to do.

I did get a 1099, so maybe thats why this is happening? I should just go ahead and file it. I was honestly trying to wait til UI kicks in. But a) it might be better to just do it now b) i already did this non filers thing so IDK....im gonna wait another 5 days and see what happens

I think non filers is not for 1099s. Try the other link for filing. And yes since I'm unable to work like I need to rn I'm prob not even gonna try to get it. My income is shaky rn & I need to worry about food & my health than a 1200 that I may or not get.

That stupid message is what they put as a generic error message. It comes up when the system gets overloaded with requests or is otherwise broken on their end in addition there being actual issues with your check.

Mine and my SO's (who is a W-2 paycheck-d employee) info have both been spitting out that message. Don't read too much into it.

It seems pretty cut and dry as far as if/how you get a check, it's just a matter of when you'll get it. If you have given them your bank info for stuff pertaining to your 2018 or 2019 taxes, it should get direct deposited at some point. They would have your bank info if you got a refund or possibly if you have a monthly withdrawal for a payment plan set up. If you filed taxes and don't have banking info with them, it's probably getting mailed and may take months. If you haven't filed period, you need to file.
A 1099 wouldn't give them the whole picture of your taxes anyway - you could have made much more that you still need to report - so it would make sense they aren't looking at those to determine checks.

I still haven't received my stimulus payment and now I am kind of creeped out that the IRS system only recognizes my SSN under my Maryland address. I've never filed using the Maryland address. :/ But also it said my payment was scheduled for the fifteenth. I'm guessing they had my old checking account number and eventually I'll get a paper check.

That's been happening, payments going to the wrong place from outdated bank account info. Is there a way to have the bank check if that account number got a deposit? What if that person who now has that account number (they reassign them eventually right?) just keeps it?

I'm getting that infuriating message too. I read on Reddit that lots of people are getting it, and some who got it have since gotten their deposit. I also read that direct deposits are being sent the next 3 Wednesdays, the 15th, the 22nd and the 29th and if you are not in those batches a check will be sent. (not sure if that is true but this person seemed to have some inside information). I also have read if you do not get a deposit don't expect any money until late August or September.

I'm not filing 2019 until I have to because I owe money, but I did file 2018 on time. I didn't get a refund because all my income is 1099 so I owed money. They have my bank account info because I make my tax payments with it but I've also read that an ACH withdrawal is not the same info they need for an ACH deposit. Sounds stupid to me but it must be true because I've received nothing.

I could really use that money but I've done all I can so I'm going to forget about it for now, maybe check that site again every few days until the end of the month, then give up on that money for the meantime and focus on working as much as I can stand.

Did you file ur taxes with 1099?
It still shows me this not available bulshit. I don’t know if I should worry and take some action or just wait? I filed 1040/1099 for 2018 and paid with my credit card, so I guess I only can expect a check

Your situation is very similar to mine. I filed 1040/1099 for 2018, and 1040 for 2019. IRS didn't allow me to update my bank info, therefore they are just going to mail the check to me.

I got $1200 direct deposited on the 15th. I've had exclusively 1099 income for several years.

I filed my 2019 taxes on April 6th and owed money which I sent from a savings account with Ally Bank.

I got a refund for 2018 thanks to the new pass-through business tax laws, and the refund was sent to the same account I paid my 2019 taxes with.

I've heard from some people that if you haven't gotten a refund in the last two years, you won't get the instant direct deposit, but I don't see why it would matter as long as you paid your taxes through a bank account (and not with a card), as they would have your account/routing information.

(Edit: I see laurielegs commented on this a few posts above -- that is so weird that ACH Deposit and Withdrawal are treated differently in this case. That sucks if that's true.)

I didn’t file 2019 yet, and didn’t have any refund from 2018. And my status still not available. Did you receive any refunds for 2018? I start to have all those crazy thoughts / possibilities why I can be excluded. Like maybe they forgot about me cuz I didn’t get refund or cuz I didn’t file it myself. Idk. Did you file it for ur self?
I found this article, which basically saying that if you used HR block or some other third company it also might cause a delay

From what I can gather, anyone who doesn't have a job as an employee and pays their taxes manually (all independent contractors like webcam models and business owners, anyone who gets a 1099 instead of a w2) will probably get a paper check.

The IRS have said in a couple articles they will only use bank info if you have gotten a deposit in the last 2 years. ACH withdrawals from your bank for tax payments dont count, so even if you file 2019 tax it won't help unless you are getting a deposit for a refund.

I tried the get your payment tool to add my direct deposit info and it just says they can't find me so I'm guessing either it's broken or they are planning to only do checks for those who got 1099s or ended up owing tax. Checks will take months for some people, as late as September for some. I'm not counting on getting a dime till then.

Edited to add, found this in comments on an article (not sure if this has been verified):

"Americans with the lowest income will get mailed checks first, according to reporting by the Washington Post. Here’s the timetable for the first checks, per IRS documents seen by the Post:

Taxpayers with income up to $10,000: April 24

Taxpayers with income up to $20,000: May 1

Taxpayers with income up to $40,000: May 15

The rest of the checks will be issued by gradually increasing income increments each week. Households earning $198,000 who file jointly will get their reduced checks on Sept. 4. The last group of checks will be sent on Sept. 11 to those who didn’t have tax information on file and had to apply for checks, according to the Washington Post."[/B]

Yup, very incorrect, I got mine on the 15th and according to this chart shouldnt be getting it til mid summer.

Okay, I did some checking and found its half true:
Those who filed in 2018/2019 with direct deposit information got thiers sent out first.

After that, paper checks are mailed out in the order of income lowest to highest and finally on Sept 11, they start processing checks for anyone they didnt have contact information for (not sure how that works, I guess the people who later entered their information into the website?)
