I'm starting to think the brutality is happening to everybody to justify what they were doing before the protests.

Protests are STILL going on

But yo BE CAREFUL out here.

At some of the protests law enforcement have been instructed to obscure their identities (ex you won’t see their names in their uniform badges) https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/06/04/us/politics/unidentified-police-protests.amp.html

The incident of the elderly man who was violently shoved by law enforcement was caught on film by reporter who was quickly forced to leave/stop recording. Social media posted the officers picture and tech savvy people were able to zoom in and clearly decipher his name from his uniform. The Buffalo PD tried to cover it up saying the guy just tripped but the film evidence was clear. The pressures to hold rogue officers accountable is causing a shift. The officer was punished and as a result 57 of his colleagues all resigned from the team assigned to riots. https://apple.news/AyXqVA5DPQsqXzWrasYIBQA

I mentioned before how some law enforcement abuse their power and they simply won’t be changing anytime soon. Rather than reform their practices the rogue law enforcement/politicians would rather cover up, hide their identities, etc so it will be hard if not impossible to report their crimes.

Not only can risk of sickness injury or death occur from attending protests where rogue law enforcement will have a heavy presence but also legal ramifications plus Big Brother is tracking.

Keep ya phones on record.

Was one of the two Buffalo officers charged the guy who wanted to stop? There's one officer who shoved him with his hand and the other put his baton up slightly. To me he looked dazed and scared. He tried to bend down but was told to keep going. Has he been charged? Or was it the officer who started barking orders to keep going?

I just watched the video again and read a report. He was charged. I think the one who ordered them to keep marching should be called out in some way as well.

^i find it interesting the entire tactical force resigned to support the two officers who violently shoved that old man. This is their idea of “dominating” the streets

The dude was elderly and appeared to pose no threat. Besides walking Up near the officers.

Oh well good riddens!

Throw the whole tactical team away and find some officers who are capable of making decisions of when to use force and the amount of force. Plus when to render aid (especially when THEY inflict injury)

I just think if this were an accident, why do they take so long to get medical assist? And why did they try to cover it up and say “he just lost his balance and fell”?

Protests STILL going on

And sadly innocent lives are taken. I don’t think this is related to protests however the good officers may come under fire as a result of unstable criminals not giving two fucks about lives of law enforcement or anyone who reports/witnesses/enforces their criminal activity

Apparently a state patrol officer investigating a deranged criminal was met with gun/explosiveS and died as a result. Sad he had a kid on the way. I think his partner was injured too. https://www.sfchronicle.com/crime/article/Multiple-critical-incidents-in-Santa-Cruz-15322408.php

Yes, even in the sleepy (somewhat) burb. I'm in, there was a motorcycle shop was looted..

We've had some mostly peaceful protests, one of the nicer burbs had rioting /looting.

I'm supportive of peaceful protests, but agree it should be dialed down now, look toward the future. & making needed changes.

On another note, I'm really unhappy I can't get my diatomaceous earth because of interstate blocks?

Well I take back my previous statement about my city’s protests. It has turned into a very complex situation with a whole lot of local politics involved. It also became clear that the police don’t view themselves as those keeping the peace in this situation but rather in an active fight with protesters. The ACLU has sued the city for police techniques, there are calls from all sides for the mayor to resign, and a city council member allowed the protesters into city hall. I am hopeful this will all result in actual change.

The protests are pretty much over here in NE Florida. I hate to sound cynical, but a lot of the protest activity started dying down in FL right around the time that our state opened its bars and movie theaters back up and more jobs of all types came back online. Other state governors might draw a lesson from that and give their people something to do besides march down the street all day.

Alright, after getting reports I cleaned up the thread rather than closing it or deleting it. I deleted posts from many various positions, including many I agreed with. I deleted posts from one of my very best friends. I even deleted a post from a moderator, though they are NOT moderator for the Lounge.

I'm hoping we can keep this open.

I haven't had my coffee yet so was not as patient as I'd have liked, and opted for speed rather than sensitivity, but according to the rules I'm probably just supposed to delete the whole thing lol. Not because of the subject, per se, but because of the bickering.

I don't fault the moderator for deleting the posts given the current climate in America. I am saddened though. America used to be a place where you could discuss both sides of an issue. You might still disagree after hearing the other side's arguments, but at least a healthy debate could be held. Today's America is like an 8 year old covering his ears with his hands and shouting "la-la-la I can't hear you", when something he doesn't want to hear is said. With that said, I'll leave this post to its own devices.

I’m actually surprised they’re STILL protesting.

Right now ATL is live with protests.

I really hope people can keep the violence minimized or eliminated so innocent people don’t get harmed.

Yes, some of us are still protesting, and I will continue to do so while I have all this free time with my job shutdown (and the bus service I rely on to get to/from work is still shut down). I just attended my 6th one on July 4th. I wish people wouldn't lump peaceful protesters into a category with the violent folks who wish to start shit/riot...not that I think that's what you intended in your post. Every protest I've participated in was peaceful, and besides the four punk asses who stood on the top level of a parking garage yelling racial slurs at a woman and her daughter, there were no problems. Just the occasional Trumpster driving by and giving us the finger, yelling "GO HOME!", or yelling "ALL lives matter!" *eye roll*

I've read they had a prior issue. They definitely worked in the same club, though in different areas, and that means they knew each other, at the very least. In some clubs, it's easy to get into it with other guys that work there--I've had it happen several times, where I was ready to go at it with motherfuckers. ;D

This is a singular time in the history of the USA. The civil unrest is rivaling or perhaps exceeding the tumult of the late 60s/early 70s. One important difference being that the 60s movement was largely youth oriented. Right now, people from diverse age groups and backgrounds are out there.

While the government ignores cities' pleas for federal assistance in controlling gun violence, it seems eager to deploy troops to more and more cities to "disarm" and destroy largely peaceful demonstrators standing up for the liberties we are entitled to by our Constitution. It may be coming to our own cities and towns soon. Viva la Resistance.

you realize that many are protesting because there will be no murder trials? I can't name one cop who's actually got life in prison for murdering black person. And Breonna Taylor still has no justice. Many are justifying her brutal murder because her boyfriend shot one (1) warning shot to the floor. Basically saying black people don't have the right to protect themselves in their own homes or shouldve gone to question the people he thought were breaking into their house at night. sick.
