Couple drops of that, and the smell will either be unbearable they’ll have to clean it… or they might be foul enough to ignore it.

She goes to the fucking store every week & stays gone for hours & comes back with tons of sweets everytime so ya I don't feel bad for not sharing my stuff.SHe's such a glutonist.

Our kitchen is dirty like this too. I'm thinking about getting my own microwave and fridge and sticking them in my room with me because I have a large room.

Would you be able to do that? At least you wouldn't have to venture into the kitchen as much.

Having a roommate is the worst thing ever.

I think it depends. Starting off in adult life, I leaned on my first two roommates quite a bit, and we’re still friends (sometimes… I’m still just a little fucked off about the one being on his absolute best behavior meeting my friend from the community while my introduction to him was a bit… insane). The second set of roommates were alright. I get to pick who lives with me now that I have a house, and I like it that way. I think it’s better that I not be solitary. I guess I kinda need people around. Two of them in particular… they were both abandoned by their families… require a fair bit of emotional labor. But so do I.

Ok, microwave aren't really meant tb used in rooms, really.
I know one of the guys has one, he's rarely home.
It can over load the circuits, (the box just happens tb in my room).::)
I do have a mini fridge, (we all do). Those I believe, are ok.
Going by what our maintenance guy has said.

Believe me, I do my best to stay out of the kitchen.

The ideal thing would be to get out of here.
Thanks though. :)

This's a whole different ballgame..
You're the landlord or you get to pick, completely different.

The situation discussed here is one that is foisted on someone.. landlord doesn't GAF.
Now I gotta send him an email w/pics..being dirty is one thing, being at risk for being in fucking fire, or slip & fall from water being all over the floor is another.
I already have arthritis, & permanent damage from whiplash.

He's probably not going to do anything, the closing's in what, a week?

Welp, I'm laying backwards on my bed because I've been kicked off my spot due to my neediest roommate of them all...my dog. I'm too lazy to haul his dog bed back to my room.

My 105lb dog snores loud in his sleep every night to the point I wake him up to stop and the 52lb one growls loud in his sleep while running in place. It makes me think "I'm running a zoo over here full of crazy animals LOL"

You're the landlord

Well, that depends on perspective. Rather than a landlord, S once said I’m “sorta like the prison mom”, so I asked if she felt incarcerated, but she said no, it wasn’t like that, then I asked how the hell she even knew about that, and that led to me watching the first season of Orange Is the New Black because I wasn’t getting the references she was making.

So, yeah… landlord and ‘prison mom’.

It can be but sometimes a budget you need to stick to requires it so tips / tricks can be helpful.

My best room mate tip is to find a roomie with schedule opposite of yours. You have evening hours ? Get a roomie who works in the day and is out of the house when you are there.

When I'm the house " Alpha " which I usually am I won't allow any work from home types of people.

I'm getting SUCH a good deal to live for $500 flat a month I am kind of wondering about just renting a two bedroom so I can select a room mate who is gone M - F 9-5. My house mates are great but I am NEVER home alone ( we are talking like 4 hours total in 7 weeks ). One of them is always here .

It actually bothers me tremendously at times to pay rent at all .

The math on the home that I own ( this is North location ) if anyone is curious.

I pay a mortgage of $850 for a 4 bedroom place.
So with utilities it's 1k FLAT a month and it's a good size.
One room mate paying $500 gets half of the costs fully covered.
Two room mates makes my living free !
So at times I get tempted by my old location because of these numbers.
^ In this home the max I'd do is two room mates just because the house is just too full otherwise .
I guess in a financial pinch I could have three there and profit $400-$500 a month from it.

What I did with it was just put a renter in there for now but at times it does tempt me. If my renters leave in 2-3 months for example I'll be tempted again.
It wasn't a great deal month by month when I first got it but now ( 12 years later ) living there myself is a GREAT DEAL.

Another hack ( for those who are owners or house Alphas ) are to just throw a bed / dresser in a room and rent it month to month. You can rent a touch higher for furnished and month to month unless your personality doesn't like that kind of arrangement obviously!

I find these people to be great usually ( often people new to the area or working a lot ).

When I do end up renting a room in a spot asfter the pandemic ends I'll def be looking for more folks that are gone most of the time. I end up being the alpha one in someone else's home at times LOL I'm like ya I need to work are you leaving? haha I'm such a brat. I find it funny though bc I usually lie about my occupation & the amount of time I'm home. Whatever, if ppl srsly wanna live alone then they need not have roommates IMO (ppl renting out their home & having to share it).

I need my space which is why it really doesn't make much sense in theory to rent a room in a house unless its just one othr person living there.

For me I do about 20 hours a week at home and 20 I'm outside the house .

I think if one person works at home it's SO helpful to have a house mate ( or even spouse ) who does 40 hours outside the house.

Like .... if my one house mate ( the woman ) worked outside the home more my room mate situation would be PERFECT .

I have had a rare few hours here alone today and it's been so nice.

Well, last night the 2 biggest slobs were talking house ownership & being a landlord?? ::) Riiight, lol.

The one guy said the landlord won't care about the blacked, burnt countertop edge, uh, he hasn't seen it yet
The other genius put a huge, restaurant size pot on the stove, glad we didn't have a fire!

Also, the sale fell thru, those guys backed out, after all their 'visits' + pic taking
I thought the one guy was BS anyway.

Landlord wasn't too pleased, I asked him to hold my check, for a couple days, the other guy's waiting on some assistance, & another is not working much.

Sorry, pal, it's been rough, not that you would know/care/understand

I’m having a really good roommate experience right now! I’m renting from a woman in her 40s who owns the home she grew up in. She rents 2 rooms out to traveling healthcare workers. There was one other tenant here who was noisy early in the morning/messing up my sleep, but she moved out. Landlord is letting me move into the larger upstairs bedroom that the previous roomie lived in so my dog will be more comfortable.

We might have another person coming soon to fill my old room and he’s a travel PT! It would be kinda neat having another PT here to talk to. I hope he does decide to take the room. One guy to two women sounds like a good healthy ratio too.

Those early morning knocks on the bedroom door are it when you're still sleeping. I felt like "who is fucking dead in the house for me to be woken up at 5am after coming home late from work?" All over the electricity going out over a hair dryer.

One of my roommates is home right now drunk as crap while her guy is singing because she's blasting latin music with her "fuck-boy".
