At least a dozen of President Donald Trump's supporters are expected to be charged in connection with the invasion of the U.S. Capitol as Congress certified Joe Biden's election win.

Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said federal prosecutors had been working overnight to identify suspects involved in storming the Capitol after a Trump rally outside the White House, and some individuals could be charged as soon as Thursday, reported ABC News.

I don't know if this is the time to resign. Only like 14 days left in this idiot's term? Somebody has to keep control. Or this shit'll happen again.

I think this is time to mobilize the Military for the next two weeks.

None of that makes any sense to me. He is not mentally fit to be president. This is exactly why they should use the 25th. He can do a lot in 14 days, we need to function as a democracy and not allow military power especially in a transition. The national guard responds directly to the president, which is why he resisted sending them.

Also the Capitol police do not need more funding, they are perfectly capable of being threatening and arresting trespassers when they do not agree with their actions to the point of taking selfies with the terrorists

The extremists did not burn an entire city.

They burned the building of the police officer who murdered an unarmed Black man. And the building was evacuated before anyone was harmed.

Is setting fires right. No.

Is murdering innocent Black people right. No.

That incident was in response to wrongful deaths occurring at the hands of rogue law enforcement. These people are rioting because of their entitlement over a damn election.

Comparison is apples to oranges.

And besides - Two wrongs do not make a right.

Also, most of the violent people that show up to BLM events are not true BLM folks. They are anarchists, thugs, criminals and even anti-BLM people that show up to exploit BLM events, e.g., to incite riots, loot stores and to discredit BLM. When you look at the leaders of the BLM movement, they are peaceful people. Compare them to the alt right people that show up to Trump rallies.

Ok, here's what Im having trouble with:

1. shouldn't this landmark day/event have been planned for potential trouble, such as ramping up the cops, etc.?
I mean, as a country, we've had a huge history this past year of riots, looting, big public violence.

2. I say the whole thing smells of a set up, see above statement.

Reminds me somewhat of the rein of terror, France 1792.

According to Policemag poll of nearly 4000 of their subscribers, 84% of them supported Trump in 2016. Too early for 2020 numbers but I doubt they would differ that much.

This day is all ceremonial, Joe Biden was going to be our president without this. They also did it after it started which is all you technically need if you are an originalist. Trump shouldn’t have been allowed to hold a rally and then incite a riot

Part of me would've liked to show up in a cow costume after hearing someone was dressed up as a viking and I don't even vote. LOL. Halloween came early for that guy.

A West Virginia legislator who recorded and then deleted a video of himself storming the U.S. Capitol with hundreds of rioters is under mounting pressure to resign.
Nearly 32,000 people signed a Change.org petition demanding that the man, Republican Del. Derrick Evans, step down.

Agree w/ COB, & also my roomie: everyone of em that broke in there, should have been shot. Sorry.

I implied that they could have, but I disagree that they should have done that. You still have people whipped into frenzy over Waco and Ruby Ridge, and something like that - especially in polarized times such as they are right now - would light a fuse on a serious powder keg. This is not a time you want to create martyrs.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that if he gets impeached, he can never run again for President. Not so sure about the 25th Amendment, maybe someone else knows. Also, I'm not too sure about a self pardon.

Impeachment is a long process, will take way more than 13 days, but they can carry it far past when he leaves office. Keeps him from running again in 2024.

Food for thought.

kamiliam

You can run again under the 25th amendment. You can also run for president again if impeached, if convicted Congress determines whether that is designated. We um never really get to that part

This guy's gonna get Impeached for a second time, they are already talking about it, has that ever even happened before? Twice in four years! Pretty silly when there's only 12 days left in his Administration. Though he can do a lot of damage in 12 days, but he'll still be President till the 20th... They can't just dump this guy tomorrow.

Well yeah. But Millennials are already faced an economic depression and suffered from prolonged neoliberal policies that their parents kept voting for from the U.S. viewpoint.

The thing is, Millennials and the younger generations around the world are tired of the corrupt political system and are forcing changes around the world.

also pundits are not necessarily educated, they are entertainment

In 1862, a federal judge named West Hughes Humphreys was impeached by the House. When it came time for the Senate to pronounce judgement, the body determined that the decisions of whether to remove and whether to disqualify were separable (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/GPO-HPREC-HINDS-V3/pdf/GPO-HPREC-HINDS-V3.pdf). The Senate first voted by two-thirds majority to convict and remove Humphreys, and then took a second vote, under a simple majority requirement, to disqualify him from future federal office.

REALLY ? Now would you please let us know just exactly how much violence and mayhem IS acceptable ? How much looting ? Is it OK to loot white owned businesses but if they are owned by blacks or Latinos that is going too far ? If so, a LOT of BLM "protesters" and Anti-Fa "Freedom Fighters" did not get the memo.
Just exactly how much violence against police is acceptable ? Home invasions of the privileged excusable ?

Where could the Trumpies have possibly gotten the idea that their anarchistic behavior was acceptable or could be condoned ?

I have been very consistent - ALL violence and law breaking is wrong. BLM ; Anti-Fa ; MAGA ; I don't care who does it or why ?

Eric Stoner
01-08-2021, 08:56 AM
Victoms of abuse reacting to years of oppression is not the same as people who have been in power inciting violence to maintain power.

Similarly, a women shooting her husband after years of domestic violence is reacting to abuse not the perpetrator.

Anyways, the riots are crazy. Who knew this would happen? (Please note sarcasm.) I rarely watch the news, so I was caught off guard when it popped up on my news feed.

Yes it is ! Some of you folks who condone BLM and Anti-Fa and their ilk amaze me. You seriously do not see how the tables can be easily turned ? How this kind of violence can be used to justify additional repression ? Taken a good look at Hong Kong lately ? Reviewed your American History and read what the FBI and other police organizations did in the 60's and 70's ?

Now you and the Dems are all clutching your pearls and wringing your hands over an inexcusable riot. Where were you over the summer when BLM and Anti-Fa were running rampant ? Been to Portland lately ?

Protests and demonstrations are fine. The First Amendment guarantees the right to PEACEABLY assemble. Not to riot and loot. Regardless of who is doing it or what their supposed grievances are .

Eric Stoner
01-08-2021, 08:58 AM
It wasn't BLM that set fire to anything, it was rioters and looters using the gatherings of peaceful BLM protesters for their own ends. But the BLM protesters could have justified burning cities because they were protesting an inequality of how laws are enforced when a person is black and that is real matter. The Trump supporters were stirred up to a frenzy by Trump for two months over a false voter fraud claim.

You know it's a false voter fraud claim and you're defending the Trump supporters actions. Is that really who you are?

More bullshit. READ BLM's own stuff. They are Marxist revolutionaries. Any tactic is fine with them so long as it leads to power.

I think what fucked up by the whole debacle was the lack of security at the capitol.

Government knew those groups of people would show up (and would be acting like unhinged madmen - Remember how crazed they were protesting the mask orders) and only a handful of police officers were present.

It wasn’t till several HOURS later (AFTER the damage already done) that National Guards deployed

Trumps bitch ass quick to deploy NG for states well in advance of BLM but it took fucking Mike Pence to call them to the capitol cause Trump is somewhere in the cut orgasming off the chaos he created.

Here we agree. The Capitol Police were outnumbered. Their Chief resigned because inter alia he turned down offers of additional help before the riot.

To be clear, I hold Trump responsible for this. He appeared at a rally with his useful idiot Giuliani and LIED to these people. He LOST the election. The few proven irregularities ; a few corpses voting here ; a few unregistered voters there ; etc. etc. NONE of it changes the documented and CERTIFIED results . Trump hates to lose BUT he refuses to accept that defeat is a part of politics .So many more people showed up for his rallies than for Biden's and he can't understand how he lost. Duh ! Because more people voted for the dotard than for him.

Even though Impeachment is a clumsy tool that really doesn't fit and the 25th Amendment is totally inapplicable, I do wish Trump would just pack up and go. NOW ! Don't wait for the 20th. Just get out. Let Pence turn over the keys and host the Bidens for coffee. Trump has just said he won't attend the Inauguration. GOOD ! I can't imagine Biden would want him there.

Trump's statements on Wednesday were pathetic and his statement yesterday was too little too late.

The worst part is I think he is going to stay involved in politics. I hope and pray the Republicans throw him overboard.

Worst of all , his pathetic meddling in Georgia probably cost the Republicans the Senate.

Because they have to dumb it down for the median American. People use "impeach" and "impeached and convicted in the Senate" synonymously when there's a distinction. And if convicted, they may choose to hold another vote about disqualifying them from holding federal office again. From Article I, Section 3, Clause 7 of the Constitution:

"Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States: but the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law."

When have I ever advocated , excused or condoned violence ? Never. Not once. In the last four years we have seen a lot more organized political violence from the left than from the right. Almost all right wing political events started out as and stayed peaceful. ALL of Trump's rallies were peaceful. At the last one he told them to go to the Capitol PEACEFULLY. Even though doing so had no legitimate or useful objective. When the violence broke out his statement was pathetically lukewarm. Instead of trying to enlist them to go on to the next fight, Trump continued with the LIE that the election was stolen . His statements , Lin Wood's and Sidney Powell's told Georgia voters their votes wouldn't count. Enough of them stayed home to flip the Senate.

Trump is a polarizing figure and his positions engender genuine hatred for him and his supporters. Reagan knew how to turn such animus aside and not let it get to him. So did Bill Clinton for the most part. Hillary and Trump never even tried. More's the pity.

Yes, because they weren't there. Trump threw a fit on stage and they all ran to the Capitol Building and tore the place up. Damned right it's Unconfirmed, that's because it didn't happen. Antifa didn't have time.

There is no evidence that the people rioting and looting were associated with BLM. Here's their website:

Please show me where on their website they're advocating Marxist revolution. I don't seem to be able to find it. The protests against racism and the killing of unarmed blacks by police were overwhelmingly peaceful.

In some cases, white supremacists infiltrated BLM protests to instigate violence.

I have READ their stuff. I have read the bios of their founders. They are admitted and committed MARXISTS .

How did so called white supremacists instigate looting and arson ? How many have been arrested ? Indicted ? Convicted ?

News reports are NOT proof of anything. Especially given how often the media gets it WRONG !

You are correct that most protesters were peaceful and law abiding. The problem is that the looting and violence was not condemned by those who remained peaceful and law abiding. It was excused by Dems and the media. Look at what Chris Cuomo and AOC said about the RIOTERS . Not the protesters. The rioters and the looters.

Ironically there was far more legitimacy to the BLM protests than the Trump-Maga D.C. rally. In its simplest terms the Trumpies were protesting the legitimate results of a legitimate election. I don't know what they thought they would or could accomplish by demonstrating in the first place. Their attack on the Capitol succeeded in wiping out Trump's last Congressional support and permanently damaging his legacy and the cause of America First.

Nixon publicly said he conceded to JFK in 1960 for the sake of the country. Maybe , but I think the REAL reason he did it was to preserve his political viability. He was only 47 at the time. Gore fought IN THE COURTS until the SCOTUS ruled as they did and then he gracefully conceded. Even Hillary conceded. Afaic Trump smeared himself with his own feces by not following several historical examples of proper behavior after his legal challenges all failed.
