So by starting this thread which if I read the OP correctly, was saying that she has a shopping addiction and has posted here to keep track of it and be accountable for what she buys that perhaps she thinks she shouldn't be buying?
It seems that what's happened is a thread FULL of people posting links to products, waving more temptation in her face. I'm not entirely sure whether the OP feels she has a problem or not and that's not for me to say, that's personal to her. But if she was struggling to give up smoking, would you all be posting links of cigarettes or telling her how great they are? Of course not! Why would this be any different? An addiction, by definition, is a problem - something that causes issues. I don't understand this thread at all.

Awww you guys, this thread is just for fun, lol. I think it's being used appropriately, absolutely! Though it's sweet of you to look out, fetishqueen. I don't have a real addiction, hehe. Like i said, good job and no debt, also huge 401k, etc. I just love buying stuff and could probably cut back on my spending a bit.
It's fun for me to see what others are resisting purchasing! Indiegirl, i think you're using the thread perfectly, lol!

^I can empathize. I’ve never had jewelry… it was completely anathema to the way of life I was raised in. And maybe the ‘forbidden fruit’ aspect of it is what made it appeal to me. So I do look at jewelry when I come across it, look at the jewelers in the mall, etc. I could buy some, but it would feel wrong to, especially given the plights of others who are close to me.
I should say I’ve never had jewelry except for earrings, but I keep those simple. I have three piercings in each ear - two on the lobe and one on the helix, which that last one, I got when my sister and my friend from the community had their ears pierced for the first time to show them it wasn’t so bad.

Yeah! I'm not a jewelry person at all, but for some reason I've been wanting a simple, right-hand ring lately.

In principle, I most definitely am. I love jewelry. I want it. Don’t know how often I’d actually wear it (especially with the work that I do), but I absolutely adore it.
People tell me I’m “not wired correctly” because I don’t have jewelry, I don’t have multitudes of shoes, I don’t go out of my way to dress sexy, my makeup collection is a bit slim compared to others I know, etc. They fail to realize that no, I absolutely do want these things. I just don’t act on it. Maybe I’m not as materialistic as others, but it isn’t to say that I’m not at all.
But that’s one particular piece of jewelry I really don’t see in my future. I’m not sure where I stand on whether I want it or not. I just don’t want to drag someone else down with me.

I finally found hand weights the other day after months of searching. I wanted to buy both the sets of 10lb ones and 15lb ones, but I only bought the 15s. I originally had the 10s in my cart, but put them back, because I don't really need them.

There's only one piece of jewelry I have anxiety over....long earrings. I recall this girl getting a guys jacket part or something of the sort accidentally stuck on her earring and having it rip through her entire ear when she was trying to leave. YIKES. I will never forget it.

This sounds lame but back when I loved a guy I got this nice ring on my right hand to make him think about marriage. Cutest ring I still wear from time to time. We obviously discussed it and both were wanting to do so. Cut to the future where I broke up with him. Lol! Sometimes when you see the red signs it’s time to run!

Per the thread rules, i have to confess...i bought a Costco ring. Found a 2 ctw ring with a platinum band for $600 off their normal price. A quick internet search shows that a similar ring from a normal retailer would be at least twice the price. I'm excited! It's timeless, will go with everything, and I've never worn a ring before. But also, this means I've been bad. >:-D

Lol! I know everyone has different tastes, so i was hesitant to post a link! I'm really into the more low-key look. And i didn't want it to look like an engagement ring. So, solitaire style was definitely not happening for all of those reasons! This looks like something i could wear every day - works for both casual and dressy occasions.

I love how the blingiest thing ever is your version of 'low key,' now I want to see an example of what you consider to be high key LOL. I think I see what you mean though, how rather than some big rock it's a band of small ones and it is something you can wear with just about anything. I am not huge on diamonds because I love colored jewels(unless it's like a huge flawless diamond because those shoot rainbows) but I do love diamonds when it's a bunch of them fit closely together like on your ring or like pavé diamonds because they sparkle so much like that and again shoot rainbows. I saw this Faberge tiara in person and omg the way it shimmered and shot rainbows.........photos do it NO justice whatsoever:

ETA I think the ring will look even better in person TBH.

Lol!! True, true. And yes, i totally imagine you with colorful jewels...large ones! The tiara is gorgeous!!
I tend to dress in very subdued colors - lots of black, dark green, etc. So i think something bling-y but not huge will help step up my look without looking like costume jewelry.

02-06-2021, 03:06 PM
^^^Exactly, there is nothing costumey about that ring. It is blingy but it's very polished-looking and classic, I think it would look especially nice with a black outfit. Speaking of didn't buy....I love this ring but 7k is a little out of my budget LOL so definitely not buying, and I think it's an engagement ring:

^gorgeous!!! Wouldn't go with my personal style, but looks beautiful on the model, and i could definitely picture you rocking that. Rings like that would make me feel insecure, because they're so understated that i almost feel like you'd need to stack it with other rings. But i think the reason I'm thinking that way is because i have bigger hands - smaller hands can probably rock those thinner rings. Beautiful color!

^^^Unless I’m wearing all my serpent rings(I have a bunch of silver snake rings that I like to wear at the same time) my ring look is pretty much always just one solitaire jewel. It does look ‘engagey’ like you said but I don’t mind. Speaking of big hands lol, I can’t remember which movie it was for(I don’t think it was Gone with the Wind) but I remember reading that in one of her films they kept designing outfits for Vivien Leigh with gloves to hide her ‘big hands’ LOL. At least you’re in good company.
My favorite ring look that I do whenever I can is to match my nail polish exactly to the jewel or jewels that are in a ring. I got it from this Beyonce look that I saw her do years ago that I fell in love with and I always get compliments when I do it:

Woah, those are cool!! I love how you mix high and low, if that makes sense. This brand is also opal obsessed, but i don't think they're your vibe. They have some more unusual pieces: https://wwake.com/collections/view-all/products/three-step-balloon-ring

I LOVE those tiny delicate ones, I have been seeing that style a lot the last few years. I especially like earrings like that, especially when they’re in the non-traditional piercing spots like this:

And also speaking of didn’t buy, I have been wanting to get the gold version of this snake placed in the same spot for like 2 years but I’ve never gotten around to it:

Apparently it’s a long process to get the actual piece of jewelry and the piercing shop has to order it or whatever.... Just seems like a pain so I’ve kept putting it off.

Maybe your self discipline waned, but I wouldn’t necessarily say you’ve been bad. People deserve to be able to treat themselves from time to time. Well, maybe not all. Definitely not me. But it’s not a bad thing to do something for yourself every now and then. Of course it should be done responsibly, but it would always irritate me when I’d hear well-to-do people complain that someone on a fixed income made sacrifices elsewhere to save up to get something nice for themselves. So, is it so bad?

I buy clothing, I buy accessories, I buy makeup. It’s not that I don’t have these things. But most weeks, I work six days, and I’m not an office girl. So it’s pointless for me to really go all out on makeup, clothing, jewelry, etc. Maybe one day I’ll give myself time to relax, but it won’t be today. Someone told me earlier today I have no chill, and maybe they’re right. I hate not doing something.

Proud of myself for this one; I didn't buy a ton of panties. Lol. I wanted some sunglasses from Urban Outfitters online and they were only $16, so since you get free shipping on orders over $50 I was looking around to see if there's anything else I wanted while I was there and since I've been needing new panties I thought I could just buy some on there till I hit $50, but I did the math and of course they had it mathematically worked out to where the total would hit $49....so I would end up spending almost $60 to save that $5 on shipping. Fuck them, that's just rude. So I just got the sunglasses and paid the $5 for shipping. I only wear solid-colored thongs with zero details or embellishments and I can get those for cheap everywhere.
ETA WAIT I have more. I was gonna buy grey sweatpants for an outfit I had in mind and at the last minute I realized one of my black pairs would work for it so I didn't get them. And then: my place is small so I use a space heater because it does the job and using my propane-fed heater uses up my propane really fast, the last few days I noticed it was louder all of the sudden and today I realized its heat output was significantly lower. I figured it was dying so I ordered a new one on Amazon. Then on a whim I decided to start cleaning the dust out of it to see if it would help and there was a lot more in there than I thought, I cleaned it all out and now it's running perfectly again so I cancelled the new space heater order.

^ Have totally been there, re: loading cart with more stuff to avoid paying shipping costs. Sometimes i get tunnel vision, like OKAY IF I JUST BUY $20 OF MORE CRAP, I WON'T HAVE TO PAY THE $4 SHIPPING FEE, and then suddenly i have like five extra things in my cart, and I'm like wtf am i doing? I usually snap out of it, but the tunnel vision can be intense haha. Usually, but not always, you can find some kind of coupon code to get either free shipping or a discount (try abandoning cart for a couple of days after entering your email into the checkout process).

^^I do actually do that a lot to get codes and always tell people to do it, but this time I was impatient and what I wanted was cheap so I pulled the trigger. :tired: Now I just hope the sunglasses don't make me look like an insect....they're not big but I have a really skinny head so it happens. Sunglasses can be really hard to figure out if they'll look ok on you over the internet. Btw random fact....I have never returned anything I bought online. Even if it ends up not fitting or not looking good I always keep it. Returning just seems like a hassle. Except for one time when Amazon sent me someone else's stuff and it was like a blood pressure monitor and stuff, I called them and told them and they sent someone to come pick it up so that was easy.

I’d want a new cat tree, except my cat is at that age where she wouldn’t care much for it. She just wants attention constantly.
Maybe I need to take some time where I can unwind, dress up a little… I’m not worried about feeling pretty or attractive. I already get enough feedback in that regard. But to actually feel a little elegant, I think might be a good idea.
I couldn’t ever see myself living that as a way of life, though. My friends, they’d love the life of leisure, but they never really existed outside of a certain box to begin with, whereas I pretty much clawed my way out of one and it’s too late to turn back now. And it’s taken me to strange places and introduced strange conflicts and left me feeling like I’m more of a third wheel when I’m out and about with others rather than someone who actually has a place among them. And I wish it wasn’t that way, but I’m not ashamed of what led me here, either. So it’s conflicting. I want to fit in better with them, but I’ll never be like them and don’t necessarily want to be.
And I’m getting off course here. I never really fully shook off the Mennonite practice of wearing a head covering. Our congress was liberalized enough it didn’t have to be a bonnet (though I wore one until I was 12), but a head covering of some sort. So I took to wearing either a bandana or a head scarf, and I still continue to do this.
I saw this one today and liked it, so I bought it.

I'm not restocking my Calia shampoo / conditioner - forcing myself to wait a bit. I like to stock up on stuff i know I'll use when i start to get low on something, but i could wait to buy these until i get a little closer to needing more.
