View Full Version : What makes someone look exotic?
I think Adriana Lima is very exotic looking.
Jenna's real last name is Musoli (sp). Does that sound italian enough? I personally don't find her that exotic looking, but maybe its the blond hair. I wonder what she would look like with dark hair?

Sorry i have to do it , it's Laetitia Casta, just so you know...
Found a pic i think makes her look exotic, most of the time i don't think she is though,a lot of her pictures make her loose her uniqueness.
Someone i think is Exotic though, you'll prolly think it's silly, but it's Jennifer Garner. I love how she can look so normal, and then so wild too, ever changing. Just goes to show ANYONE can look exotic with the right costume/makeup/hair.
From normal...
To Punk rock/Goth...
To Stunning...
Ok, enough links, but to say the least, she's versatile. I know myself, for Halloween once i wore a black wig, and looked totally different. But jennifer is just exotic. Least to me she is..
Wow! Everyone has such a different version of what exotic looks like. It's cool to see everyone's opinion and how much they differ.
I think Jenifer Garner is very beautiful, but not exotic.

Jenna's real last name is Musoli (sp).
That sounds like Mussolini, the murdered Italian dictator's surname. So judging by the name, maybe she does have some Italian in her.
I can't believe I forgot to mention one of my favorites! Penelope Cruz. That woman is very beautiful and exotic and her accent makes me melt. And isn't Penelope such a beautiful name?

Exotic...high cheekbones, small features, and lips can be large or small. the main characteristic of looking exotic is high cheekbones. first and foremost. it doesn't matter the eye color really.....exotic pertains to specifics such as natural beauty. to look born that way not made that way. it has nothing to do with the way you apply make-up. if you have small eyes as apposed to the rest of your face...you are exotic looking. Look at Richard Gear, he is exotic looking. a natural beauty and yet his features are quite small. Or Bridgette whatever her name is, the tall white blonde who plaid in beverly hills cop. she is exotic looking. high cheekbones and a natural beauty. many people of culture are considered exotic, but it doesn't mean they are actually exotic looking...exotic is not native. Exotic is actually being strikingly unusual such as a brilliantly colored bird. there is just something about some people that really takes your breath away or makes you stare...such as Julia Roberts, or Rachel Liegh Cook with their doe eyes.
even Tara Ried is exotic looking, she has those unusually striking eyes.
and my personal favorite Milla Jovovich

Oh i found someone else too...
Kelly Hu, she's from Scorpion King, and X Men 2.
I loved the look she had going on in X Men 2, but she's naturally exotic, i think.

I really admire Penelope Cruz. Penelope is a backup stage name for me. I've never actually used it, but would like to someday.
Sapphire, you would make a good Penelope! I don't think it could work for me.

I think i may have a very good example of EXotic and not. Remember the 2 sister group Heart ? The Wilson sisters ? Well one was blonde with long hair, and she was sexy, wild and hot looking. I remember people saying that about her. (wild with the quitar too.)
Then you had the other sister, dark, sexy and very exotic looking. She gained alot of weight, which in my opinion did not matter, they where like night and day!
2 good examples of blonde, sexy...dark exotic! They moved the same, they both sang, it was just the look. It worked! Or so i would say :)
Pamela :)
Go to the gallery, some are older pix, but they changed alot!

When I think of the word exotic, I think it's a look that's almost primal. Someone mentioned the girl from the "Wicked Game" video. She's very exotic, she looks like she belongs on that island. That she's like a creature of it, and foreign to anything else but a wild environment. I dont know if this makes much sense, but when I think of exotic, I think of an animalistic, wild-like kind of beauty, a beauty that's more natural and primal than processed. I think a lot of dancers have this processed look, that's why many of us, myself included, want to look exotic. It is more natural and raw. Hard to accomplish sometimes unless you were born exotic looking or you're just very good at making yourself look that way. I definitely envy women who are naturally exotic.

Someone mentioned the girl from the "Wicked Game" video. .
You mean Brooke Shields. She's the gal in the vid. Yes, she is gorgeous in the video and her eyes are stunning (what's it with me and this eyes thing I've got going on? lol!). Her hair is in that tousled, got-outta-bed style which I always dig!
I think that it is a pretty good 'definition' though (although there are sooo many!). I like to try to look different myself and am recreating a new style as I have really short hair now. I think it's time to experiment with new, creative looks to set me apart.
I must admit, your description of exotic is very romantically worded. Tell me, are you a writer? ;)

Lol Ck! I guess i can toot my own horn at this time. I have very long dark hair and i feel exotic! Not the blonde feeling, it's strange that feeling was playful and fun, this dark hair makes me feel more serious and strong.
Just wonder how long i will keep it. I have been told my hair reminds people of a spanish nature alot, because these people know i am swedish..lol.
Also that i look pretty exotic when i wave the hair and wear earthtone clothes and make-up...gosh what a colour change in hair can do. However i find myself getting bored with the up-keep.
Shit my roots are much lighter, and they are coming in....sucks.

I've got to point out an example of an exotic-looking blonde: Uma Thurman.
imo, anyways.
I think the colloquial definition of exotic refers to looking like one has 'rare' roots- rare to a specific area, anyways.

Angelina Jolie has some Eastern European blood, which is a mix of races that can look very exotic.
This is a cool topic. I spent years agonizing over not being tall, white and blonde. What misery. And now I feel better that we see all kinds of beauty today in TV and media- albeit still too thin and too tall. There was a day when you wouldn't see ethnic people in advertisements for everyday institutions.

I liked this thread, thanks for the resurrection CK!
I still feel a lot of it is in the eyes. It is the most expressive and dare I say, noticeable part of the face. Other things will obviously add to the appeal (your mannerisms as an example, it doesn't always have to be a physical trait).
ScarlettVancouver, I do not think you're alone by saying Uma Thurman looks exotic. I have always found this woman to be very beautiful with distinguished features, even if I am one of a few.

I am very sensitive to the term "exotic". I was obssessively involved with a guy who was fixated on the tall, blonde, caucasian, american ideal of beauty. He would only really date girls with a Claudia Shiffer-esque resemblance.
Funny thing, he is Mexican-American with quite a mestizo look to him, a beautiful looking man with a rotten soul. Anyway, he always used to make fun of girls who would describe themselves as exotic. He said it was an excuse girls used when they were not attractive. Many people have told me that my slavic features are "exotic". Needless to say, I felt like a total undesirable troll for a while because I was, well, fucking obssessed......

Whoa. You look like her? Awesome!
I spent summers and holidays in Hungary because my then-boyfriend lived there. I had thought Hungarian women were supposed to be fat and ugly because that's how they are portrayed in the US media. WRONG! They are gorgeous. I think the US media was talking sh*t because they're jealous.

i dunno. I am "white" but I tan easily and have fairly dark olive skin and am very tall with dark hair. Sometimes I'm told that I look like Katie Holmes, but otherwise I get told that I look exotic. It's because people can't figure out where I'm from, exotic is something that looks different but it is enticing, you can't figure out what makes it special. That's what I think anyway.

To answer in short about darker people who desire lighter complected people: it's mostly social grooming, but also genetics- looking for a set of genes opposite of yours to reproduce with. Which results in a larger gene pool, less likelyhood of inherited diseases/ disorders getting passed on, etc....
For example: in Mexico, due to the history of the country, racism between Mexicans is always present. In fact, I have a bunch of guero (white skinned) relatives I don't care to know because they rejected my side of the family (dark, indigenous.) My great-grandfather was full Native, and he hated/ made fun of my materal grandfather- who was a blue eyed, red-haired white man, and a drunk loser as well.
Anyway, the point of my story is all my female relatives are hot-looking & bright enough have used their looks to get out of the bottom social rung that the gueros put them in. (Hahahahaha, we got ours.)

It's so interesting to see shifts in what is considered beautiful. The busty blonde Pam look is much less marketable if you're trying to model for bikini calendars, car magazines, music mags etc. If you want to work a car show, you need the "exotic" look. How many Asian girls have put themselves through surgery to have their eyes look more western? Now white girls are trying to figure out how to make their eyes look more Asian & how to grow juicy booties!
Lesson: all women are beautiful! Work what ya got. :)

Exotic=ugly? Hahahahaha---suuuurrre. I think Katrine's ex-boyfriend had hatred for himself. You sound very pretty, Katrine. Anyway, I am considered exotic, and I love it. I don't appeal to the masses because I don't have an obvious, mainstream, cookiecutter look--whether it's blonde, brunette, black, asian, etc. I am extremely mixed and often get told that I resemble Bettie Page, Angelina Jolie, or get this, Steve Tyler (not exactly a compliment)! I have a full pout, dark olive skin, dark eyes, rather chiseled features, the works. Though some people may consider me unattractive, I totally beg to differ. I'm an unusual kind of pretty, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
As far as the gene pool thing goes---my husband is dark as well, but our son is blonde with light eyes. He is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! VERY exotic. People always say that they hope their kids look like ours.:O Haha. Too bad people are stuck on that selective gene crap--there's never any guarantees about what their offspring will look like.

I've always thought that that a woman with curves is extremely exotic. Especially in this day and age. I dont know..it's just that the "waif" look isn't particularly scream WOMAN here! lol.
I think seeing a woman with an hourglass figure, womanly hips, full breasts is extremely exotic.
At one time if you would've asked me this question (which I did answer a LONG time ago haha) I would've told you that exotic is definately a woman of colour. There is something about beautiful tan, bronzed, olive skin that is extremely exotic. But now, when I think about it, I have seen some pretty "exotic" white women. Hmmm I dont really dig the pale skin look though. Just my opinion.

well.. im half italian and half cuban.. I think I probably have a fuller bottom than most white girls.. my lips are probably thicker, my hair is jet black and I have green eyes.. I have a tanned complexion..(maybe the same as j-lo) alot of girls try to imitate this look by injecting fat into their upper lip, even the buttox! Then end up looking like a broken barbie lol I wont mention any names! but i find that white girls who try their hardest to look exotic end up looking worse compared to the ones that prefer to enhance their beauty by adding simple things like make-up hair extensions etc.. as oppose to trying to alter it altogether

I think exotic is used when you are refering to someone who is uniquely sexy and almost has an animalistic or wild quality to their look. Anyone who doesn't think a white girl can be exotic just has to be refered to Angelina Jolie, Carmen Electra, Bridget Bardot, Bettie Page.

I get called exotic by people once in a while. I guess my tilty-uppy eyes that are a light green and my dark brown reddish hair and the fact I'm tall and have great posture. People think my name is exotic and that I sound like I have an accent.
I thought I was apple pie, but I guess others have to be the judge.

I naturally have an exotic look despite the lack of any real ethnic background, and I like to emphasize it with makeup often. I make my eyes smoky, and if you know how to use liquid eyeliner you can give your eyes the illusion of a different shape. I also use a sort of bronze colored lip gloss. I tan extremely easily, so when I go to the beach a lot and dye my lightened hair a shade darker, it's much more convincing.
Oops, am I posting in old threads again? Heh, sorry!

No I dont think white women are considered exotic, the term exotic refers to women of exotic locations, spain, peurto rico, costa ricca, dark haired dark eyed are usually exotic.
Spain is european and europeans are white, my husbands family is from Spain and we are talking blonde hair and hazled eyed women, not exotic at all.

Strong features usually make people look exotic no matter what their skin color is.
Also, people tend to say someone's exotic when they can't tell what ethnic background the person is too.

I find almond shaped eyes and dark hair to be extremely exotic! In Hawaii, I was always just the hapa girl (part Japanese/part Italian). But now that I live in the midwest, lots of people comment on how "exotic" I look!
