I got mine done about a month ago. I still have the pictures still in my camera. I got the weaved kind. My god my head itches!!!!! At the 1st week I felt like I was always awake b/c my hair was pulled so tightly. I felt asian looking all the time. I paid about 475 thats including tip too. I girl I spoke to said I piad about 150 too much but I gave her a hefty tip as well. My hair looks great and much fuller and much easier to deal with.
I still wash and comb it like regular hair. Just cant dye it- not like Id do that anyway. Theres so much hair on my head...there are 2 wefts per section (about 6 sections on my head total). So my head feels heavy but it was to blend the colors.

Extensions are great- they are fun and they are well worth the time to get used to them, however, everyone is doing extensions now and most time the thought of charging alot of money is more important then the integrity of the clients hair.
if you go to a stylist to get your extensions done, make sure they have references and a portfolio to show you their work. Also make sure they DO have an updated website with their work on it. Be careful, do your research. You have one head of hair, and you want your hair in good shape when they are taken out, expert care and gentleness for the install and removal of extensions is vital for health hair.

I have fine/thin hair. I once had my hair braided into tight cornrows and it fell out like crazy for a week after they came out. I really really want to get extensions but I'm afraid of losing too much hair when they come out. Which method should I look into?

for fine thin hair i would probably reccommend either shrinkies or locs.
sometimes fusion could be too heavy and also the removal with fusion, if not done properly, could be disasterous. With shrinks, all you do is use a heat wand and a special gentle oil to remove, as apposed to using acetone and pliers.
with locs, there is a special tool that re rounds the loc to open it and the hair could be slid up again for retightening. the same applies with shrinks too- the hair is reusable. With most fusion, the hair needs to be replaced every three mths, well actually, any extension method you choose should be maintanced no longer then three months to prohibit the tangling and matting that can occur from hair that would normally shed out on its own.
there is a great website

this site is dedicated to hair extensions and there is an enermous amount of information, just for the reading. hope this helps.

I dont know, I know a girl who has them in and keeps them in, not so much because she likes them, but because she has bald spots in her head wheret hey pulled all her hair out. She keeps getting them glued back on to the bald spots.
I would love to have them done but I am scared to death it will give me bald spots. My hair is already so fine and thin I would hate to make it even worse. Also, I think the braided stuff looks great on black girls, but that isnt something most white people look good with. Its the same thing with drawing on your eye brows .. just does not work for most white chiks. just my opinion. Any ideas how to get extensions that will surley not camage my fine hair?

as i stated in my other post- there is a risk we take with extensions, the main reason for breakage- is this-
first if someone is not seasoned with doing extensions or is only out to take your money, then the reusults could be aweful, secondly if too much or too little hair of your own is used to attach the extension hair, there could be too much tension thus causing hair to rip out of head. Yes i have seen it all.
here, check this out,

there are many white girls with great extensions

I had fusion done about a month ago, and I love it.... Fusion is where they heat up the glue with a hot glue gun. The only problem that I've had is that the extensions have shed a LOT towards the bottom, but I talked to my hairdresser and she said that was normal. They also are kinda itchy, but I only wash my hair once a week, and I've always had that problem (they itch more where I can't reach because of the hair bonds).

Having talked to quite a few people in the styling industry, I've been told that Fusion and Great Lengths are about the same, quality wise. However, it all depends on the person you go to. If someone doesn't know what they're doing, of course it's going to mess up your hair. I had a bunch of girls tell me to not get extensions done, I saw bald patches on one girls' head from where she had hers come out. I talked to her later, and unlike my hairdresser, her stylist didn't clip any hairs that were pulling tightly. OF COURSE they'd pull out then.

Honestly, my hair has been healthier since I got the extensions done. I'm very happy with them, and even after my hair grows longer, I'll probably continue to get them just to have the thickness of the extensions. Just make sure that you take care of them. You shouldn't wash your hair everyday, extensions or not, it's not good for your hair OR your scalp - it strips the oil out.

That's my .02.

Oh, just any hairs that were pulling enough that they were painful.... I wasn't happy about the idea of having possible bald spots, but she explained she was only clipping the one or two hairs that were tight enough to be pulling.

This was the hair off my head, mind you....... Not the extension hair.

Most peoples hair & scalp can take one type of hair extension system or another. Its important to talk with someone who knows about more than one system so they can compare and let you know which will work best for you. The sew on ones are good if you have tough scalp and can handle the bulky feel. The bond method (glue) is good for hair that is fairly strong and can take the weight. Mark barringtons are good for fair haired, tender headed ladies who want to only buy hair once and reuse it.
Ask lots of questions before you get the install done!!

I say Do it! Get them, you will be happy with them.Great Lengths cost more for 3 reasons.1~The hair is most desired above all other kinds of extensions 2~The bonding is not glue instead it is a protein that is safe to the hair and easily removed.3~it last the longest. So if you are paying less for other kinds that don't last as long, you're actually spending more on less quality hair extensions in the long run. ;)

I love them.

Now I am a cheap skate, lol. I would love to have the extra $1500 to get the great lenghts or other kinds, but I'll just stick with paying $13 a week to get mine done.

I pay $7 for the bundle of hair; yes it's synthetic but it matches my natural curl so well. Then $1 for the glue and $2 for the bond remover. And another $3 or so for the bond remover shampoo.

And then my husband puts them in for me. I know it sounds funny, but every girl at work swears I had to have them put in by a pro and it must have cost me a fortune.

I trusted him to be my life partner and the father of my kids, so why wouldn't I trust him with my hair?!

They only last about a week before I want them out, lol, but I'll take them out wash it really well then put them back in the next day.

Even if I have to put them in every week, it's still cheaper that having the euro locks done, so I can't complain about that.

Yeah, honestly I kind of like gluing them in. The key is just to find a hair color that matches yours, or what also looks awesome is buying like blond, brown, red and gluing one to two tracks in of each color.

I bought clip in human hair extensions on ebay (edensextensions) and wear them every day.. they only take 15 minutes to put in and look natural although the quality of the hair is awful. I highly recommend the clip ins but if you order online make sure you get good quality hair

Kitana, this is exactly what I do! I do spend 100.00 on the human hair though. But my fiance sits on the couch and I sit on the floor and he places the rows on my head, LOL. I thought I was the only one who does this!!

I also like the freedom of being able to take them out when I want to, like when I'm on vaca or something and I don't want the hassle. The only thing that sucks is the smell of the bond remover.....ugggh!

What bond remover do you use? I have used some really nice smelling bond remover. The glue smells like ammonia though. Eck.

Depending on what your hair is like depends on what hair extension system is best for you. Look into shrinklinks with . The hair that is matched to your hair it attached to yours with a small clear link that shrink wraps around your hair and the hair extension tip. I like it for some of my clients better than the bonds. The hair is reusable so you buy beautiful hair once and not again, till you want to add lowlights, highlights or change length. These types of methods are called "single strand" & I agree they are better than the braiding with sewing or glueing methods. Much more professional looking and WAY better for your scalp and hair.

I do great Lengths and the bond X solution is mainly just your everday Rubbing Alcohol..Although I don't personally use it but know other reps do.

I get hair extensions put in with wax. I went for a GL consultation, and it would have cost me $1200 for a half head of extensions, and she said they would last 4-6 months. Right now I'm paying $400 for my wax extensions (full head), and they last 3 months, so really I'm getting a good deal. I love them. You should look into these. I pay about $150 for each bag of hair, and I use 2 bags, and then she charges me $100 to put them in, and it takes about 4 hours.

I actually have been doing fusion extensions and got great responses. I don't charge like salons do and it last up to 3 months. Here's some pictures of my work and tell me what you gals think?

I am a true believer that anyone who gets extenisons should get them because they want them and not get them for someone else. Having said that the type of extension should be suitable to the your hair & personal taste. Not all systems are for appropriate for all. It is important you find a stylist that knows about several systems so they can suggest the one that is best for you. As opposed to someone that only knows one system and is less objective. Keep in mind there is a system out there that is single strand AND resuable. Check out . This system allows a sample of your hair to be sent to be matched as opposed to having to match your hair to the system.

I live by my hair extensions! I actually discovered ones called clip-on extensions by Put on Pieces - and best of all they don't fall out! Definitely go for the human hair ones - they are a little more expensive, but they are totally worth it. The best part is you can put them in yourself and you can take them out whenever you want. They don't damage your hair like the glue in ones and with human hair you can die it or curl it or whatever you want. Go to - they have the best prices.
