View Full Version : What are some Unusual songs you can get away with?
Cradle of Filth - a lot of songs from "Lovecraft" and "Witch Hearts"
Switchblade Symphony - "Serpentine Gallery" and "Sinister Nostalgia"
I can also see doing a hell of a show to track 18 from "28 days later" soundtrack, and right now I'm listening to Godspeed You Black Emperor and some of it sounds really interesting.

Nas feat Pharrel Williams - 'Flyest Angels'
That song is ace! It has a nice asian flavour to it. Very cool! I think it's from the Charlies Angels 2 soundtrack. I was thinking of dancing to it to see the response. Definitely worth checking out.

Right now i think Linkin Parks new song is cool, i like the fast and slow of it. His voice is very sexy, and the words have meaning.
Title: Faint....rocks and kicks ass for the "gutsy" dancer!

Blu... you let me know if you find a GY!BE song you can get away with dancing to; I'd *love* to know.
Also, if you like the Switchblade stuff, have you checked out Jack Off Jill? Susan from Switchblade remixed some of it (Girlscout, specifically) and I think it might work. Newer Rasputina too...
Cradle of Filth... hmmm.. they are popular here so that might be a band to try.

A great dayshift song-it's a classic. Partly in portuguese. Swanky still. It is called The Girl from Ipanema. Jazzy as all get out. Will get older classier customers.
Did it on A whim and whaddya know? I got a great response. One man said he had NEVER heard in a SC and had not heard it in years.

My daddy was a milkman by the Kentucky Headhunters for a funny milkman set. I had a hot milk man outfit when I was on the circuit and I had panties that said got milk on the ass. At the end I would risk it and pour milk on my self as long as there were black lights and I was last up! Its hot trust me.

You know what is great? The Pink Panther Theme by Henry Mancini. I fell in love with this song since I learned to play it and even have the Mancini collection. I have danced to it wearing my playboy-esque mini black dress with the white fur trim. It's quite classy and it's a good attention grabber!!!

oh yes, I got the pink panther idea from the poster who was doing a burglur theme. I found a techno version online which I really like and have used it a couple times. (I'm notorious for finding "the techno version")
And this one's beyond unusual it's just plain crazy I've played Slayer twice now - chemical warfare - played it because:
1) i was a fan in junior high
2) someone actually brought in the cd
3) i was pissed about something
ummm...no techno version for slayer tho. ::)

I have played some goofy shit when the club is dead and I'm bored:
Adam Sandler-Piece of shit car
Red Peters-How's your whole...family
MC Hammer-U can't touch this
Vanilla Ice-Ice Ice Baby
It gets a laugh out of the guys and then they come up and tip me cuz they're not used to hearing that kind of music. I wouldn't play these type of songs when it's crowded though, only on a slow night when I'm really bored.
I like Tenacious D too! I heard their CD for the first time when my friend and I were in his car. We almost had to pull the car over because we were laughing so hard.

Numerous tracks by Tori Amos, even some obscure stuff, and it really goes over well! Also Portishead, Natalie Merchant, PJ Harvey, and a bunch of songs off movie soundtracks that nobody knows very well, if at all. I love to confuse people with a strong song from the female sensual perspective, it catches them off guard and makes them take notice. And I get so much more into the performance during these type of songs. I don't do the raunchy or funny songs too well. A DJ once played some silly big-brown-beaver song when I was up, but about a third of the way through it, he realized he was playing the wrong thing for the wrong dancers, and switched it to Tori Amos' Siren. He made some comment about having screwed up and playing something that would get the girls going instead, then I hear the first notes of Tori, and just went wild. I got so into it, I was tingling all over. The good DJs pay attention to what inspires you when they can. Needless to say, he was tipped very well that night!

Medium Pace by Adam Sandler, what a beautiful love song.

A Saturday night favorite at my bar is You don't even know my name by David Allen Coe and Family Tradition by Hank Williams Jr., this always turns into a bar sing along.

"Fuck Her Gently" by Tenacious D. It's really slow and kind of silly, but it really livens up the crowd.

Since you ask, here is a short list of 'odd' tunes I've seen women get away with under specific conditions:
Dweezl&AhmetZappa - HitMeBabyOneMoreTime..young crowd
RevoltingCocks - Physical ...young crowd
GuyLombardo - EnjoyYourself ...ancient crowd, as its the 'flip side' of AuldeLangSyne on the old 45rpm vinyl single so EVERYONE over 60 has heard it ... beware the phogie sing-a-long...I used to play it as the 'sign off' tune in Yellowknife NWT [Canada, eh] many moons ago...uh-oh...'You work and work for years it seems, you're always on the go ... you never take a minute off, too busy mak'in dough ... someday you say you'll have your fun, when you're a millionaire ... imagine all the fun you'll have, in your old rock'in chair // Enjoy-y-y-y yourself ... It's later than you think ... enjoy-y-y-y yourself ... while you're still in the pink .... etc [chuckling]
SuicidalT..s - Institution ...tear away straight jacket costume#1
"" - IWasn'tMeant2FeelThis/
[email protected] ...sameset#2
...saw this once about 5 years ago ... what a novel idea ...
...straight jacket was 'rigged' with burr zippers...
FrankSinatra - Love&Marriage - 'KellyBundy' lookalike's show
LilLouis - FrenchKiss [9'55"] ...french maid outfit
I'm sure I've got more ... lemmie think on it.

You know, I know I slated them earlier on this site because I felt that they were overplayed, but I am really lovin' Rammstein these days. I never really took the time to sample their collection before - they are extremely talented! I adore the lead's gruff vocals - so strong and full of character (and German. Mmmmm...). I have chosen some songs to dance to in the future but definitely NOT "Du Hast". I'm so sick of hearing that just now! It is a good tune but I need a break from it.
strokin' by clarance carter, daterape by sublime, the seed pt.2 by the roots, hurt by johnny cash and sweet jane by the cowboy junkies(so sexy). zan

I regularly dance to "Under My Thumb" by the Rolling Stones. It's a lot more pop-y and oldie-sounding than most of their songs, but it's such a great stripping song.

Any Basement Jaxx lovers out there? Some of their stuff is great to groove to. I'm really feeling ''Living Room'' from their Kish-Kash album. I like that one! I wanna use that when I get on stage, it's short but sassy!!! ''Good Luck'' from the same album is also great. :)

I like that Warm Leatherette song lol. It has such a catchy little sound. It reminds me of dancing with this lady I used to know at the goth club I worked at. Actually, she was a guy, but anyway that song reminds me of her. I liked her, she was really cool. Hmmm, paired with some black vinyl and constrasted with a semi-perky attitude, that song could surely work. It is definitely unusual for the stripclub!

Nellie McKay, won't you be nice
She's brand new...this song has a slow jazzie feel, but she takes her punches at the married man...sometimes they get it, and sometimes not. they usually laugh.
Let me know if you like it too.

Katrine, try "The Gap" by Thompson Twins, an eighties band, vaguely proto-techno. It has a very pronounced Middle Eastern Belly Dance sound, and shouldn't be any problem to get them to play whenever you want, if they play eighties stuff at all.
It is a very long song at over 7 minutes so be sure to tell the DJ to cut it--this can be done easily at about 3 minutes or a little further.

And dancing to his music, well Vaseline was hot when he was Soundgarden, (i think).
Btw, Pamela, you're thinking of Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots - they did Vaseline. Cool song, though. And I absolutely love Chris Cornell w/ the old Rage lineup. Audioslave rocks :)

I need a samurai outfit for this set but I've still danced to it cause I still like the beat of the music. I'm a big adult swim fan and these are songs off some of the anime cartoons I've watched
The beginning theme to Samurai Champloo
The beginning theme to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
And One of the ending themes to Inuyasha
Amazing the shit you can download off the net.
