Ryan, you should have been suspicious of that site accuracy based on these two claims
Quoting them(see their page)
"Length of time the world's petroleum reserves would last if all human beings ate meat-centered diets: 13 years

Length of time the world's petroleum reserves would last if all human beings ate vegetarian diets: 260 years"

If true then meat has to consume 95% of all energy in the world. If true I am gonna buy a Hummer and run over a cow.

The site you quote also claims we import 200 million pounds of meat from certain Cental American countries and are destoying their rainforest (with all the zeros to impress you). The number is hard to believe unless the are including fish as meat (never seen a rainforest in an ocean), and even if it were true it would be 10.66 oz. per person(200million pounds/ 300 million people * 16 oz in a pound, DO THE MATH) That is LESS than 3 quarter-pounders at McDonalds. Also given the countries, what isn't fish is mostly likely chicken. Maybe it is a quarter-pounder, a Chicken McNuggets, and a Fishwich from BurgerKing.

I took Paxil for a year or 2. I was switched to serzone but I had to slowly lessen my Paxil dose first. I had to go to the ER because I was shaking & dizzy & I kept getting head shivers. It was weird. And they couldn't do anything for me. These symptoms would even occur after missing only a dose or two. I wasn't on Serzone long enough to form an opinion. I went back to using Prozac which I love. No bad side effects. My mother used lexapro shortly but she said it made her hungry. She also used Wellbutrin but swears by Prozac.

Hi Kobi!
I'm in a hurry and haven't had a chance to read everyones replys to your questions about zoloft(sorry). When I was 14 I started taking zoloft. At the time they told me that one of the side affects was weight loss. The doctor never said anything about weight gain, but it might have been because I was dealing with anorexia at the time. I don't think I lost or gained weight on it, but I did get really bad insomnia(which is one other side affect). It was so bad I had to stop taking it. They eventually switched me to Serzone.

I was on Prozac for 8 years, then went off of it last September because my psych told me I didn't need them anymore. I was put back on it 2 weeks ago by a different psych (part of the reason I joined Stripperweb and then didn't post for 3 weeks..I've barely been able to get out of bed due to severe depression). I've pretty much relented to the fact that I need this medication to be stable.

In any event, I never noticed weight gain from Prozac. The only SSRI I've heard of that makes people gain weight is Paxil, and even that doesn't happen with everyone. It's just like quitting smoking: even if you gain a few pounds, the result is well worth it (i.e., your health :-*) and the weight gain won't last.

I haven't read this thread other than the title,so I apologise if I'm wasting anyone's time, but an article in the Times (UK newspaper) this week showed that placebos actually had a better rate of success than Zoloft in a study. If anyone is interested I can try to find a link

It's time for Ryan to be schooled by NinaDaisy once again...

I agree that drug companies don't always have our best interests at heart (such as recommending SSRI's for "Social Anxiety Disorder" AKA "Shyness").

However, when you talked in an earlier post to "get help" if one is feeling suicidal, you are completely missing the point. SSRI's are meant to prevent anyone getting to that point.

I was one Zoloft for a year when I was 14. It was the worst year of my life and I never want to feel that way again. My weight got down to 95lbs (I'm 5'4" and was back then), REFUSED to go to school for months and would literally lay in bed zonked out with tears pouring from my face. I was ill. I had been in talk therapy for years, but this was an utter black hole from hell. The Zoloft saved my life. Believe me, if I could have "snapped myself out of it" I would have in a second.

I went through another depressive episode in college, though not as bad, but still debilitating. I took Paxil for a few months and it made me almost manic, even though I'm not bi-polar. I talked even faster that usual, lost weight, had the shakes and my thoughts came faster than I could process them, all on the smallest dose, and Paxil can't be scored (cut in portions).

I went on Wellbutrin after that for one year and helped to stabilize my moods.

It has been proven that severe mental illness is often caused by brain chemistry. I agree that many drugs (not just SSRI's) are over-prescribed, however, please don't tell me that eating a melon a day would have perked me up when I was 14.

Ryan is merely reinforcing the stereotype that mental illness is either related to willpower or somehow just a severe character flaw.

I have only taken SSRI's on those occasions, but they helped me tremendously. I still get the blues now and then, since I know humans are supposed to feel a range of emotions, but I know there are people out there with worse depression than mine and it's quite possible that they can thank these drugs for being able to lead a normal life.
