Being bipolar - with many many many episodes of major depression beginning in childhood, I've spent much of my life being what's called "passively suicidal". No actual suicide attempts but constant thoughts.

Hi girls, I sympathize but enough is enough. Is it any wonder that society dosen't take us seriously, we act like a bad Jerry Springer episode.
Everyone has problems and issues, but instead of dealing with them rationally wemask the problems with booze, drugs, counselling and medication after medication.
Instead of taking care of our bodies and minds, we engage in every type of self-destructive behavior imagineable and blame EVERYONE but ourselves for our current circumstances.
We are adults but we act like kids.
I love my job. Like the freedom and flexibilty. Enjoy the money. Admittedly it isn't what I envisioned I would be, but it is my choice and accept the negatives that go with it.
Alannah
Alannah that's good for you. But everyone is doesn't handle situations the way you do. I think your comment is rude an uncalled for. I dont think everyone that try to commit suicide do drugs or drink either. Dancers or not. I havent try to commit suicide. But I know of a 15 year old girl that have killed herself. And saying enough is enough isnt helping.

Hi
I wasn't trying to be rude or cruel. I was simply pointing out that too often we dwell on ALL the negatives of our industry, forgetting the positives.
I am far from perfect, but working out 4 times a week not only benefits your body, but is a proven anti-depressant. In fact, studies have shown that it achieves better results than the actual prescribed anti-depressant medications.
Also (and you probably wont like this), due to the psychological strain our industry places on us, It is definitely not for everyone. If you can't handle, quit.
I realize I sound a little cruel, but the best advice I ever had came from my first manaer. He told me to treat it as a job NOT a lifestyle. That has been my mantra ever since.
If we had "regular" jobs and moaned and complained the way we do, our boss would tell us to grow up. Just because we take our clothes off for a living dosen't mean we can't behave like adults.

Stella, I am in no way judging you, as I have been a heavy weed smoker in the past, but what I've discovered is this: when I'm depressed, I smoke weed. Afterwards, it makes me feel dull and numb. I end up smoking again, though, and the cycle continues. Weed is not great for depression. Of course, if you're an occasional smoker, that's probably different.

[QUOTE=Fawn]I think everyone has felt this way at one time or another. A few months after my brother was killed last year a friend killed himself. My dad who is bi- polar also tried to kill himself when I was 12, and anyone who is stupid enough to actually do it deserves to be dead. My brother didn't have a choice wether he lived or died, and you do, so if your going to be an idiot and do it then you deserve to die.
Sorry to hear about your brother, & friend. A relative & a couple friends of mine, have commited suicide. Glad to hear you have such positive spin regarding unfortunate things done by people you don't know (among countless others). Merry Chirstmas...

Yea even tried it once when I was like 13 or something. Of course Im still here and Im ok now and deal with crazy stuff in my life alot better. I just have really ruff sex and then Im great. Had about 5 years of counseling from some other things that happen along with that so I got better. Had Paxil too for about a year of that.
CrAzY stuff....but now Im an adult and people change their emotional ways of think and rationalizing as we get older. Im glad Im older in one sense. The grasp on whats more important is much more apparent now.
Hope you are doing ok though :(
