I actually cut down on them because my hair was growing *too* fast. I was taking 2 Wal-Mart and 2 Hair, Skin, and Nails pills a day, now I am down to 1 of each. It was too much upkeep with my highlights. A week after I would got my last highlights, I already had roots. So, I am going to see how I do with 1 of each per day.

Ladies.... any updates??? Just curious to know if the hair still looks good after you decide to stop taking the pills..??
It's been a year or so now, and my hair is down to the middle of my back. I stopped taking them last summer, and it's still growing nicely.

I use the Biotin 2500mcg pills. I get them from GNC.
I gulp down two of those babies daily. I have seen results from taking them.

They made my hair start falling out---happens when your body gets too much vitamin A. I have switched to taking fenugreek, saw palmetto and biotin each day, and the hair loss stopped and my hair is growing like a weed.

Oh man I love these things. I've been taking them for about a month (the hair supplements from puritan's pride) and my hair is SO incredibly soft and healthy. I only wash it about 2x a week. I think it really improved the oil in my scalp and has given it great body. It hasn't grown much but I haven't been taking them that long... but I started seeing great effects by 3 weeks!

I'm bumping this thread again to announce I'm now taking the pills EVERY OTHER day. I'm Asian and normally never worry about shaving (about 1.5 a week)... but now I'm shaving every other day and noticing hair growth incredibly fast!!!
Of course the hair on my head looks AMAZING... low maintenance and gorgeous... but ohhh god, my body hair is just out of control. :P

So you're using Puritan's Pride..I have one bottle left of the original pills we raved about. I stopped taking them because I didn't have any backups!

u know what strikes me as odd .. these pills should have no effect on the hair you already have. your hair is strands of dead proteins and once it leaves your scalp, the only things that can affect would be environmental (hair dyes, heat, sun, pool chemicals, etc). i believe there may be pills that help the hair to grow faster .. but improve your existing hair's condition? too unbelievable for me...

PrettyCurlieQ, you are absolutely right. Hair is dead. You can't make the hair you already have healthy by taking pills, etc. Vitamins only work to make new hairgrowth grow in stronger and faster.
I still take the Wal-Mart pills, and my hair would probably be to my waist if I didn't cut it nearly every month. I just had my hair highlights touched up last week and little roots are starting to show already. The highlights are a bitch to keep up, but I like how strong my hair is, so I continue to take the pills. I swear the vitamins help a tremendous amount.

I stopped taking them for a while, like 4 months or so, but only because I was too lazy to drive to the Wal-Mart to buy them. I did notice that my hair growth slowed down a lot. About 2 weeks ago I was in Wal-Mart for something else and grabbed 4 bottles and have started taking them again - 1 a day. My hair is slow growing to begin with, but I did notice a huge improvement when taking these on a regular basis.

Man, I envy you Americans. You can just waltz into any walmart or gnc and get hair pills. They don't sell them in canada and the duties are a bitch :(

Sorry, but I don't think I came across clearly in my last post. I know that I just have a bunch of dead cells up there -- what I was trying to say is that the OILS in my scalp have improved a lot. So that means that the previously bleached, dried shafts of hair on my head now have much better protection against drying out and it stays a bit more moisturized because my body's producing better protection for my hair. So you're right about the hair, but there's a tiny bit more going on up on my head. Dig? :)
For instance -- I normally tie my hair up with a hairband when I take a shower. Before I started taking the pills, the really damaged ends of my hair would often rip and tear when I took the hairband out. After a couple of months, even those parts became a lot less resistant to styling and fiddling.
And like I said, it has caused accelerated hair growth in general, as evidenced by my shaving routine being 2x as often now as it was 3 months ago!

You can get them from puritanspride.com. I just checked -- they ship to canada. It's the brand I use.

I had a look at the HAIR vitamin from puritan pride though...it just looks like the ingredients in my multi, but with more folic acid and Pantothenic acid so it'd probably be more economical to buy those nutrients on their own and take them.
It doesn't have much biotin...which I thought was crucial to growing hair.
Maybe I should pick up some folic acid...
Oh OH! Has anyone heard about/had success with vit. E for growing hair? It was mentioned earlier and is supposed to be amazing, but I can't imagine how it works other than being moisturizing.

You know what would be cool? If someone could type out the ingredients in the Walmart hair pills.
Perhaps we can pinpoint what makes them so amazing :D

Thanks so much for this info girls!! Lately I've been looking for something to make my hair grow longer, healthier, and stronger, and the idea of extensions did not appeal to me. Why spend all the money and time getting extensions when you can spend a little time/money just growing your own?
I just ordered my bottle today. Yay!
You girls rock. Thank you again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey, thanks for typing that out CK.
I'm seeing a trend with the hair pills. I really think it's the pantothenic acid and the folic acid. Because, aside from those ingredients, this is just the dose of vitamins in your standard multi.
I think the biotin helps, but there's not really that much in there. I do know that the first two vitamins help metabolize biotin though, so I guess you'd use more of it. And biotin helps grow hair for sure
If any vitamin buffs care to help out, I'd like your input!

OK even though I ordered some online, I still decided to go to Wal Mart today and purchase 3 bottles of it. So I am taking them as of today. My long bangs/top layer reaches my chin. I can't wait to grow out my hair and have my naturally curly hair healthy again.
I'll let you know if anyone notices my hair growth.

Did the Walmart pill smake your hair fall out, or the GNC?

GNC in Canada has 2 varieties available here. Nourishair and a hair and nail formula kept in the women's health section.
I have bought the hair and nail one and it helped jump start my nail growth after breaking a couple of them.
They were sold out of Nourishair because it is insanely popular and everyone raves that it works like magic! I have yet to try it to see for myself.
Until I got pregnant with my first baby my nails wouldn't grow and were so horribly weak I needed to get artificial ones. When I started breastfeeding my son the nails appeared and were at least strong enough to last and grow past the tips of the fingers.
I would love to try something like the Walmart or other for my hair but being preggers now I have to limit things like this and clear any suppliment/med with my doc first.

I just resupplied at my local Wal-Mart. I've been taking them off and on, not regularly to really tell any specific effects (like how much faster my hair has grown, etc). I will say that my hair has never been so shiny and soft! It's gorgeous. I do need a haircut and I should probably use that point to track any hair growth. Mine usually grows at the typical half-inch per month.

I know I know, shame on me for bringing back such a dead thread; but I had to.
Just wanted to update. I stopped taking them in summer of 06, when my hair was to mid-back. I found a web site in summer of 08 that helped a ton (long hair community forums), so I started taking them again.
Stopped taking them in Nov right before surgery (full lapro hysto), and currently my hair (after last week's 4" hair trim) is to the top of my butt crack.
Yeah, they work and work WELL!!! The only problem is that they work too well, and hair grows too much, lol!

How much does your hair grow in the average month? I mean, this seems too good to be true. Does Wal-Mart still carry them?

No worries guys, and as far as s&h, they are super quick, but I have ordered there before, so that might be why.
For about 3 months straight last summer the Fed X/UPS/and USPS guys were at the house almost daily. Between the Lush, the hair pills, the zombie survival gear, and the kiddo's junk for rhythmic gymnastics, I was an ordering fool, lol!

I started with 2 a day till I got as long as I wanted, now it's 1 daily. A bit more fuller, but I have fairly thick hair anyway.

From the reviews I've read, some experienced that, and some didnt... I am willing to have to shave more, if I can get six to eight inches of growth faster than normal.

Wal-mart doesn't have them anymore it seems. It also appears as though they don't even have any Hair/Skin/Nails multivitamins or anything. They have instead Spring Valley Super Potency Biotin 5000 mcg. It's like $7 and has 120 pills. It says to take one a day. I'm using that in addition to Dollar General's Hair, Skin, & Nails multivitamin; it's supposed to be the generic brand of GNC's same product. It has only 2500 mcg of biotin, but it also has vitamin a, c, d, and e and stuff so it's all-in-all good for you.
Thought I'd throw that out there so you girls could have options.
I've only been taking them for about a week now and I think my hair has already grown about a quarter of an inch. :)

I'm sad to report that I cannot find the Wal-Mart hair pills anywhere anymore. I live in LA and have looked and looked but the 4 walmarts closest to me don't have them anymore. I've started taking Nioxin's hair vitamins and they work unbelievably well too, but the price tag does not compare to the wal mart vits. :( GNC's Nourishhair are good too.

Try kitana's link. Those at the ones we are talking about. What are the ingredients in the nioxin and gnc hair pills? I'm curious. I'm wondering if they contain horsetail herb.
I am also taking Nioxin hair vitamins, they're aight, but expensive!

I can't even guess lets just say it's gotta be at least 1-2 inches a month easy .. it's insane how fast my hair and nails have grown. Plus my hair looks super healthy and thick. Just try it for 3 months and I bet it will become part of your normal beauty routine.
