this was our anniv..we went to the Stanley hotel aka the "overlook" from the shinning.

JEALOUS. How awesome was that? }:D

09-10-2008, 02:24 PM
Dude it was amazing. It was a surprise actually. He came home from his UK tour and had told me to have my bags packed and be ready to head out. I had NO idea where we were going and he refused to tell me. Literally he went from one plane to another. We went to Denver then drove the rest of the way to the small town Stanley is located. We spent 3 days and it was beautiful.

It's not the sweetest thing he's ever done for me, he's done ever sweeter..but it ranks in the top 5. He's an amazing man and the best gift giver ever.

09-10-2008, 02:33 PM
I'm so jealous! I didn't know you could actually stay there. Was it creepy? Was it during winter? That would be best, I think.

09-10-2008, 03:15 PM
They are closed during the winter. We went in April on our anniv.

Not all of the film was shot there. Only the 2nd film (the redo) was completely shot there and for added bonus so was Dumb and Dumber.

For historical purposes beyond the Stephen King movie...amazing.

They of course say it's haunted however, beyond weird noises it wasn't creepy. Very old, lovely and an aire of elite that is far gone from our generation.

I recommend going and staying simply because the entire town is beautiful and the hotel is as well. But if you are looking for ghosts you won't find them. No one has ever died there.

^ that first pic is so cute

09-10-2008, 03:27 PM
I don't have a digital camera. I said NO to them and only use a mac book...so we seriously had to press the photo button on my "photobooth" run and pose ..5 seconds. lol

09-10-2008, 05:04 PM
Sophia...I'm SO jealous!! Me and hubby have always wanted to stay there!! We both love the Shining and it would just be so freakin' cool....want to go in winter though to up the creepy factor!!! Someday....

And I had no idea you could get so close to Mt Rushmore!! Cool!

09-10-2008, 05:06 PM
^ you can get even closer but we had like 20 minutes to do that in. It was off the beaten path. I really thought it would be bigger! None the less, it's insane to see. And I recommend going.

09-10-2008, 09:03 PM
It's absolutely gorgeous...I will stay there someday, hopefully in room 237 (or 217, since Stephen King stayed in that one). I just wish they kept the carpets from the 70s!

09-10-2008, 10:46 PM
^ that room actually had a fire. (we learned all these nifty things on a tour) however those scenes with the carpet that you watched in the movie were filmed in a hotel in london not there at the stanley. That was something we had hoped to see as well.

VERY LITTLE was filmed there. It was basically only the inspiration. I'll have to ask Chris but I believe only a few (like 3 scenes were filmed there) like the Kitchen..."some" of the outside and that was it. The rest was filmed in London

"The Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon was used for the front exterior, but all the interiors as well as the back of the hotel were specially built at Elstree Studios in London, England. The management of the Timberline requested that Stanley Kubrick not use 217 for a room number (as specified in the book), fearing that nobody would want to stay in that room ever again. Kubrick changed the script to use the nonexistent room number 237."

"All of the interior rooms of The Overlook Hotel were filmed at Elstree Studios in England, including The Colorado Lounge, where Jack does his typing. Because of the intense heat generated from the lighting used to recreate window sunlight, the lounge set caught fire. Fortunately all of the scenes had been completed there, so the set was rebuilt with a higher ceiling, and the same area was eventually used by Steven Spielberg as the snake-filled Well of the Souls tomb in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)."

"The red bathroom, where Jack and Grady speak for the first time, was modeled after a bathroom in a hotel in Arizona, which was built by Frank Lloyd Wright."

09-23-2008, 06:44 PM
K took this one the other night when he was watching a movie on his computer. He was sitting on the floor with his back to the couch, and I fell asleep on one shoulder and Buddy fell asleep on the other. Note my arm draped over his chest too, LOL... poor guy just had to sit there and be a pillow for both of us while he watched his movie.

(And he also desperately needs a haircut, so don't worry, his hair doesn't usually look so bad.)

I think the bible says it is a sin for a man to lie with a beast as he lies with a woman. Shame on him! /:O

09-26-2008, 11:03 AM
He'd kill me if he knew I posted these... but here he is.

The ones in the cowboy hat at from my recent trip to Kansas to visit him @ the beginning of this month. We were at a rodeo. The others are from a photo shoot he did back in 2005. He was on one model place with his own profile, he did get a little bit of work from it.

I love my 155 pound, 6 foot tall, skinny man with muscle definition. :)

Me too!! No scrawny pretty boys for me! I like a big ol' manly man!

10-01-2008, 01:12 AM
Lol, I usually like me some skinny pretty boys, but things just kinda clicked with Robby and I so I wound up with a dude with actual biceps for once who even has a teensie bit of chest hair rather than shaving it all off. But he's a pretty boy in that he's always clean and smells WONDERFUL, and that's what counts with me.

10-01-2008, 05:50 PM
^^^I LOVE chest hair!!So masculine!!I love to snuggle in bed with hubby watching tv or a movie with my head on his chest combing his chest hair with my fingers

Eeeeew, no gracias! I definitely prefer my men hairless; a slight bit of fur is okay, but a pelt is a dealbreaker.

10-13-2008, 03:15 PM
