Don't feel like the lone ranger, Mermaid. I also had (and still have) doubts about this, and went so far as to try and look up past post by Fran to see if the writing style and grammar were similar.

If nothing else, this thread should serve as a wake-up call to dancers thinking about travelling to foreign countries, who should always keep the following points in mind ...

#1 - there is no free lunch. If you accept """free""" airfare, accomodations etc. as part of a club deal, you WILL be charged for it in one way or another. If you stay for the entire contract period, you'll be charged for it simply by the club keeping a substantial percentage of your earnings.

#2 - breaking a contract without an extremely good reason is serious business. Unless you are deathly ill, or unless something massively bad happens at home (like a kid or parent died), the foreign clubowner may look upon a dancer leaving early as a breach of contract. This is a chargeable crime even in the USA. However, the foreign clubowner would undoubtedly receive a profitable settlement to allow you to leave before the contract period is up (like paying for your own airline tickets both ways, forfeiting your weekly shift pay for the entire period you worked there etc). But trying to skip out without reaching a settlement could get you charged with a crime.

#3 - locals always win over foreigners. If you get in any sort of trouble while dancing in a foreign country, you will be at a huge disadvantage.

#4 - "First World" legal principles you take for granted, like a fair trial, equal rights for women, posting bail etc. may not apply in the foreign country.

#5 - help is a long way away, and of limited value. If anything does go wrong with your foreign club gig, the only organization which will be in your corner is your embassy/consulate staff. However, they are limited in their ability to help based on the complex relationship between the country you've traveled to and your home country.

#6 - in most non-"First World" countries, sex is cheap and plentiful. Therefore you REALLY need to do your homework in regard to the contact levels versus expected earnings of the foreign club you're considering working at. There are VERY few clubs in the "third world" which offer high earnings potential at manageable contact levels !

I just found this thread - personally I think this was a bogus post. Just to update she last logged on June 17th. This should be a warning to all dancers regardless of age or experience. I would never work in a foreign country as a dancer... thats just too risky. he only country I would work in would be Germany and only in Munich. I lived there for 4 years and I have family and friends there. If you stumble across a deal that seems too good to be true it probably is! Mermaidz was right... the dates of her posts and what she posted just dont look right but take it as a warning!
