As a matter of fact, I think dancers are just as intelligent as any professional with a PhD. This is because we are somewhat like doctors. We are the doctors to most of these men we see, speak with and make money off of every night...in fact if a girl didn't have any psychological skills whatsoever, she would not be making so much or any at all. We're all very intelligent- some of us don't realize...but you will eventually...

There's a big difference between intelligence and education.
In fact, my favorite definition of an Intellectual is: someone who has been educated beyond his or her intelligence. This doesn't hold true for some, but it's true for a whole lot of them.

Sorry Diamond BUT- some of the "smartest" women I
know dance for a living YET I've also met a few imbeciles
who know how to strip. ALL of the dancers that I've
invested time, effort and money in getting to know
had well developed people skills and were just plain
"interesting". I don't waste my time on "hustlers" and
a dancer w/o something going on behind her eyes isn't
going to hold my interest for more than a minute or two.
Education and intelligence are two different things BUT
the more "intelligent' dancers tend to get themselves
educated because inter alia they KNOW that they can't
shake & shimmy forever and/or they don't want to in the first place. Or maybe that's the "wiser" dancers.
O.K. so the perfect dancer is EDUCATED, INTELLIGENT
and WISE enough to use and apply both.

So here's my question....
ARE THERE ANY OTHER STRIPPERS THAT FEEL LIKE THEY ARE TRAPPED IN A JERRY SPRINGER SOAP OPERA AND HATE EVERYONE THEY WORK WITH?
DO INTELLEGENT, WELL-READ, STRIPPERS EXIST OR IS THE STEREOTYPE CORRECT?
::raises her hand::
I am done with college and love dancing so much I am going to do it until I drop. (I previously had a career in finance.) I do not drink, or do drugs at all, period. I do however smoke a ton of cigarettes and I am very guilty of going over my 2 cans of Diet Dew a day limit.
I DETEST with a passion, listening to the things you mentioned. Boyfriend number 293, 349 for the year has dumped them, listening to the girls talk about how stoned they are when they get to work, watching them get trashed at work and making everyone in the bar look like an ass....on and on.
And even know as I type this, all I can do is think about that crap and shake my head.

Fantasia- You don't have to work in a strip joint to be
exposed to "Jerry Springer" types. The dancers I know
have fairly well developed sense of sel(f) and are not
into self-destructive behaviors. Part of it I'm sure is that the places I frequent tend to attract both higher class
dancers & customers. NYC lends itself to anonymity so
that it's easier for PhD. candidates to dance on the side and what have you. But I've met healthy well-adjusted
dancers in N.J., Fla., Atlanta,S.Carolina & Canada too.
To be sure, SOME dancers have serious personal problems but it's neither fair nor accurate to generalize.

I'm reading the replies most of you have written and it sounds all to familiar! a snob? picking on her cuz she picked the name "carrie bradshaw"? is this all you people do is gang up on someone for picking a name (i got shit for picking the picture for the aviator) come on, let's be realistic. the club i work at has about 50 dancers let me sum them all up in catagories
1) THE TRAILER TRASH DANCERS: the dancers who come in scream at there boyfriends on the phone to make it look like they have there botfriends wrapped around there finger but go and hide in the bathroom and call them back and kiss there ass, they also bring there kids to work, or they do there laundry.
2) THE ONES WHO BITCH ABOUT NOT MAKING ANY MONEY: they sit at the bar all night, or with the same customer for 6 hours and get one dance, they take naps in the dressing room, then when the night is over they cry because they didn't make any money.
3) THE ALCOHOLIC: self explainitory
4) the 150 pounder/ ugly one's: they are dancing why?

Well, I don't fit into any of the categories...I make a lot of money every night. If I take a break sometime during the evening, I call my SO and say hi and tell him to give our sleeping daughter a kiss for me. I don't drink, don't do drugs, don't air my laundry at work, don't bring my daughter to work...and, I don't weigh a 150 pounds...so, where would I fit? I go to work, make lots of cash, don't bitch, drink, or shoot up.
By the way...the stink was about your avatar...not your aviator...unless I missed that post. :D
I personally hate people who LUMP, or shall I say, STEREOTYPE dancers as any category. Darkness, this is the second post of yours which "lists" dancers as a certain "kind"
Which one, in your list, are you?

Hmmm.. let's see. You are perfect. Well good fucking whoop-te-do for you. That means what? Oh yeah, it means that you have no faults? Or, perfect meaning a perfect ass to put down just about everyone, make absolute ridiculious suggestions on how to get a dance (see the "I'll get your cock as hard as a rock" post).. the more and more I read your bullshit, the more I think you are a man. No dancer I have ever worked with or met has EVER had this type of attitude. MAN MAN MAN you are!
I'm 147 so I suppose I fit into the 150 category, I'm also a money maker in my club, so I guess I should quit because I am a bit bigger than industry standards? WTF-ever. Its people like you who make me sick with your stereo-typical psycho- babble. Perhaps if you were a dancer (which is proving to me over and over again that you have a penis between your legs.. as NO ONE has yet to see a photo of you) and your attitude is as many as I see each and every night from larger than life egos. :dunce:
Give us all a break. We've heard it all and then some. We are definately not stupid.

I was talking to a gut last night at work, and i tpold him that all these dancers on here think that i am a man.Let me ask you a few things
1) what possible gratification could i possibily get out posing as someone else? aman at that?
2) ginger you stated "NO DANCER I HAVE EVER WORKED WITHOR MET HAS HAD THIS TYPE OF ATTITUDE" well haven't you met anyone with different views on things? or does EVERYONE you know go with the flow? How boring if all of your friends think exactly like you.the difference between ME and most of you is that I have a different view on how a dancer should be. No i do NOT let a man touch me in between my legs, that is one of very few things that i will not tolerate! My views are completely different than most of you, when i say certain things that are out of this world to you you quickly come up with " darkness is a man" no darkness is not a man, just a dancer who loves being a dancer, if you can't except the fact that I am a bit more racy than you, then there is nothing i can do about it. just realize that everyone thinks and acts different.

More"Categories" again? I didn't know that the "Perfect Dancer" category included dancers who whine to their customers at work about how other dancers (she's never even met before) think she's a man. That's some pretty impressive dialogue, the customer must have been really turned on. We should all sign up for some Perfect Dancer classes, and maybe you could teach us some more really stellar techniques. Actually just save us the time and write a book, "Darkness's Three Categories on How to Become a Perfect Dancer; A Man's Perspective." :geezer:

Actually, I do believe in being different, it is just that your views seem a bit more manish than the norm. I've been dancing for 8 years on and off, and I have been around the club scene. I've met many dancers, some which do fit in the category of "drama queens" etc..
I've never met a dancer who has had an attitude like yours. Perfect? I highly doubt. Full of yourself? more than likely.
Stating that you are perfect is exactly why I think that you are a man. That statement along with the 150 pounders--WTF? I tell you what..I don't look like I"m 147, and there are girls much heavier who are actually SMALLER in size because of their workout routines.. Weight has no baring as long as the girls can move and look good. Another reason why I think you are man.
I don't like to judge, however, after all your posts, and now this one about you complaining to your customers about this site, I'm scratching my head wondering why you bother with us so much. I mean really, I know of NO dancer that would do the things you've suggested, unless of course, they are dirty and desperate. Two things I am not... Maybe some girls whom have long time regulars could get away with such statements etc.. but for the most part, I think not.
I don't speak to my customers about this site or any other personal issue I have with anyone or anything. Business is business. Whining is not an option for me. I question that you are a dancer, unless you'd like to inform us all where we can catch your next stage performance and I"d be happy to book myself a ticket to see you front row and center, which then I'd be more than happy to apologize for my assumptions of thinking of you as being a man.
If your book comes out, please reserve a copy for me. I've still got lots to learn, and I am far from perfect.

OMG I don't even know where to start!
Not even a job??? I treat this as a business, so much in fact that my regular customers can distinguish between the girls in my club who are out for a good time and the ones who have a head on their shoulders... and the ones with the attitude of treating it like a business are the ones that they like and spend money on. The ones who are there to have a good time, they get them all drunk and stupid so that they can try and take them home, and don't even bother spending any money on them other than the drinks that they bought them to see if they could get in their pants.
These are usually the girls who are out to have a good time who NEVER have anything to show for their work because they have either spent it all on frivilious un-necessary things, or those who have drinking problems and other problems. And then at the end of the night, they are bitching because they made no money.. and why? Because they were having too good of a time with Joe Schmo who bought them all the tequila they wanted and wait! They got his phone number cause he's so hot and all (Like he'll ever call them back)... I've seen it all, heard it all and yes, it can be fun, but its a job. I never lose my tact and I would never allow myself to become so out of sorts that I ended up wasting my time with someone who was just out for a good time and only spent a few bucks on me.
I am way better than that crap and I weed those men out, so I guess I'm probably not normal in your book Darkness, however, I make excellent money. So I'm not sure why I would not treat this as a job. We are definately NOT there for just a good time. A few laughs, a drink or two, but if they ain't bought a dance from me after the first drink, I politely excuse myself and move on. Business is business.

treating it like a buisness? what do you wear a suit and tie everyday to work? sorry to point this out to you but you stated that "my regular customers can distinguish between the girls in my club who are out to have a good time and the ones who have a good head on there shoulders and the one with the attitude of treating it like a buisness are the ones they spend money on" to me that's a bunch of B.S! the men who walk through the door aren't there for the ones with the "good head on there shoulders" they're there for the dancers who are having a good time, because they know they will have a good time. do you really think that a guy looks at us with respect? NO! we are taking are clothes off for them, we are definitly not marriage material to them, we are looked at like sex objects. you just sound so funny to me "buisness is buisness" ha ha ha. I don't consider any strip club a "buisness". I consider it going to a bar 3-4 times a week and having a good time. I consider a buisness working at a desk 5 days a week dressed for success. dancing by no means is a job.

give me a break, lighten up ladies. don't look at it like it's a job! it's really not. we're at a bar, meeting new people everyday, taking breaks when we want o, smoking a cig whenever we want, having the option to have a couple of cocktails, getting 20$ for three minutes of dancing which i consider exercise, leaving when we want, working when we want, that to me IS NOT A JOB, it's a good time.
I drive 75 miles to and from the club every day. If I am late, I look unprofessional. If I leave early, I get in trouble. I work at a juice bar, so I don't drink. I do not smoke. We are on a set schedule and expected to show up for our shifts. I spend money to buy sexy outfits and spend an hour and a half grooming myself to look clean, classy and approachable.
Yes, I can sit down and talk to a customer whenever I want. Yes, I COULD sit in the dressing room all night and talk on my cell phone or eat. I could do that with a "regular" job as well, with the same result- I wouldn't make any money.
This doesn't sound like a job to you? I'm sorry, but it's certainly a job to me. I'm not trying to be rude here, but looking at it as just a party isn't going to make you any money. Of course it's not a conventional job, and it can be a lot more enjoyable at times. I've only been stripping a week, but it's definitely my favorite job so far. It's also the job I've cared about keeping most. I've never tried harder to make a good impression on management, be on time and present myself well.
Isn't there a thread about stripping being a job, not a lifestyle? Darkness, with all due respect, maybe you should re-read that. It's awesome that you have fun at work, but it IS just that- work.

Darkness, I think you and I will continue to debate until the ends of the earth on this issue. So I will simply state, that dancing is a job. And, the men at my club and prior clubs I have worked at, all have enjoyed my company, my time and have paid me well.
I have three business accounts: Household, expenses and medical. I do my taxes, I have a 1099 form every year. Its a business. Its a job, and it pays my bills. Yes, from time to time I have fun, but its a job. If it wasn't a job, I wouldn't be getting paid.
Peace out.

ehhh....whatever
Carrie (if you're not a troll....) -- I'm not dancing anymore, but still involved a little bit in the adult industry. (VERY little, but whatever). Anyway, I've got a college degree, summa cum laude, from a top-notch university, and planning to go back for a masters soon. Lots of girls I've met in both the clubs and the rest of the adult industry are of above-average intelligence.
On the other hand, I've also met some ding-bats in strip clubs. As it happens, I've met some ding-bats who work at Starbucks. I've met some dingbats who work in offices. See the pattern? I'll tell you this much, though -- the girls who SURVIVE in the clubs and the other aspects of the industry are NOT dingbats. You couldn't be and survive in this biz for very long.
One other thing: If you met ME in a club, you'd prolly think I was right out of the jerry springer memorial trailer park. Why? For a couple of reasons. First, when I work in a club, I turn part of my life OFF and part of it back ON. It's a mindset, and frankly a very relaxing one.
Anyway..... my two cents worth

I have an accounting degree with a 3.7 GPA and when I was a junior in college I was nominated to apply for the Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford. It is a very high honor plus I was Beta Gamma Sigma which is a national honor society. I hated accounting so I decided to become a dancer. People always think Im stupid, especially a lot of the men I dance for. The funny thing though is that although you may hear the same "dumb" talk in strip clubs, by far some of the dumbest statements I have ever heard in my life I have heard from the top students at the university that I went to. Dont let strip club dressing room small small talk fool you, many dancers are smarter than people give them credit for, and while many are uneducated, often streetsmarts can make up for lack of booksmarts.
Dancing is not a job? So why do we PAY to work there and HAVE to pay the dj? Why does the club get some of our money? You "work" the bar, you "work" your customers, and you "work" you skills. Sounds like a darn job to me!

This is bizarre. Dancing is a JOB. There are rules you must go by when you are dancing at a sc. You must look and act the part, just like you do if you are a receptionist working 9 to 5. JOB JOB JOB. End of story.
I guess since its not a job, there arent requirements and such. I mean, they cant choose WHO and can NOTcan work there too right?
I mean, considering its not a job and just a place to hang out. We cant have the clubs discriminating against ANYONE now can they? ::)
Can you imagine walking into a club and trying to audition and saying to the manager, "Hey..I'm not here to work. This isnt a job! I'm here to have fun and hang out!"
