I've heard worse, and it sounds like Delilah which is one of the best names ever if it's the right girl. But not as good. It means honey bee though.

Speaking of names, is Zola a reference to Emile Zola, author of Nana?

No, it was an alias used by Marilyn Monroe. :)

Cool, I never knew that. I wonder if that's what she meant by it--or if someone else suggested it maybe. Nana is a very interesting novel by zola, about an exotic dancer in 19th century France. She rapidly dominates and destroys any and all men who cross her path, but has a bad end dying horribly with smallpox.

Jazzy

Maybe your Jazzy didn't fit the name (that alone can make a name ridiculous), but I worked with a Jazzy who made it look fantastic, I never thought anything wrong with her name at all. Excellent booty shaker also, though that's beside the point.

That sounds really interesting. I'll have to do some reading on her after I finish my big freaking stack of books waiting to be read. :)

Damn that's hot...

Sorry, I love literate strippers. There have been so few of them in the clubs I've worked--and not many literate male staff either, for that matter :D

I have very carefully developed a reputation for being strictly non-pervish in the dressing room, but whenever I have seen a dancer reading a book back there I am on them like a hawk, wanting to know what they are reading, etc.

Does she not realise that Poseidon was a god (hence male) and there is no way in hell Poseidon could be a female? Unless it was a male dancer?

Oh, it's a female dancer. Her club has some real winners, including Kiwi (who is NOT from new Zealand) and Kash.

SoBlessed...I'm not kidding and another one from the city of Brotherly Love: KNOWLEDGE yeah...:rotfl: What the hell is in the water over here? I have never seen so many bad names concentrated in one area. Then I was at another suburban club..met a really cool bi racial goth chick, really pretty. She introduced herself as "Odie". I thought she said "Odin" like the Norse god. I checked the roster at the DJ booth. Nope it said "Odie" as in Garfield.:O

Maybe she was trying to copy Echo Johnson who was a Playmate maybe 10 years ago & has a website still I think?? It is a weird name.

Pocahontas, believe it or not, is actually an excellent choice for a stripper name!

It was almost certainly a derivative of the word 'paco' which meant penis. Her name thus meant 'Little Cock Tease', and she was known to entertain the miserable colonists by doing a series of flips and tumbling down the main street...naked.

Forget Disney, they butchered history to turn it cute. The legend of her saving the one guy from execution was almost certainly that--a legend. She wasn't a princess, but just another daughter of the chief, albeit one with some apparent notoriety. However, she did at one point contribute to diplomatic efforts between Indians and Colonists, by arranging for a wigwam staffed by a willing maiden for each negotiator.

Hmm, I thought it was in this excellent book--but now I can't find her name in any searches associated with it: http://www.amazon.com/Intimate-Sex-Lives-Famous-People/dp/1932595295 So it might have been in another historical expose type book.

I will keep looking for the source. Its been a while since I read it, but I remember that stuff clearly.

While searching I found literature referencing the possibility that she really may have saved Smith's life--but he added the story later, at a time convenient to promote her arrival in England--and also told a similar story of the same thing happening in Turkey. In other words the story is suspect--Smith may have been a bit of a bullshitter. They were certainly not lovers, unless he was a child molester. I found several sources in the google search with her name given as meaning 'little wanton'.

ETA--this appears to be a fairly definitive bibliography concerning Pocahontas, with much greater reliance on original sources and less on quasi-mythological fare:
