A.n.a.l.a.- "Following the crowd" as you put it i.e. get
one because "everyone else is getting one" is NOT
a valid reason to get a tattoo. As far as being a "rite
of passage"- maybe, but it still seems silly to me. I've
never understood why women want to look like sailors
and truck drivers.
It's true that piercing and tattoos have been around
for a long time but so what? So has slavery. Why
borrow from primitive cultures. BTW- if tats are so great-
Why hold back ? Why not get one on your face or the
palms of your hand ?
I don't know whether they'll become more acceptable
in the future but today they still mark the bearer as
"lower-class".

Lower class is in the eye of the beholder, as well as the actions of behavioree. I don't want one on my face or the back of my hand, that's why I dont have any there. I have a beautiful tat on my leg, it's a phoenix, which I feel symbolizes my life. I thought long & hard about it long b/4 work was done, never regretted it yet. I have a piercing too. Ships ahoy matey. Haven't driven a truck yet, (not commercialy) but a former dancer friend does, heard she banks.

Whirlerz- To each his or her own. Undoubtedly many
people find them attractive. For the most part I do not.
Once in a while I see a small one on an ankle or lower
back ( IMHO the ONLY places a real "lady" should EVER
get one ) that I have to admit looks cute and/or ADDS
something to the woman's appearance.
The real issue and ( to me ) the only point really worth
discussing is whether a tattoo "says" something
NEGATIVE about the person- right , wrong, fair or unfair. I agree that it ought not. The kindest, most
decent and honest person in the world could have one.
AFAIK Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Idi Amin never did.
Unfortunately, I'm human and when I see one or
more on an attractive woman I have to admit that
it gives me pause. I've managed to personally evolve
to the point where my immediate reaction is not
automatically negative about the PERSON i.e. I give
them the opportunity to "surprise me" but it's still
not a point in her favor. And from what I've seen on
dancers, 95% should get their money back- some of
the tats are that bad.

I have one tat... its on my lower back (not in the typical place).. its so low that the point of the tatoo is right above my ass crack- I got this done before the lower back was popular, the artist and I placed it there because we thought it was high enough.

However, it is not, but I get lots of compliments on it, and its small and in a different place than everyone else's.

I designed it and I had it hanging on my bathroom mirror for 2 years before I had it done.

I want another one.. this time something way different- I want a small pin up girl from WWII era on the back of my shoulder.. i love the "Betty" art.. and I'd like to have one of a girl, in an oldfashioned bikini with red hair... but, I have not yet done it- Probably will wait another year to see how I feel about it.

Attached is my tat- I took it with my camera phone- sorry about the quality.

I have none myself, and I can't think of anything I love so much that I'd want a picture of it on my bod, but then it is my bod so I can do what I want with it ... This is another one of those personal things that has absolutely no impact on anyone else. Who cares if someone else does or doesn't have a tat? It is just completely silly to me to get negative about it either way. If you want one, great, get it. If you don't, great, don't.

StarDogChampion- Please do me a favor and re-read
what I posted concerning tattoos.
1. I did NOT "reduce" a woman who gets inked to anything. Tats are a matter of personal choice, taste
and preference AND so is MY reaction to THEM. In my
experience, mature women with positive self-images
do NOT get tattoos unless they really want one
for themselves.
2. You are absolutely right about truckers and sailors
and I support your right to adorn yourself in a way
similar to working class men. I don't understand WHY
you would want to but please feel free.
3. I never said you were "low class" BUT "high class"
women, including strippers, generally do not have
tattoos and if they do they tend to be small and
discreetly placed.
4.Some "rich" people have tattoos. Almost no "wealthy"
person does. The real movers and shakers of this world
do NOT get them and if that's what you aspire to, I
would reccomend NOT getting one.
5. I am respectful to every woman I meet. Even the
"Tattooed Lady" form a circus freak show is entitled
to respect and I NEVER posted anything contrary.
6. If you REALLY read what I posted then you'd know
that while a tattoo on a woman is still not a point in
her favor AFAIC, I have evolved to the point where
I try to focus on the PERSON and have often been
able to completely ignore some pretty bad artwork on her body.Which leads me to-
7. To me, women who want to get a tat are like men
who want to wear a toupee- If you're going to do it,
at least get a good one.

As far as other folks' opinions of my tattoos go, I could care less. I truly believe that if I've alienated someone because of my body mods, that person wasnt worth knowing. I know that I'm guilty of being turned off by someone because of their ink before I've spoken a word to them. It happens...we make snap judgements everyday.
(isn't that smiley cute!)

Wow. Tattoos. I am completely intrigued by them, in all forms. I have one large tribal tattoo on my chest, which has always gotten me a lot of questions, and definitely acts as an ice breaker... Also, black stars on my hip bones, and kanji in between, that only show when nude, that read "Lucky You".... that is another one that egts a TON of comments, and questions... customers are usually thrilled to know what it means... and sicne it is in Japanese, if I want to say it means something else, I can....

Personally, I do not know why it should matter to anyone except the person who is getting the tattoo. If you get one because you are a dumbass and everyone else has one so you want one, then so be it.

I think tattoos on a guy is extremely sexy, on a woman- if they fit the person inside the skin. I have 4 tattoos and most people don't know until I show a little skin. On my left ankle I have the New York Yankees interlocking NY logo...my absolute favorite...a tribal butterfly on my right lower hip...the egyptian ankh on my lower back and a small tribal piece above the ankh. They are all black and white...but I love all of them!

As a patron of clubs in Houston, IMO, a dancer who does not have any visable tattoos has no disadvantage -- I have never heard anyone say "if she had a tattoo, she would be more attractive."

As dancers you are in the business of sales with the product being the personna you create when you are working to provide entertainment. While a tattoo may be a turn on to some customers, it will also be a turn off to other customers. The customer's who are turned on by a tattoo, won't be turned off if you dont have a tattoo. Therefore, from a business perspective, it would appear that the best business advice to any dancer would be to appeal to as many customers as possible.

While tattoos are not an automatic turn off, they can be and I spend $200 on someone else.

Just my 2 cents.....

Some tats are friggin sexy, like the young ladys picture of her chest.
But take away the tat,and she will still be friggin sexy, the tat didnt add to that imo.
If it were up to me,along with boyfriends, husbands, pimps, and drug dealers,99% of all asshole tat "artist"should be banned from the clubs.
Most suck and are just looking to mark a woman in the club so they can get more work from the other girls.
Even the die hard tat lovers who get them to mark events in their life will have to admit.MOST tats dont rep anything but a drunken night or a boyfriend who wanted to mark his territory or jail time.
Nobody ever listens to me when i give advice, but im gonna try again...

Wait till your entertainer career is over before you get a tat.

P.S. why would someone get tribal art done if they aint in that tribe???
why would someone who is irish get a oriental tat??
My guess is that MOST people who get tats regret getting them later in life.

I have one tattoo, a pair of wings on my back. They are not big. Each wing is four inches long and look like small cherub wings that are extended. The first primary feather just barely peaks over my shoulder, and I've been told that's very sexy. They also represent a huge time in my life that I should never forget. That said they are the last tattoos I will be getting for some time, but not the last.

Why is a thread from 2004 being resurrected? If you want to start a topic about tattoos, then start one, don't dig back into ancient history with several people who don't even post anymore.
