So, I am lost and fucked up in the head for supporting my country? Right...I may be a little extreme in my beliefs about 911 however, I see that you all seem to have forgotten that day.
9/11 was a tragic event that effected many ppl AROUND THE WORLD. I am not an American citizen but my fiance is and my immediate family members are... My mother was on her NYC trip the day it happened, she was flying back from JFK that very day.... my uncles were trapped in NYC when the towers fell ( they work there ) it was one of the most frightning times of my life. I was all the way across the other side of the world, the phone lines were down, i knew my mum was expected to be at the JFK airport, i knew my uncles were working not to far from the towers ...but i was here, i was all by myself watching NYC get blown up on TV. Luckily i didn't loose any of my loved ones but i know ppl who did.... It was disturbing.
However 9/11 has nothing to do with this. Irag had nothing to do with blowing up the twin towers.... so how you can use that to justify killing a whole nation, is beyond me.
Seraya.

Slander implies that the information is untrue. How can you (or anyone) debate this film as being untrue if you have not seen it? How do you know it's not true? Especially if you admit you are not well informed about the political issues involved. ???
I suggest you see it and then research the things you feel are false and find out for yourself.

What do you mean "we did not want to " It is the top grossing documntary ever ::) That seems like alot of support to me. Also as already mentioned Moore's description of Americans is EXACTLY how many non US persons see us .
I'm glad you will study up though, I hope you will gain a better perspective of things from doing so.
By the way also I thought the thing with Heston was over the top too but not the thing with Kmart.

oooooooo, remember the girl who had two degrees before? she was a smart one.
my q to big d is, what schools do you have these degrees from? what type of degrees are they? and what is the major (and minors/concentrations if applicable) on each degree?
so far i must say im quite impressed with your level of schooling. it certainly shows in your posts. your ability to quote the dictionary is impecable, so that all of us who are clueless as to the meaning of ignorance can see how it applies to you. well played!
if age = wisdom and therefore is the only gauranteur of respect, does that mean that the older gentlemen in their 50s and 60s are the only ones whos opinions views matter? since the difference between 50 and 30 (20 years) is much greater than the difference between 30 and 20(10 years, for those who dont have atleast two degrees in advanced mathematics), would that mean that your opinion is completely invalid? or does the world revolve around you like it does me?

who are you calling a bitch :o
your quote doesn't include the name of the person you are commenting to-- and I hardly think it's envy. Many europeans and Canadians see us that way and what would they be envious of ?
Moore's description of Americans is on target to what many, many people outside the States think of Americans. I travel abroad almost monthly and can testify to that from personal experience.

Ignorant is hardly a term that describes me AinNY. Coming from a 24 year old kid, character assaults on my statements carry little importance. However, I will accept being called bull-headed. As you all have tried to ram your beliefs down my Pro-Bush throat (ewwww...) I have in turn tried to do the same.
Im not even going to respond to this...you make yourself look ignorant and dumb all on your own. I do not need to explain it for anyone...everyone sees it.

No one is calling Jim a bitch. How did you possibly get that from the post?
Envy, demonstrated by other nations (the implied indirect object of the sentence) toward the US, is the subject of the sentence. If I were to reduce myself to the level of ad hominem attacks that are becoming disturbingly prevalent here in this thread, I would have said, "Jim is an envious, right bitch."
Many europeans and Canadians see us that way and what would they be envious of ?
If you have to ask this question, you might want to start another thread on balance of power politics.
No big movie producers wanted to produce this film is what I meant.
KMart did not have anything to do with Columbine. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered 11 kids, the bullets did not. My point is that he twists information to fit his agenda which was, through Columbine, gun control.
oh lord, does everything have to spelled out 4 u like a kindergarden child...... u r WRONG about the production companies ! U really don't know squat about any of this do u ?
The following come from http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/27/box.office.ap/
Conservative groups sought to discourage theaters from showing it
Lions Gate and IFC came on board after Disney refused to let subsidiary Miramax release "Fahrenheit 9/11" because of its political content. Miramax bosses Harvey and Bob Weinstein bought back the film
Republican groups tried to use CENSORSHIP
the point the Kmart thing Big D is that anyone could buy as many bullets as they wanted from Kmart.... as in stock pile ammo in one single shopping trip ..... girl I swear for someone who says they have a degree and are in the top % of all educated Americans u sure come across as tremendously dense :dunce:
No u don't get it..... u don't get any of this stuff, u have no clue about this movie and zero grasp about this war either.

That is probably the first alliteration that you have made in years. It is as pointless as most of what you have said. When viewing a criticism you look to the source. When the source is irrelevant, so is the criticism.
D
I have two things to say to you Big D (and they are not meant to be mean). 1) learn how to use the quote feature. By not using it correctly, you make your posts hard to read. 2) Do you know what alliteration is? If so, where was it used, because my English Major (Magna Cum Laude) eyes must have missed it.

Pronunciation: 'ig-n(&-)r&nt
Function: adjective
1 a : destitute of knowledge or education <an ignorant society>; also : lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified <parents ignorant of modern mathematics> b : resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence <ignorant errors>
I may lack information about some political issues however, I have three degrees, one with honors.
You are right Tigerlilly, I have no right to assertate that any girl on this board has any less of a life that I do.

That quote sure sounds like bad-mouthing America in the most liberal paper-of-record in America.
Thanks for posting that, Monty! Could you post a link to the editorial? Better yet, what I would like to find is the entire text of the Munich speech.
I am not convinced of Michael Moore's virtue, objectivity, or modesty, but I am convinced that GWB has little or none of these qualities, either. And I think GWB has done far more to damage the reputation of the USA than Moore could do with several dozen speeches like this one.
And without the full text of the speech it is impossible to tell whether Moore is merely criticising all Americans, without praising any others, or just a certain breed of Americans we all know exists. This may not be particularly good for our image, and I agree that the wisdom of such a move is questionable, but it is largely questionable because there is a gigantic wave of hostility directed towards our country for what the rest of the world perceives as totally unjustified aggression.
There are huge numbers of people in this country who allow themselves to be sucked into their boobtubes to the extent that we have cultural phenomenon like the Olsen Twins, or much worse, Michael Jackson. Though it's not very nice of MM to remind everyone of this, it is true.
I want to see this speech text.

What you show is zero grasp of the oppostion. We are dealing with a society who teaches its children to hate, that the highest gift they could give is their life accompanied by the destruction of the enemy, us. To not grasp this fundamental concept is to completely misunderstand the enemy. They would do anything they could to bring about our destruction. They view anything less than this to be weakness. We are limited by an idea that dictates that we play by rules ignored by those we oppose. If they possessed our weaponry, we would not be having your excursion into Sophistry, they would be dancing on our graves.
You're still not grasping it Big D, what you're describing are Islamic fundamentalist terrorists, not Iraqi's, there's a difference, Islamic fundamentalist terrorists are responsible for 9/11, Iraqi's are not. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend?

An entire society? I'm not quite sure about that. How many people of Middle-Eastern descent do you personally know? I am guessing the number is none, or very few. Not counting the guy who sells you beer at the convenience store ::). I could be wrong though.
Do ever woneder WHY they want to bring about out destruction? I'll let you post your opinion before I post mine. I'll give you a clue though: it's NOT "because we love freedom". If that were the case they would have attacked the Netherlands or Sweden.
It's not a good idea to dismiss one's views based on age. I respect wisdom that comes with life experience, but I'm 26, have a BA from one of the nation's top 15 Universities and have traveled extensively. My (admittedly very strong) opinions come from many sources and experiences.
You talk about your life experience, but one can be in their 80's and just be old without knowing jackshit if they never leave their front porch. You say you have several degrees, which is great, but have you ever LEFT Texas, interacted with people from different backgrounds and cultures than yours? I understand not everyone has the financial means to travel, but at least be curious about the world around you.
I have no issue with people whose opinions differ from mine, as long as they come from an informed place. Your views appear reactionary and parroted from Rush Limbaugh Bill O'Reilly and therefore uninformed. You have exhibited much emotion and little fact in your posts.

No one I would hope is so niave that they would believe there is no connection between Iraq and Al Quaida. THe fact that Iraq did not specifically sponser the horrors of 911 does not mean they didn't provide an environment for Al Quaida to be safe, grow, and to plan further destruction. The commissions findings were limited as was their focus and their message does us a disservice by not recognizing an obvious link.
Civil disobedience, as with any comment, has to be taken into context. While the right to disagree is fundamental, there are circumstances which render it both impractical and destructive. Wartime of it's nature creates special circumstances. Those circumstances require conduct out of the ordinary. This country was founded on an ability to disagree but war calls for those with the intelligence to disagree to excersise responsible restraint for the same goal that is preservation of the circumstances which allow this disagreement.
Remember, the Iraq's would spare not a minute in destroying us if they had the ability.

hmmmmmm, interesting the talk now of civil disobediance. ofcorse, the "discourse on civil disobedience" was over taxes..... taxes that thoreau didn't want being used on an unjust(in his mind) war with mexico. often times it is about war.
Big D, you completely skirted all my questions about your degrees. i understand though, you've got a lot of people asking you questions. here they are again:
Where did you get each degree? what type is each degree? and what was the major (as well as any possible minors, concentrations, etc) on each degree? THANKS!
and im disapointed that someone with your intelligence couldn't comprehend my little age bit. i dind't post a "ten year age cap". i effectively stated that you are ten years older than ain and i, which in your words meant that you had all the wisdom and experience and that we had none, simply due to your age. my philisophical question is (since there is no way anyone could ever argue this with fact, logic or any type of reason due to its imbecillic nature) does that mean that our members in their 50s and 60s are far more wise than you and have much more life experience than you, that it invalidates your thoughts? this would hold true if you have the ability to laud your wisdom mearly from age over the heads of those slightly younger than you. i proposed a much larger age difference(as does exist on this board), under the impression from your post that wisdom and intelligence from experience grows exponentially(possibly linear growth? i dont know, you tell me). so the difference in wisdom between a 24 year old and 34 (or whatever) year old would be approximately 1/6 (*editted from 1/8* my mistake. im basing this off a base two logarithmic growth scale) as large a gap as the difference between a 34 year old and a 54 year old. since my views are completely invalidated due solely to my age, this would clearly state that your views are invalidated due to your age since those in their 50s still do exist on this site.
Now, to those who blame kmart for selling ample supplies of bullets...i can't stand people like you. what ever happened to responsibility? ill tell you what happened: soccer moms decided that responsibility was a burden and instead of taking responsibility for their actions and teaching their children to take responsibility for what they chose to do, we've substituted responsibility with law. now, as long as their is no law, you're not wrong. AND as there is no recourse to wrong action, unless punished by law. there is no reason why any of us shouldn't be able to purchase weapons or ammunition in any quantity we desire. the purchasing of said weapons or ammunition does not equal the slaughter of large groups of people. punish the criminals, not the vendors. you can kill people with knives too you know, but for some reason, nobody is up in arms about restaurants putting them on tables. yes, a firearm gives the user the ability to harm more people than a knife, but its not the firearm that makes the person kill. it is the murderer themselves. we were supposedly founded on liberty, its something i hold dear, but see slipping away more and more as time passes. im often told that "if i dont like this country, i should move to cuba." i dont like this country because i see it becoming more and more like cuba everyday. i call upon all those who detest liberty, to move to cuba and leave one nation for me.
continuing on. the worlds view on america and the role of this film. its no secret that the world is displeased with the usa. its no secret that middle easterners dont care much for the usa. for those of us who have seen this film, we are the only ones able to even remotely conclude what the fallout of this film will be. i propose that this film would actually be good to show the world in an effort to get the world to "stop hating the us." this film shows 1.) the us government as evil. 2.) a multitude of us citizens extremely displeased with their government. 3)a multitude of us citizens not living extravigantly, infact, quite the opposite.
from seeing this, i would expect that a lot of those extremists that hate us and teach others to hate us could easily formulate the opinion that their hatred of us wasn't wrong. HOWEVER, their target of hatred should only be the us government, as the us people are clearly in opposition to its oppressive rule. people who dislike us, are possibly going to shift their dislike off the people and solely on the government.
i hope people actually read this post.

There was no connection found or proven between Iraq and Al Qaeda. It was Afghanistan that sponsored their training camps. The only "proof" we have of an Iraq/ Al Qaeda connection is the word of Bush and his cabinet. Read "against All Enemies" by the Right's favorite Disgruntled Employee Richard Clarke. This man's credentials are unimpeachable and have been substantially supported by others with similar credentials.
And didn't we go to war with Iraq supposedly BECAUSE they had the capability to destroy us and were an imminent threat? You just shot yourself in the foot there big time. With K-Mart bullets.

I haven't added to this thread so far since I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will say this much: Big D didn't even have to do any research of her own since people listed quite a few links for her. All she had to do was read the information presented. Obviously she didn't, but then again why would she? If she did she'd have to admit she was wrong about numerous statements that she made in this saga.

I just think everyone needs to chill.
Too much fucking anger in the world as it is. Personally, i don't agree with Dallas' politics, but i think she's a cool chick nonetheless. Melonie, and another girl (who i'm forbidden from mentioning her politics) are also cool chicks. I lean to the left, but i don't despise the right. That shit is like being mad at someone because they say it might rain and it doesn't.

LOL Madcap....it's one thing if they say it's gonna rain and it doesn't....what pisses me off is when the stupid weather man says it WON'T rain and then it DOES! Then I end up getting soaked! I hate those weather people!!!

Hi all....
I saw this movie tonight in Boston. The first show I wanted to see at 10 was sold out...I saw it at 11.
Boston is a very diverse town...many saudi, asian, european, etc. So here we all are together watching this movie...about our countries destroying each other.
Politics is something I never argue with people, I respect other opinions...I listen, maybe I'll be educated.
When this movie was over people stood up and clapped. It was amazing. It makes your own problems feel so small in comparison, and so greatful there are people with pride for this country.
But whats sad is after the hype dies down people forget. We get lazy. We have to remember this is our country, we make the difference. We vote. Or do we?
I will register to vote. I think our country deserves a better chance...we deserve to know the truth and not live in fear. Losing as many soilders as we did in Vietnam? That's scary.
I'm sure this movie was edited creatively, and Moore has an agenda of his own...but those words of arrogance and stupidity came from Bush's mouth.
If this movie was so far off from the truth you wouldn't be allowed to see it still. It would be slander, defamation of character, and many other charges I may not be aware of...
If they try to pass laws about speaking out against your president (like was mentioned in an earlier post) it's because we the people do have power in our words. Our country was founded that way...has it taken us that long to realize?
I honestly feel bad for Bush...this is a terrible term for him (beside his vacations) I don't just dislike Bush, I'm mostly coming to realize I'm a Democrat.
And I'm going to vote.
Thanks for letting me rant...

This thread is waaaaay too long! But I have to add this because I've seen this movie twice. And tonight my sister and I had a talk about our friends and family getting deployed. She went to see two of her pals tonight that are shipping out to Iraq tommorrow. What comes to mind is all the sad stories I've heard from people twice my age who had brothers, boyfriends or friends ship out to Vietnam and never come home.
We're in too deep with Iraq. We just can't leave now. I feel that Kerry is capable of making better decisions than Bush in regards to war policy. WTF does Bush know about war? That he won't run out of poor kids to fight it?
I was chilled by Moore ending the documentary with a quote from George Orwell's "1984." Seriously, that's where it is now.
