Perhaps I am remembering the posts incorrectly - but I don't recall anyone saying that most black people played the "race card". What I recall reading was that many people were tired of seeing the race card pulled. There is a tremendous difference, and a great leap to "most of you see it that way".

just got done reading this...thread...
based on most of the posts here...all i can say is...damn...we don't want to do better?...etc...well...if that's how most of you think...and if that's your view of me...a black woman...then why the hell do i still come here...to a place where i'm viewed as a lazy whiner...deserving of the treatment that i get...no wonder most of the black dancers...that used to post regularly...don't have much to say anymore...i' don't either...after reading all of this...
Topaz, i remember posting on the first page my thoughts on racism. I post once on this subject, to share my opinions, since this isn';t a subject that will change any time soon, if someone is a racist i can't stop hiom or her. Myself i believe in judging people by what they DO rather than what they ARE.
Sorry you are so dissappointed, i hope i wasn;t part of that.

I agree StripperTips. To bad human beings don't work that way. :P
There's actually a lot of what you listed going on. But there is always the social friction. So I just take people on an individual basis and put them into the "nice people category" and the "a-hole" category. Those are the only groups I need to know about someone. :yuck:
"nice people category" and the "a-hole" category
Now this is progress...and I think there should be a campaign pushing for this sort of outlook on life.

Not true. In my post, I clearly did not point the finger at one race. I couldn't say about "most" because I don't know, as I don't know for whites either. I ALWAYS give EVERYONE a fair chance. I see each person as an individual. I was giving examples of why some groups are discriminated against.... because of thier actions (black bikers). However, I have NO idea what it is like to live life as a black female. So could I really say how much racism is in the world? No. But I do know that here in the south it is prevalent, although it is prevalent here for every other race, and group. Strippers here don't have it too easy either. Good point, but, in this case as well as for strippers, I think maybe a few bad apples spoil the bunch for a lot of people. Yes, it is racism, but I think that there are reasons behind a lot of people's attitudes from what I've experienced. (NOT me - I always see the person as an individual. I just live in the south. yeehaw dammit!) And not that I think it's right, I'm just making an observation.
And I do think some black people care, they show it through their actions. I was using myself as an example for people who have opportunities but they don't care enough to take them. It could be anyone.... not necessarily black people. You can't necessarily say that black people don't have similar opportunities.... but blacks and whites who live in poor conditions imo, just don't care enough to take them. It wasn't directed at any one group.

Topaz. I agree and I guess that was what I was trying to say. My point was pretty much that, very few "black" people just sit around and complain. The vast majority of American black people work hard, pay taxes, and deal with racism everyday while they are at work and don't say a peep about it. Yet too many whites do have a shit fit when ever anyone starts talking about race and then say "well I'm not racist, I have one black friend who is my coworker's friend's neighbor who I say "hi" to once a month or two."

What exactly is so disturbing about our posts? It isn't like anyone is saying "I hate all black people." Yea, minorities deal with racism. I deal with the fact that I'm a woman and a stripper on a daily basis..... which was the point of my post. Who said black people sit around and complain all day? No one, from what I can see. Some of them do, but so do some white people. If you ask me, you guys are taking what was said and turning it into something it's NOT. I find the fact that someone would not continue to post based on something someone said pretty damn wimpy, actually.

No, I wouldn't. I didn't see any of that stuff.... honestly, I stay out of racism threads generally because I think racism and stereotyping, including gossip, is stupid and unproductive. So I couldn't say why you might feel that way..... I was only basing that on what I see here, when there is obviously a past history of bullshit. So I retract my statement.... I have spent most of the past 9 years completely ignoring all cliquish behavior, gossip, and racist bullshit. It has worked for me. Live life the way you want to, and don't give a shit what anyone thinks. I'm very open-minded that way. I will talk to anyone, and in this small town that I live in, that leaves me with a bad rep. There are plenty of people here I think that don't think this way. And plenty of people who care about what you all have to say, so I really think it's sad if you guys quit posting because of a few..... a few bad apples spoil the bunch, eh?

My roommate last year at college was a "black" female. She is a very smart and kind person. Everyone assumed she just got in because of "affirmitive action" even though she held a gpa of 4.25 and had an SAT score of 1520.
This is EXACTLY why affermative action fails. Because minorities are given lower standards, it cheapens the worth of all. This girl probably did work her ass of, but employers will see her differently, because of todays affermative action standards. The idea of affermative action has been bastardised. What is should be doing is making sure that minorities have every opportunity to take a shot at college or employment. this means taking down barriors that would prevent them from getting their and showing that they can compete on their own merit. Let me re-phrase that COMPETE ON THEIR OWN MERIT. This means simply that minorities, along with everyone else, still need to do the work and make the grade. This bullshit of a second set of criteria, lower in skill just sells minorities short. It may give more minorities a slot in college or to get a job, but if they werent qualified in the first place, how can they succeed?

I have spent most of the past 9 years completely ignoring all cliquish behavior, gossip, and racist bullshit.
Well ET, i think you just answered your own question. The ppl who have stopped posting are doing what you do... "ignoring all cliquish behavior, gossip, and RACIST BULLSHIT!" ... but then you admitted that you don't even read the race threads.
I don't feel the community spirit with SW anymore. Ppl have to put up with stereotyping, predudice, discrimination and negativity in real world.... we don't need that shit here too.
The race threads aren't the only reason i don't post here much anymore.... there is just too much negativity here. Alot of my fav members don't post here anymore and more and more of the original members seem to be disappearing too.
It has nothing to do with being "wimpy".. what is the point in coming to a place you no longer enjoy that much.

Yea, I see your point, and did retract my statement, Seraya. Yea, I don't usually read the race threads, because I AM ignoring it. I just participate where I feel like participating.... and ignore negativity unless I feel like dealing with it. I believe I misunderstood, as in, I was doing what you do now from the beginning. I don't really expect anywhere to be full of people who are like I am at this point..... there are just too many close-minded, gossipy, stupid people in the world, and everytime I think I've found somewhere that isn't like this, I am disappointed. There ya' go.

It's like with rape, because a few women/girls might lie about it, whenever a women is raped she is almost always called a liar by everyone and no one ends up taking her seriously until 8 other women are raped. Most women who say they were raped are, very few really lie about it. But just because a few lie doesn't mean that every woman who says she is raped should be trivialized.
Sorry...this is not true anymore...maybe once upon a time, but now, rape is taken very seriously. The men are no longer innocent until proven guilty, but are guilty until proven innocent. That is why there are so many "rapists" behind bars. With all of the new technology we have these days, you would think that "false" rape would be declining...and slowly it is. Which is another reason why there have been quite a few men released from prison (after years and years) for a crime that was never committed. There are still of men who have their lives ruined because some woman screams rape when in all actuality, nothing happened.
Just because some people might over exaggerate things doesn't mean everyone or even a majority does. "Black" people still suffer from racism the most of any group and do get more hate crimes than any other group (you can look in the almanac for that.) Yes, of course there are "black" racists as well, but blacks are only 10% of the population of the United States. (Yes, just one in 10 americans.) Even if there were a proportionally equal number of "black" racists to "whites", "blacks" would still have to deal with more simply because of the numbers.
Racism is alive and well in the country.
Btw, I put race is quotes because like I said in my previous post, it really doesn't exist biologically speaking.
There is racism, bigotry, sexism, every ism you could ever imagine existing. The truth of the matter is simply this: The more you focus on it and give it power, the more power it will have over you. That does not mean to ignore it or pretend that it doesn't exist. What it does mean is to acknowledge it and then work a plan to get around it. The big problem is that the American "colors" (all races, ethnicities) have been coddled since birth. They believe that if their ancestors suffered any type of "bashing", then that makes them entitled to more money, etc, etc, etc. However, trying to correct mistakes, bloodshed, etc from the past only condems you to relive it on a daily basis. Not only will I not apologize for the actions of my grandparents--which I wouldn't need to since they came over much, much later--but, I will not demand that someone apologize for the actions of their ancestors. Let the past be. Yes, the "white" man has done some truly heinous and horribly upsetting things. But, we have come so far. To sit and try to live the past over, is just doing an injustice...to everyone. Look at the past, learn from the past, and then let it go. You can make so many changes for the positive, if you let go and move forward.
Life is life. The only difference is how you choose to color it.
What color is your life today?

...and why would i hang around people that think less of me...who automatically think that i'm not qualified to have the job that i have...or attend the college i attended...just because i'm a 'minority'...and need the 'powers that be' to cut me a break...because i obviously don't have the skills or the smarts...to do it on my own...

This is the point of those opposed to affirmative racism; it strips dignity from people or any race, perpetuates false sterotypes and creates doubt and uncertainty where there would otherwise be none in a merit-based system.

Well, I also usually avoid replying in such threads, but if this one is of any indication, the original question of how to end racism is clearly and sadly, mass genocide... which is obviously not a valid answer.
Ppl have to put up with stereotyping, predudice, discrimination and negativity in real world.... we don't need that shit here too.
I think this makes a big point, and the point being negativity is redundant in that sentence.
The way I see it- racism is just one of many forms of how human hate and negativity is packaged and dispensed in the world. Racism, discrimination, rudeness, misogyny, disrespectful behavior, etc.etc. I see each of these as simply ways people package up and distribute negativity in their lives, souls and inner beings to extinguish them out of themselves and onto others. This in turn creates a similar packaging and redistribution to it's recepients, and so on and so on, until it finds no one or is eventually extinguished.
If someone that has negativity in their lives is not exhaling that hatred or negativity in the form of racism, they are most likely doing it in another form, so all is the same. And not to go all 'Berkeley' on everyone, the true answer then simply lies in dispersed and widespread love and peace, which disintegrates all these things. The biggest racists are often transformed once happiness and prosperity enter their lives as it's extremely difficult to be truly hateful when filled with love and contentment. This is, of course, an impossible dream as there are many people that actually exist and feed on negativity and have chosen to make their lives consist of nothing but perpetual wallowing in and living off this.

So true.... almost ALL of us experience some sort of discrimination or racism. That's why you have to suck it up and continue to live your life and be a role model that defies the stereotypes.... regardless of what people think. You can moan and bitch about it, but what good does that do? And in the end, who really cares what they think? Your idea that this community was made of different stuff than what the world is made of was just a fantasy. No one here is going to stop me from posting because they disagree with me. There are plenty of people here who have NO IDEA where I'm coming from, and probably never will. As is the world. The difference is, you now know what they think, and if that bothers you, then that's your problem, honestly. No one should be able to get to you like that. I go over and argue with some of the blue ballers, because my opinions mean just as much or more than theirs do. The ones I argue with are mysoginists. Do you think I care, or let them get to me? Communities involve many types of people with diverse backgrounds and ideas. It's not a fantasy world. If you are doing all the "right" things, then why do you let it bother you when people talk about those who don't - whether it be blacks, whites, hispanics, strippers, women, etc.? If you do let it bother you, then you are losing the battle. Negativity will kill your soul if you let it. :peace: :peace: :peace: CHOOSE LOVE!

I got pulled over and HASSLED once because i was a white guy in a black neighborhood. They thought i was there to buy crack, i was there to fix one of the secretaries at my work's computer. Those cops were the biggest assholes ever to me.
On the brighter side, i ended up dating the woman i was fixing the PC for, oh, and she was black... Go figure. I got fucking hassled every time they saw me with her in my Mustang. Like she was a pro or something. Like we all know that every Black Woman driving with a White Man has to be a prostitute.
Cops.
EDIT: I hate to say "All" because that's almost never right, but some people get a little toehold on power and just go nuts with it. In general i respect cops, thankless job and all, BUT they seem, to me, like the old nursury rhyme about the little girl wityh the little curl...

TINA & TOPAZ- it appears that both of you have
self-esteem issues that you ought to try and work
out.
TOPAZ- Where did you get the psychic ability to
KNOW what other people think about you ? More
importantly, why do you care? If you really feel
denigrated then try to live as well as possible. It's
the best revenge.
TINA- time was when your advocacy of wealth
redistribution would ignite in me a vigourous defense
of capitalism. Today, I'm a little more circumspect.
On the one hand, Communism, Socialism and Social
Democracy have all proven to be failures. Capitalism
has proven to provide more wealth creation and
upward mobility than any other system. And yet, the
gap between rich and poor keeps widening. A smaller
and smaller percentage of people control more and more of the wealth in this country. In many other
advanced industrial countries the CEO's make 10 to
20 times what their workers do BUT in this country
it's often 100 times as much; sometimes more.
I honestly don't know what the answer is or even
IF there is an answer. I DO know what will NOT work
beause it has failed miserably over and over again.
I think at the roots, the BEST answer to racism is
education in both the broadest and narrower senses.
Here's one for further discussion: Someone please tell
me WHY so many black and latino leaders are against
any kind of school voucher program? Why are they are among the strongest supporters of public education (sic.) that has failed so many black and latino children.
Why don't they INSIST that proven successes such
as Marva Collins' methods and KIP be implemented
in any school that is failing ? Can it be that there is
a cynical element that wants to maintain a minority
"underclass" so that they will always have a ready-
made power base ? Sometimes it seems that way.

Thruout the west side of the world my people have been refeard to as tiano arwawke lokono caribe of wich the caribian is named after from the island of boriqua ( by the way we invented the barbaque )
Ok now what it has to do with racism is how are my people going to not be racisest if america keeps bombing our land and killing people with
thier bombs in my land even doe by accedent are expected to get along with them by bombing cape code it is ment in away how would you like it if we did that to you. (even doe they have since stoped bombing vieques for now because they are bombing other parts of the world.
we see it as a dissrespect to our people and part of our being raciest has to do with that not by the way we are treated here .

Now That is Funny. I guess your meaning the bombings in Viejas, PR? If I was from PR. (Which btw, is nice place outside the Cities).
Well, if I was in PR I would want the U.S Military to practice there. means good jobs. I do not consider it bombings though. As for Cape Cod, There is a U.S Military Base just as you enter the Cape and it is a good thing for the local economy and a hedge against a Terrorist Attack.

I think it refers to the Vieques bombing range - I don't know all the details, but the Navy acquired 2/3rds of the island in 1941. They turned their piece into a military facility where they drop bomps, not on people, but for tests/practice; but seriously... to suggest that the existance of the range is motivated by racism?... and what the frick does cape cod have to do with it? You lost me...
Anyway, a bit of internet searching turned up that the Navy closed the range in early 2003 in response to the island inhabitants protests.
Racism, what a fun topic, and one that sadly will never go away. It seems to me that ppl have this NEED to belong, and they NEED to believe that whatever group they identify with ...is better than all the rest. One thousand years from now when the racelines are blurred and everyone is brown, some new way hate come up.
My personal disgust comes with having to deal with men with an asian fetish. The ones that believe we're all lil' lotus blossoms aching to serve them, and that we're easy to get into bed...rrrrr. Ya gotta check out she is too funny, and she does'nt hold back.

I agree with you that people seem to have a strong need to identify themselves with a group, and that group mentality is often in conflict with the desire to "end racism." Typical for people - we have conflicting goals and wants.

[quote=Djoser;302616]How about the guy who asked my girlfriend if she had a boyfriend the other night. When she said yes, he asked if I was black or white. When she said I was white, he said "Oh, no honey, you need a black man to take care of that!"
What the fuck is that? Is he racist? Would I be racist if I said he was acting like a "nigger"? Is it impossible for me to have an enormous cock, or know what to do with it, if I am white?
The cook, who has grabbed her ass uninvited and made numerous crude sexual remarks, even after he has had his invitations for dates refused, asked her "What's wrong, don't you like black men?"
1- YES! He is being racist with that "u need a black man to take care of that." statement. The fucking asshole. I'm a black woman and let me tell u; 3 out of the 4 boyfriends I've had (black) had the tiniest dicks imaginable. Hung like a vienna sausage.2- YES! You would be racist if you said he was acting like a nigger. It has nothing to do with that situation. Why is it that no matter what the problem is with a black person, the first response in some peoples minds is to call them a nigger? Why couldn't you say he was acting like a racist? Why does he have to be a nigger? You could've even thought to tell him he was acting like an insecure little bitch that hides behind the myths of his skin color because he can't get girls any other way. 3- "What's wrong, don't you like black men?" I HATE to hear that ignorance spewed from ANYONE'S mouth. Yeah, I like black men; I just didn't invite your hand to my ass you nasty piece of shit!
