!!! Is this a famous book? I read it a few years back in a bookstore while passing through and wasting time in Oregon (yes, I just sat there and read it- shameless!). I remember quite liking it, but something about it made me assume it was a local author, a one-off kind of thing that I'd never hear about again.

Scarlet - Interesting....I don't think the book is famous. It says the author lives in New York. This book was loaned to me by someone who used to manage a Barnes & Nobles so maybe it's just one of those word-of-mouth things....

Which one Brooke? Master and Commander is a series of like 13 books.

The first one is "The far side of the world." They released a movie based on it last year.

To be honest, I haven't started it yet, so I don't know. Hopefully the first one - and I am reasonably sure the one from the movie. It isn't exactly my style, but it was a gift and I love books so much that I will read anything. Anything you can offer to make me more into starting it?

Well, if you liked the movie you'll probably like the book. If you've ever read 'Moby Dick' it's a lot like that, just minus the whaling. Master and Commander is more action oriented, but it does deal with the day to day humdrum of crewing a warship in the Napoleonic wars.

You might like it, it wasn't really my speed though.

I am going through the Old Testament which I read at least once every year. I am presently in the Book of Deuteronomy.

I am going to be reading Unfit for Command in about a week or two. I also do a lot of Map Reading as I love Maps.
