I could be really evil and post the naughty bondage clowns site [yes, it exists, really frightening] behind a tag, but I'll refrain. I don't want to get banned from the site as well as the chatroom. ;)

My fear is being broke ! It used to be dying but, I ve come to term with that.
I have a question for those who are afraid of clowns. What is it about them that frightens you ? I have always been curious about that one.

I have no idea what it is Farrah. But, even before I had seen "Poltergeist" (With the clown dragging the little boy under the bed with him), I've been scared to death of them!
When I worked at D'Angelos (A sammich place), some sort of circus was in town at Quonsett, and two clowns came in to get something to eat. I was one of two people working that night, and I hauled ass into the backroom. The girl that was working with me, was also afraid of them, so yep, she was right behind me. We hid there until they finally gave up and left.
Yes, my fear is THAT bad. LOL

Well, they hide in storm drains and try to tempt small children to come closer by offering them balloons, so they can kill them. :scared: I think that's reason enough!

My friend is the same way Rhia. I have never asked her why because she is THAT afraid. She goes into a panic over the word.
I thought maybe it had to do with Wayne Gacy ( I think that was his name) The guy who dressed like a clown to lure young boys to his house then he would rape, kill them.

LOL SB.. Pennywise is the only one who I'm not afraid of. Mostly because I know he's just Tim Curry.. lmfao..
"We all float down here!"

Farrah, that definitely adds to it. Also, when I was little, the Ice Cream man used to ride through the neighborhood dressed as a clown in his ice cream truck. Instead of running toward the truck to get ice cream, I ran FAR away from it!

Rhia, can you remember how old you were when your fear of clowns began ?
Rhiannon
09-10-2004, 11:16 AM
Oh damn.. I think I was about 3? My older sister had one for her 5th birthday party. I hid in my room and wouldn't come out the whole time.
I don't really think anything happened to make me afraid of them, but I am. LOL

Was your sis afraid of clowns too ? I guess some fears can't be explained, I used to have some crazy phobias as a child but, the older I got I began to understand what caused the fear in the first place.
Plus I stopped watching horror flicks ..LOL

The only fear I have left is the fear of death/loss of pets, friends, loved ones.
I hate when your mind plays tricks on ya', and gives you a nightmare of losing someone close to you. You wake up in that cold sweat and tormented. It's even more embarassing when they are laying next to you and you suddenly flip into snuggle-overdrive mode. :rotfl:
All this talk about clowns has me rethinking my Halloween costume choice..

LOL Farrah, unfortunately, I'm the only freak in the family who is afraid of the bastiches. My sister loved them. In fact, she would torture me about it. hahaha

i'm semi-afraid of clowns. i dont know if it's a fear exactly but they really creep me out. i once punched one in the face at a street carnival because he wouldnt stop following me, heh.
the weird phobia i have that no one understands is latex balloons. i know, i know, but they creep me right the hell out. the noise when people sqeak them etc. mylar ones are okay. i came to find out recently that my mother tied a balloon to my wrist when i was 2 or 3 and i screamed and screamed and she apparently thought it was funny, so she left it. i think i found the root of THAT fear.
but i love slugs, and snakes, and sharks and rats and bugs and all that stuff. there's a vacation package to go to south africa and dive (in cages) with the great whites!! i think i'd probably soil my wetsuit when one nudges the cage, but man, what a thrill that would be. (the shark, not the soiling myself)

I am beginning to think I should stop wearing my clown costume when I go to strip clubs. Maybe that is why I never get offerred a private dance!

Oh, whata great thread. I used to be really afraid of clowns but that is slowly dissipating. I also figured out about three years ago that my fear of heights ultimatly has to do with lack of trust in myself. That was a great eye opener, i'm still afraid of hights though. I can't think of any other fears or phobias I have currently. Although there are a few things that I am extremely paranoid about. Oh, and I do battle claustraphobia (sp?) sorry about the spelling errors I misplaced the dictionary.

LOL I forgot to add bees to my phobia list. I have a good reason though, they're evil and I'm deathly allergic to the bastiches. Last time I got stung was in AZ in '96. I was swimming in a pool, and all of a sudden my arm got a shooting pain up it. That's the last thing I remember.. LOL.. The Ex-Hubby said I went under, and he had to jump in and fish me out.. Woke up in the hospital, and released TWO freakin days later. Yikes.
Yeah, they don't like me and I don't like them. I learned then that I travel NO WHERE without my trusty Epi. Got one in my car and one here at home.

LOL, I ended up beeing a bumble bee for halloween because my vampire bat costume had wings so big that I kept knocking into everyone and there was no way I could go on stage in it! I will try to get a pic on here. The wings were allot smaller on the bee. ;)

Yep Blade... "Pennywise The Dancing Clown". The Pennywise on the cover of the book scares the hell out of me, but the movie version doesn't, because I know he's really Tim Curry, and I just picture him in drag then all is well.. LOL

I had lunch outdoors and my food was attacked by bees, which I am terrified of. They didn't get anywhere near my BF's food and we ate the same thing!
Then, I went to the DR and had a blood test. There is another fear, needles....
I am still shaking, what a crappy day, LOL!

I'm surprised nobody has linked this yet. The mother of all phobia lists:
http://www.phobialist.com/index.html
Now here's mine,
Cnidophobia - Fear of stings.
Bees, wasps, scorpions, you name it. I hate 'em.
Antlophobia - Fear of floods
And not just big floods, or flash floods, but little floods in my apartment because I accidently left a faucet running. Maybe it's because that's the one thing that my renter's insurance doesn't cover.
Aeroacrophobia - Fear of open high places.
I'm not so much scared of heights. I've been to the observation deck of the UT Tower in Austin and the Louisiana State Capitol. I could look down from those heights and feel nothing. But there's something about standing at the top of a stairway, escalator, or even on the roof of a house and looking straight out ahead at nothing that gives me the willies.
Numerophobia - Fear of numbers.
Okay, don't laugh. I'm not scared of all numbers, just zeroes and twos working in tandem, like the numbers 20 and 02, or 2002. (You can imagine that I had a very stressful year in 2002, more on that below). Seeing a zero and a two together just seem to mean a bad omen for me.
- I was born on the 20th of December, exactly 20 days past my mother's due date. See, I was cursed from the get go.
- Six of the nine digits in my SS# are the offending ones (three of each).
- I was semi-asleep on a cold winter morning (February 2, 2002) when the roof collapsed on my old apartment building. I remember looking up at the clock when I heard the crash. It said 2:20. So that's 02-02-02 at 02:20pm. Weird.
- I moved to my new apartment exactly 18 days after that happened. February 20th. So that's 02-20-02. The last two digits in the street address of my building...02. The first two digits in my apartment number..20. I've had numerous problems here with water leaking from the apartment upstairs (see my fear of floods). I can't get away from the damned things.
