As for exercise... I don't use that word as I concentrate on activity and just trying to be active.
My problem is that it is easy for me to be active when I am away from home for work. When I am home.. the internet is here.. accessible.. fast.. reliable... and I find my activity levels drop.
The nights I work I will only do light activity (low impact) be it vacuuming, "spring cleaning", going to the shops and so forth. My nights/days off I will do more strenourous stuff around the house, larger shopping "excursions", more walking, riding my bicycle and 20 min. of pilates.
I strive to do the pilates three times a week and aim for 10,000 steps. I do not count the walking around my club as part of the 10,000 steps minimum ... I see them as "bonus" activity. It's about 1000 steps to/from and within the local supermarket for me (as I never go to the supermaket for one item - I'm usually shopping on my flatmate's behalf as well).
I have a pedometre to help me to keep track of my steps.
I do low impact as I have weak ankles thanks to the wearing and dancing in stilettos for many years now.
