Alrighty.. Just a reminder here. It doesn't matter if someone was born in the early 70's, they can still know about the 80's and reminisce about that "era". Hell, I was born in '74, and that will always be my best time! I was also 16 when the 80's ended, and married the following year.

I'm confident that this thread was intended to be a fun one, so let's keep it that way.

Thanks!

You had 3 or 4 fake ID's. And even the really pathetic ones worked.

You had unprotected sex before AIDS was an acronym.

You remember exactly where you were when you heard Reagan was shot.

Your girlfriend wore her white ankle socks and pumps when she was in the mood to own you.

You think of the the dawn of grunge as the end of a great party.

Omigod, I still sometimes wake up with one of the songs from Gem and the Holograms in my head - it was my favorite cartoon. And I absolutely loved mtv so much I went as Cindi Lauper for Halloween one year, with my hair in a side pony tail sprayed red (i was rainbow brite the year before). And anyone remember slap bracelets? They were taken off the market when kids started cutting themselves when the fabric wore off of them.

Good list. I had a lot of Smurf stuff and wore Wonder Woman underoos. I remember a lot of things coming from the 80s like when VCRs were about $400 and now you can get one at Wal-mart for $40.

I never really thought about it until I read this thread, but I can see how the 80's were fun for those of us like D and I, decadently burning through brain cells and denying HIV as long as possible, and those a decade or more younger. No angst.

The dis.....

Sorry, lost that train of thought. Um.... Oh yeah. So.

First concert: Foreigner (Foreigner 4 tour). God forgive me.
First concert I'm not ashamed of: Adam Ant (Friend or Foe)

Surprised nobody's mentioned the stripper MTV debut, "Girls, Girls, Girls". Name the strip clubs mentioned in the song and receive a free betamax copy of the video.

Place in east Hollywood that had mudwrestling. I think it's been closed for years.

And BTW, I'm pretty sure I was a very happy toddler, too, but then again my mom recently told me she used to drop acid before breast feeding my sister and me. Explains A LOT of strange dreams I had later on. :O :boobies:

Okay, now I'm an 80s baby and not an 80s teen, but were me and the kids in my neighborhood like the only people who wore London Fog coats and thought they were like the thing in the mid 80s.

I did love Fraggle Rock, Smurfs, GIJoe the animated cool cartoon version, and the Snorks. One thing nobody mentioned was the beginning of the hip hop movement. One thing I remember, other than my mom hogging the TV to watch Dallas keeping me from hooking up my nintendo to our floor model TV so i could play Duck Hunt, was hearing Salt N Pepa's song push it day and nite on all diff types of radio stations. And I was like elementary young then, but damnit even I listened to Atlantic Starr, Elton John and Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam.

And, Venus Goddess......why am I just now discovering Z. Cavaricci jeans in my 20s? They are the best fitting jeans I have ever owned!

LOL...holy shite! London Fog coats!! I remember mine...I think my mom still has it stashed away somewhere. :D Do you also remember the Kangaroo shoes that came in all those funky colors and had the pockets on the sides? I LOVED those shoes...heh heh

Same music groups here, too. I even remember George Michael's video "I want your sex" on MTV...and the adults just about had a heart attack. LOL which made us kids want to watch it all the more...scandalous!! haahaa

You are just now discovering Z's? LOL...shiiiiiiit...I was wearing those in high school. Even in high school, those pants went for about $100 (if I remember correctly) a pair. The Z's didn't last for shite back then...hope they're made better now!

No flames, D, please....

I'll be attending a Kerry fundraiser this weekend (hit my contribution limit!) and the Bangles will be performing.

Susanna Hoffs in the flesh. Supposedly. I'll try to get a pic of her (with if she's not too nasty about it.) I wonder if the years have been kind to her....she was a cutie once upon a time....

I think she was in Mike Meyers band in Goldmember, Stant. If I remember correctly, she's not doing too bad.

I really dug the Fraggles. I used to watch religiously for the Doozers and the Trash Heap. My ma-in-law refers to herself as the "Trash Heap" as in "The Trash Heap has spoken!"

Anyone remember GWAR? Not sure if anyone was that into the underground Metal scene...

My 2-1/2 yr old son is just figuring out the mechanics or dressing himself and walked into the kitchen last night with his shirt and pants on backwards. I couldn't help but shout out "Daddy Mack'll make ya Jump, Jump! Mack Daddy make ya Jump, Jump!"

LOL, some stuff from the early 90s just didn't make sense either and thank goodness CrossColors jeans and clothing stopped being so popular. Does anyone else remember the first time they saw someone try to break into a run dressed like that or just with their pants sagging? It goes 1st leg, 2nd leg, floor!
