If she is still in Japan and owes 7th or her/their agents 72,000 yen, it would probably not be a good idea to be too specific about where she is working and living now on this public board! Maybe better to PM tfd with the answer. Obvious I guess, but better to err on the side of caution...

lol miss jessica, ppl say all sorts of things, not all of it is true, or importent in each persons situation! ....i mean, have you HEARD of any cases? ( lucie blackman wasnt yakuza)

I have heard such stories too, but they have all the signs of "urban legends". In particular, I have never run into any dancer or customer or bouncer or... who directly themselves knew any dancer who had run into any foul play, not even anyone who knew anyone who knew such an unfortunate victim directly. I definitely agree with mer-nz that it would be silly to let some story you hear Nth-hand (or over the internet) scare you off without trying to check it out in some serious way.

Wow, that is so fucked up! I feel bad for these poor girls. :( That def. sounds like an inside job, just like everyone mentioned. I too would put a friggin' hidden camera in the room to see who did it. But then again, they'd probably find the camera too. Such scumbags. Tokyo does not sound safe at all, unless you know the place well. :-\ Hey Mermaidz, be safe & be careful.

Did you get over to Kyoto too, as I think you said you planned to do? If so, how'd you like it?

Maybe they read your post on SW and knew that you had "resigned" from 7th!

Sure, that must be it...ha! ;)

It sure as hell is. That is the thing that you can never really explain to dancers who are considering working there; aside from all the usual professional and financial considerations, you have to somehow take into account that you are going to get to see one of the most incredible and unque places in the world. Although some will hate it and some will adore it, almost everyone will have an experience that they will always remember. And for more than a few, it will have a big effect on the rest of your life.

It's in Japanese so only those who can read Japanese will benefit from the link.

Sounds like a good holiday destination not necessarily a good "working holiday" destination. I'm going to do the same with Guam... it being a holiday more than work.. however I'll work for the experience and to off set some expenses (food whilst there and so forth).

Sounds like a good holiday destination not necessarily a good "working holiday" destination.

One difference, in Japan and almost everywhere else too, is that purely holiday travel is much shorter and more superficial than a "working holiday". I am not saying anything very original or subtle, just pointing out the well known fact that really living and working in a place allows/causes you to get to know it at a whole different level than blowing through for a week or two and seeing the famous (tourist) sights, living in hotels, sampling the food at well known restaurants, mostly only meeting locals who work in tourism-related jobs and so forth. Imo, Japan is quite a good pure holiday destination, especially the Kyoto-Nara area, but you really only get the sort of exceptional experience I (and mermaidnz too, if I have understood her correctly) was trying to describe in posts above by spending a substantial amount of time and digging into the local culture and lifestyle a bit.

never made it to kyoto, cos accommodation is fully booked there at the time we could go down :( but we are planning on cmoing back here next year in the middle of our backpacking mission in asia,so DEFINATLY then.

on the plus side, we have had heaps more time to explore tokyo city....ok, not the best place to enjoy the culture, but still nice.

got kicked out of the imperial palace, hehe, walked from ueno to some random place to meet a friend off the net for lunch, all good.

im still glad i came here, even tho it wasnt as expected money wise.sure the thousands of dollars rained apon me like i was told of would have been nice, but im still leaving with several thou,a 10day holiday in thailand fully paid for,for me and my boy, paid my boobs off ( i borrowed the money for them) and some WICKED memoires!

just wish i didnt have to work so many nights, so i could have seen more of japan, not just tokyo.

Good plan, a city not to be missed...one of my favorites in the world. When the time comes, PM me if you want for some suggestions of less well known things to see/do.

Imo Tokyo is a great and unique place too, rather different from both Kyoto (also a unique place) and the rest of Japan, but definitely worth the time to explore I think. It depends some on what you like; if you like traditional Japanese cultural things, don't miss the museums in Ueno Park, esp the National Museum which is at the north (I think) end of the park.

im still glad i came here

I'm very glad to hear that! And it is great that you have kept us (at SW) so well posted on your adventures there.

And how many weeks did you work to accomplish all that? It doesn't sound like you did all that bad at all...even if it wasn't as super-amazing as you hoped/expected. (You know sometimes you can be disappointed by a really good movie or book if you are expecting it to be off-scale, the best ever, sort of thing.) I assume that you also covered your expenses for the trip, not cheap in Japan, and your BF's too? If so, I'd definitely say you did OK compared to most places in the world...wouldn't you? Anyway, I am glad it went at least pretty well financially; some of your posts about how dead it was made me think you might be losing a lot of money on the whole deal.

and some WICKED memoires!

Yeah! Those memories are better than money in many ways, in the long run. Most of my best memories in a long and WICKED life are from Japan trips...going back almost 20 years now.

went to ueno park the other day, didnt make it to the museum tho, doing that on sunday, along with the big garden near there ( chinese stroll garden and zen )

ok, so money was OK. not great , but pretty good, although, in saying that if i worked the same hours in australia id have made the same amount. i ended up working 9 weeks before bailing, and i THINK i made about 2.4million yen. yeah, that covered my expenses and my boys( but he worked as well) i think we could have saved a hell of a lot more, but we have spent 2 grand USD in the last week, just on hanging out in tokyo, buying stuff etc.. oops my bad :)

as i was saying before, i dont think ppl should expect to come to tokyo expecting to make EXCESS of what they make in the US ( at a good club) ie, if you make over USD$2k a week, working 6 nights, then DONT bother coming here EXPECTING to make much more then that. sure on a good week, you can make 5k, but on a bad week, it can cost you in tip outs. tokyo is fickle.
come here with the expectation of making enought money to pay for your flights, accommodation, food other expenses, and a few thou for your effort at the end. dont expect the house and car lol

One factor to keep in mind for a dancer evaluating the financial aspects of working in Japan is the exchange rate; the yen seems to be more variable than most major currencies. For example, the value of a yen in US dollars is almost 20% higher at the moment than it was when I was last in Tokyo, about 10 months ago.

Thanks mermaidnz for keeping us updated on all the adventure you had over there in Japan. I'll say the same thing ("if you can make $2k or over per week at any other club in Australia... do that.. do not go to Japan") to other dancers wanting to know about Japan.

I'm lucky.. I can make $2k a week (aussie) up in Rockhampton only working Wed-Sat ;D Didn't even have to leave my own state to make that type of money

Granted.. the memories are priceless... so they would've kinda "made up" for the disappointed earnings ???
