Freedom from debt and a job I hated.

A law Degree.

I much better perspective on life.

Getting to meet amazing women that I would never have gotten to meet otherwise.

--a laptop and the software needed to take my music composition to the next level
--money to put in my IRA
--money to put in a CD for when I want to go to grad school
--money to put in savings for when I want to buy a house or condo
--more time than when I was working retail or waiting tables...more time for what's important to ME: creating and performing music, spending time with my SO and friends, etc.
--more freedom--I can take time off for vocal competitions and shows, and not worry about being fired or not being able to pay rent
--financial freedom from parents

I was able to move out to my own fully furnished large apt (shared with bf)
I'm in my last year of college
I am able to take care of myself and my 2 cats, and my bf
In hopefully no more than 2 years, I will buy a house. My only problem is that I can't decide where.
I haven't bought a new car, bc I'd rather put the 30-40 thousand I'd waste toward a down payment for a house.
I also own about $2000 worth of designer jeans. Lots of shoes and designer clothes.
and I can afford to help my poor sister out with money and food.

also laser hair removal on my underarms and a few medical treatments that my insurance didn't fully cover. And vet treatments for my cats.

I've actually been able to afford the apartment that my abusive ex left me without having to sacrifice food, but I've only been dancing for about a month.

What I want to buy...a couch that isn't broken, stained and stinky.

Then, a new wardrobe...something that someone else hasn't already worn.

After that...beautiful paintings for every room of my apartment with new frames.

I think the best things I have because of dancing aren't things. I own my life! I set my own work schedule to work around holidays and special events. If I want to go to a concert or last minute event, I don't have to sweat about getting time off work.

-If my stepson is sick, I just stay home with him.
-If I need extra money for something special, I just work more until I reach that goal.
-I've taken many trips, and traveled all around the western US and taken a few tropical vacations.

I don't work like crazy, usually. I work enough to live a comfortable middle class lifestyle, but for the most part, I will choose living life over going to work if I can. If I make $1000 in one shift, the club isn't likely to see me for a week or two ;D

$250 a week to Oxfam, $100 a month to Greenpeace. It's nothing tangible, but it alleviates every drop of guilt I have over being so 'privileged' to have been born here and not say, Sierra Leone...

I don't know what I'll do with the rest of my savings (I have a tendency to live very modestly, which is nice because I don't 'depend' on my dancer earnings), but just knowing I can invest now and possibly have a downpayment on a house when my friends are drowning in student debt...it's a good feeling. Also, the prospect of grad school in a few years without the requisite life of a TA/ academic slave...very enticing. :)

I don't have it yet, but I'm going to have my credit card paid off in early 2006 and I might have my car paid off by my next birthday (two years early). After that, stripper money is travel money!! I have a system where I live on my career money, and my stripper money is for me. Keeps me happy!

I own 5 or 6 regulars on average. When I leave a club I sell them to other dancers. I call all of them "Fred", which works better than mixing up names. My boys seem to enjoy being belittled like this, but that's my style.

I sold a great regular for $5000 once to a super hot girl that milked him for another 6 months.

This is fun!

A cute little BMW 318ti...bought w/cash

Tons of nice clothes and designer purses... maybe it's not a "smart investiment, but I don't care, they rock!!"

Great length's hair extensions....

Great memories from vacations in Florida, NY, Miami and Hawaii...

A mink coat ( I know it's not Politcally Correct but I love fur!)

i know this isn't something that money can buy, but i feel like i own my body more than i ever did before i danced. i have always had body image issues, and having people tell me a thousand times a night that i'm hot and pay me to get naked finally drove home that boyfriends and friends have never been able to-- that i actually am attractive and there's nothing wrong with my body. these are strangers who have no reason to be nice to me-- there's a bunch of other girls in the club-- and they ask me for dances.

and that really kicks ass. :D

wow..... you just hit it for me.. I like what you said

Yeah, don't have nothing worth mentioning.
'Cept my education, my kids, and my trust fund.
The rest is junk.
Yeah, there but for the grace of God, go I.
I could be back to nothing the next second.
I never ever forget it.

it really is the intangible things that are most priceless, i think.

the freedom is the best...knowing that I don't have to depend on someone else to support me, i can do it myself. knowing that if/when i decide to go back to grad school, i will be able to afford it without a lot of debt and worry and struggle. knowing i don't have to beg to get a day off of work when something important comes up, etc.

also not a tangible thing, but it's given me self-confidence. three years ago, i came to the US (from Romania) feeling scared, out of place, useless and incapable of suriving on my own...and the feeling lasted for a long time, i wasted so much time being paralyzed by my fear and self-doubt. Dancing (along with a few other things that happened along the way) made me more assertive with people, more able to stand up for myself, and less inclined to shrink away from things that seem impossible or scary.

Having money is wonderful, but the secure feeling that comes from having it is even better. Last year, i had to live in my car. Sometimes I crashed on friends' couches, but i was too ashamed to admit that i was homeless. I hated sleeping cramped up in the back of my car, wondering whether i was safe from police (apparently it's illegal to live in the car), wondering whether my car would be broken into while i was sleeping in it, feeling very vulnerable, eating shitty food in the car and stealing from the kitchen when i got a badly-paying job as a bartender, because i couldn't afford food. Being cold, feeling dirty because i could only shower when the gym at college was open (yes, i was still going to school, but the tuition is mostly paid for by a sponsor, otherwise i would have had to leave...but they do not pay for a room and food).

I never want to go back to being homeless again. i am finding no trouble saving the money, because i hated having to live in the car.
