banditos are members of a worldwide motorcycle gang.

I had a problem with this at my old upscale club. I think most of it had to do with preconceived notions, though. When I started getting the cold shoulder from a couple of white guys (and I always work at white clubs, for a number of reasons, namely I am too princess-ey to be hittin splits and makin my ass clap for 2 dollars), I felt like most white guys didnt like black or colored women. It started to affect my earnings and there was even a time I really resented God for making me colored (it was the club and some situations on my college campus, actually). I just eventually got the point that I was exceptionally gorgeous, smart, and kind and that I absolutely CANNOT look for validation in other people. Once I got that, my money changed. Now, I can make just as much if not more as any white blond chick in the club (this was after I changed clubs as well, so that made a huge diff).

And you are right Akasha, it IS a hot topic...

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing.. All the truly fine black girl dancers I know are usually some of the top earners at the clubs they work at. Sometimes you just have to switch club or invest money on your appearance. Nuff Said.

I totally agree with what you're saying. It's annoying how some of the Black or Hispanic clients tell me that I'm too proper or it sounds like I have a English accent. It also amazes me why there is such a demand for the ghetto Black girl who does the Bet uncut style dancing onstage. A lot of the customers pit me against these types of women to say that I'm not Black enough or that I'm too intelligent to be dancing. They've even asked, where's my booty at and that I need to eat more. It's all a bunch of BS to me. The only thing that I have a hard time dealing with is when I get immediate resistence from the more upscale clients b/c they were previously turned off by the tacky, unarticulate, ghetto Black girl. It's hard to do damage control behind these girls and I get tired of people acting like there's something wrong with me because I'm classier, more articulate, and I don't romp shake like a crazy ho onstage.

The people who say you are too "proper" are not educated blacks and hispanics. They are the ones who are uncomfortable with whites, and your being in their presence makes them feel inadequate.

No matter how sexy, beautiful, well spoken you are...you are still "THE BLACK DANCER"

You know as a woman of color, we always have to have our shit 10x tighter than our white sisters and sometimes we still don't get the credit that is due.

LOL, that good ol' "BLACK TAX" (sigh)

Yeah, the black tax is a bitch. The worst part about it I think is that a lot of (non-color) people don't know/recognize that it exists. I think a lot of people think we just pulled it out of our collective colored asses. ::)

When I read you post, I felt two things: Happy because I realized that I was not alone in this situation, and angry because this is bullshit. I too resemble Beyonce and people tell me "Oh, you're beautiful, but I don't want a dance." Then That jerk turns right around and buys a dance from some white crack whore. I'm almost to the point where I dont want to dance anymore because its fucking with my self esteem/ I too have had to claw for one or two hundred dollars while whites and everything in between get handed 500-600. I get so pissed that sometimes I want to kick their ass!! Ohh its so frustrating. I live in Cleveland and I'm leaving once February of next year hits. I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that sis, u are not alone. I'm considering going to Atlanta to give it a shot. I heard that Italy is a good place to try. Also, France would definetly show you some love, they love our ass, and I mean specifically African Americans (particularly ones who look mixed because they assume you are from their territory Islands like Martinique and Guadalupe). Remember how they treated Josephine Baker like gold? I hope things are going better for you sis.

Wow. Why would you want to fight a girl just because she makes more money?? That will definitly hinder your earnings ANYWHERE. Gotta loose the bitterness and maybe you can befriend the money makers instead of being mean and it sounds like your a bit jealous too. I say this because recently went to a low caliber club just to hang out with my guy buddies who dont want to spend money ( we live in NYC) and I work at PEC ( the top club in NYC and maybe the country) and my buddy was talking to these 2 black girls who were SO RUDE!! I dont care about color, as long as your nice, ya know? The girls were eyeing me down like crazy. So I tried to be nice to them and i told them I dance. they asked me where and I replied "PEC" and she says she wants to work there so I say " Cool, come audition. I am sure you will make lots of money there, but you probably do good here as well" and she replies
" Honey, I make money wherever I work. I am gorgeous. OK? I am a DIVA!" and her girlfriend said something similar and they rolled their eyes at me and they she said it with such bitterness and jealousy towards me and I could not understand why she and her friend were being mean to me. And she then told me that I was threatened of her!! And mind you, I'm not bragging but I am prettier than her so that statement was retarded. So she leaves and her friend gets on stage so I 'm talking to my buddy and I told him that shes being nasty and her attitude makes her ugly and she runs over and yells to her friend on stage " Yo, she just called you ugly!" !!!!!! Can you believe that! Then she acts like she wants to fight me. Psycho.

No one wants to be around anyone who feels sorry for themself or overly-aggressive women of any color who like to fight or says nasty things. Thats not ladylike, just be nice and sweet to EVERYONE and keep the weight down, hair nails and makeup perfect, dress elegantly and don't dance too nasty on stage and the millionaires will love you no matter what color you are.

We have about 10 black dancers out of 80-100 at my club and they do look more "non-ethnic". Long hair, very slim, and are extremly beautiful, and they never never never speak with slang. One of my girls I work with is black and she banks $$. Hope this helps and remember, attitude is everything.

Tinkle you make a great point with the weight issue, and looking your best...but there are women out there doing all that and having a nice attitude while getting the same treatment posted above.

Working in NYC (my hometown) is different than say a place like where I am in middle Georgia.

Oh and what is "black-tax"???

Black Tax: The belief among many professionals of color that you have to work 10X harder than whites to obtain the same amount of success or money. Its a very OLD term that sorta not used anymore.

...to the folks who dont believe that...think about your clubs' highest earner...if she is black, she makes it look sooo easy and you see her never sit down on her ass & complain about how bad it is. She is working 10X harder: her game is BETTER, her walk is SEXIER, her LDs are HOTTER, she is MORE agressive....and doesnt break a sweat doing it!

In alot of upscale clubs, the highest earner is a black dancer. In Ivy league schools the valedictorian is often black. I read an article in fortune magazine about the first black excutives of some major fortune 500 companies...one xerox executive who started out heading an all-black sales division in the late 50's(they were segregated) said that their division out-performed the other all-white divisions...and of course, people were hatin' LOL

That good ol black tax will push you to work harder OR you "start drinking the kool-aid" and stop trying.

Indeed. Hence the old saying "you have to work twice as hard to go half as far."

The demographic of people with the highest G.P.A. at Vanderbilt and many other prominent universities are black women. Black women are 1/2 of all women in the armed forces. And according to sources http://www.washtimes.com/business/20050328-125309-1639r.htm black women with college degrees make more money than similary educated white women.

HEHEHE....yeah that old black tax. We have quite a few black entertainers at my club, I have been the only one for 3 1/2 years. We get some that come and go, just sticking around for a few weeks. But now we have like 7. My $$ has dwindled too, and now I have to work even harder just to get my due. Now I have to deal with "weren't you just onstage," (I wasn't) "Your name is________" (Not my name) Even though we all have TOTALLY different looks. One is very thick, big butt big boobs, acts a bit ghetto, dances under Alize, no joke and is a top earner. Bullshit if guys like nice, sweet, polite black dances. The girl is ghetto and dances to the worst hip hop complete with a lot butt shakin. She is the stereotypical black girl, but she banks. One is very light skinned half mexican with a mom pooch. Not hot either. We have a new one who is short/muscular. The other is very light, very skinny, short hair, lots of tatttoos. We also have another who is very very ugly. Saggiest boobies I've ever seen on a dancer, VERY BAD mom pooch very ugly face. She also has lots of noticeable stretch marks. The last 3 never seem to make any $ however. I hate that I sometimes 'confused' as on of these ladies. I a tall (5'9" without the shoes, I wear 6 inchers) thin small boobs no butt totally different looking in the face. I dance to rock only. Some customers only see black and not much else.

It can be quite discouraging when you sit with a guy and 50 secs after you leave he gets a dance with a white girl wearing tacky jean shorts, her tummy roll hangin over, hair in a ponytail, with a cheap t shirt on cut in half. At times it is truly better to be fat, ugly, and white than to be black and pretty with a nice body. It is the only thing that REALLY makes me want to quit this business. You get sick of being shortchanged just b/c you are black.

I can understand where she is coming from. While I would never hurt, speak badly directly or indirectly to someone who made $, it sucks when you're the only one not makin cash. I never have an attitude. I always smile, am nice, polite to everyone. I admit that I do wannadance too often instead of sitting down talking first. NONE of the hot white girls sit down unless it is very slow, and sometimes not even then unless they know you or you are spending $$$. Even on very busy nights i still have to sit down just to get a gottdamn dance. Very frustrating. Last Sat I made 275 when just about everyone else made at least 600.

one of the clubs i've worked at had about a 90% white customer base, and only a couple black dancers. one of them was the top earner in the entire club and she didn't do any extras at all. i've known quite a few black girls who fucking -bank- in "white" clubs. i've also known quite a few black girls who use race as an excuse for not making money. i'm not saying racism doesn't exist, it sure as hell does. i'm just saying that it's completely possible for a black girl to make as much, if not more money than a white girl in the same club.

There is a black Jamaican girl in my club that absolutely makes bank. She has a beautiful face, but her body is not that great. The thing with her is that she absolutely exudes confidence, has personality and sales skills and NEVER gets discouraged. She has had customers tell her to her face that they don't want/like black girls and she STILL manages to sell dances to those very same guys!!! Its all attitude baby,I'm totally convinced...

In Melbourne, black dancers seem to do very well (possibly because there are so few of them). So, try working in a club which has all (or mostly) white dancers. You're likely to stand out in a good way.

Also, I don't think not being a hustler helps you (or anyone!) I know it can be hard to do, but check out some of the tips in this section to help you on your way.

Not being rude, but that's an easy statement to say when you work in Australia since all the clubs here (unless I've missed something!) are made up of dancers of majority European descent for the fact that Australias population isnt exactly teaming with black people. Finding a near all white club is going to be alot harder for many of the American or British girls. Especially since it sounds like alot of clubs only hire a specific amount of dancers of colour.
Some black dancers do exceedingly well here, some dont. For me I dont think it makes any difference but Im not the blackest looking black person. I sometimes think having darker skin would be to my advantage when it comes to stripping in Australia - but at the same time I really dont know. A couple of the other black dancers Ive worked with and I have noted that Japanese people often really dont seem to like us, but not too many other noticable problems. (-:

do some research, improve your hustle. as for any dancer who doesnt fall into that typical blonde tan big boob category, you have to work your "minority appeal" to the customers (my minority appeal, for example, is having oodles of tattoos and facial piercings). try to think of it as a fetish - you just gotta find the right guys.

you'd be amazed at how many guys will fantisize about being with a black women, who probably wouldn't be caught dead actually dating one or even having a chance with one. a lot of these guys are guys who you wouldn't expect would want a black chick. i mean, i don't just go for the alternative looking guys that come in - you honestly never know. guys have all sorts of different tastes and fantasies.

i guess my point is - be the sexy black girl they have only been able to dream about... and learn to find those dreamers.

It all goes back to the great Chris Tucker...America is made up of C average students. Of course the A students excel but what about the C students. If you are black and C average you are working at Burger King. If you are white and C average student you could be the President of the United States.

^^^^LOL, damn, damn, damn, well said^^^^

Like I've said before, an ugly white girl is NOT on the same level as an ugly black girl. Most of the time it truly is better to fat ugly and white, than to be fat, gorgeous and black. Or vice versa. We all know just about anyone can bank with the right hustle at the right club no matter the color. It is what you have to do to earn the $$ that is the difference.

Here are some comments form white males on SCL regarding black girls at a nude club in the state of SD:

"There are always more black girls out there than any other kind. And these aren't Janet Jackson pretty black girls. They are National Geographic, fresh out of the jungle, crack whore kinds of girls. They are always begging customers for private dances."

"Went to the club Friday night, they had a few ugly girls but had 2 REALLY HOT black gals from MN. I was rather impressed. Not a fan of black gals, but after seeing those 2, I will think differently."

"If you have some of those famous Milwaukee girls, I would drive to see them because they are always lots of fun and always willing." (Milwaukee black girls who work in the Northern Plains are known for after hours sex)

"Watch out for the black chicks in this place. They'll grab your money right out of your hand."

Some of these types of customers see black girls as a good source of cheap pussy. Many black dancers who don't fit the caramel skin, silky straight hair, well mannered, caucasian feature image, have a hard time dancing in non black clubs. And these girls sometimes become "haters" when working in a white club alongside a black dancer who fits the "Janet Jackson" image.

A higher proportion of black girls feel they have to offer sex to be able to compete with white dancers, and because of that, a growing number of customers seek them out for cheap sex. And the black girls aren't paid as much for sex as the white ones.

go to a club where most of the dancers are white. there are men who love "ethnic" looking girls, and if there are only one or two, you will be a hot commodity...in demand.

i would also do something called "code switching" i do this. i talk like the customer, but not too obviously. in other words, if you are with a country dude, get a little bit country. if i'm with a lawyer, i say "damn" and "hell" because that's what lawyers say. if i'm with a grad student, i use big words, very little foul language...and on and on and on it makes people comfortable, and

me being a little different (alternative) myself, guys are intimidated or frightened by my look. if i make subtle changes in my behavior to immitate them slightly, they begin to look past that, and start to feel like we have something in common. i swear they never pick up on it. they actually think i'm LOSING my facade....

off topic but i hope that helps.

This is too true. When I danced, this was the problem that I had with a lot of white male customers who had "fetishes" for black women. They often thought I was "easier" or "cheaper." This wasn't always the case, but in general, I stayed away from "fetish" types.

In predominantly white clubs, you do have to find your "niche" market. However, be sure that those in that market appreciate your quality.

Frankly, I always found it a lot of fun when some guy would try to talk some ghetto smack to me, and then find out that not only was I educated and well spoken, but I also went to a better institution than him and got better grades...haha! :D

I have experienced the same exact thing!!!
Unfortunately, I believe it has less to do with RASCISM and more to do with demographics. For example, the white men who are most responsive to me are from metro areas of the northeast, such as NYC, or urban areas know to be diverse.
I know that I'm a new dancer and all, and my hustle is a little weak, so I try not to take it personally. Keeping a positive attitude is tough when other girls are making $1000 a night while I'm happy if I get $200. But, I love a challenege and I'm sticking with it.;D

In Austin or any city, many times it depends on the dancer. Certain black dancers can do well in just about any of the 9 clubs there, and some won't be able to sell anything. The first order of business is getting hired, which can be a chore and take persistence.

Actually for me, the opposite was true. When they would hire 1-2 other black girls my money would increase. 2 other girls who look like me would also make me hustle harder, thus make them frustrated...I LOVED every minute of it to...dam, im' such a biotch :D

You know why..cause men now had a choice. Put me next to 2 other dancers who look "similar" to me, and they can now tell that I have a nice face/body etc. I dunno, for me I cant' compare myself to white/hispanic/asian dancers. Ok, compare isnt' the best word to use, but I'll say similarities...;)

The racism goes way beyond all white clubs. I can't count how many black men that have told me that I'm "so pretty to be a dark skinned girl". As if a chocolate complexion is some sort of disease or something!
