Another troll. See this (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=8448402&an=0&page=0#Post8448402) thread
I dont understand...was he a customer of yours, Luscious? I see that he's a pro poker player (who obviously did something naughty) but I'm not sure why you posted that.
or do you mean the captain tom here is that same fellow?

Hi, everybody. I recently just join the site and I am glad to find so many black woymn on the site. I just want to add my two cents on here from my experiences. From reading all the posts its a combination of several things posted that I had experience from getting into the door to hustling to cope, hope and stress. I really liked Tina's thread about supporting and owning black businesses and running or working twice as hard as any major company. I think what she said is important and its not going to happen over night nor I think racism will ever end. But us being stronger as a community and owning businesses is a start, adirmation of black beauty next to Marliyn Mornoe beauty will come much later. Until then I agree we are a fantasy for customers.
One of my experience relating to this is when I worked at a black club in MI, I was out of place but didn't care. Meaning, I wasn't working to become the best huslter in the club but being confident of the fact of being me. I didn't booty clap or dance really on any fast songs. Guys let me know I need more meat and ass, you know the usual for girls not fitting the norm for a black club. Anyways, I have always loved the fact I am different but at the same time adapting to my enviroment in my own way. Guys and girls custys loved me for me. A skinny girl that did grow a little butt that dances to 80's music. What did bother me though, that this is a club with a well-known name behind it, I don't know or believe any other club chain with this name in this country where you find more black dancers, managers, DJs than this one. I went there thinking ok, a well-known club it should be cool. Unlike the other black clubs where I just wouldn't do well. I didn't know it was all black girls dancing. The management that ran the club talk to the girls like hoes, most acted ghetto and made hella cash. But all the black management from the time it first opened til I lefted the club all were fired for many stupid reasons. So, I'm thinking here is a club with a well-known name and a chance for blacks to run this club and show an example and I hear every manager and DJ say "Man, this is the easiest job I had esp. in Michigan." So why fuck it up?
And its not like the club don't make money (not like the other chains) but white guys come in there cause they are curious, A LOT. They like the experience and got dances but not from me, cause i didn't fit the norm. I would get, "Why don't you work in the white clubs you would earn more." I say, "I like the education right now." And I did gain something from there and enjoyed myself. I never worked in all black club before this club. I also loved the fact that sometimes the guys liked how I continued to be who I was and did have good nights. I will never forget making eye contact with this one guy, dancing slow to "Don't you Want Me?" and he said, "Wow, I never heard that song but you got my attention." Plus hipping the young girls in the club to music most never heard in their life. Mostly, if not all were under 24 at the time.

I also wanted to put my second cent on the table that I am currently dealing with at the moment. After a while in the summer, when my SC above was slow I did finally leave to go to a white club, money is the point of working. lol. I did find a sweet club that I am still missing sinced I moved to Florida. The club was nice except last Superbowl weekend and this one gropper.
Anyways, an asian girl that I befriend banked (I loved that she was a little older than me too you don't have to be 18-24 to bank), with her regulars, this was a laid-back upscale club so you needed regulars, mostly kids at night. Anyways, again we befriend and she showed me a sweet pic of her younger with blond hair. I never even thought of having any light colored hair til I looked at hers. I told her I should try it, she said go for it but don't dye your hair thats why she went back to her natural color. I came to work with a strawberry blonde and a 613 mixed blond wig. I always do make my face before I go to work and try to get in the mind set by trying on my outfit in the mirror. The whole look was great on me. My skin really glowed and I felt sexy. I huslted the room that night and felt sexy on stage. It was slow but damn I felt good. It showed on my face.
The problem I am having though, is outside the club from black people esp. that it looks like I am conforming to being a "Barbie-look-alike". A lot of turned heads, hard looks, laughs but if I was wearing pink hair it would be the same thing. Sometimes it hurts but I have always been the odd girl but in the club I am lucky to be viewed as appealing, I actually did dance for a hot min. down here in FL, and was in the VIP a few times so it works for me. So, I know this thread mostly about the experiences in the club but racism and lack of accepting any change within the usual fabric of what we see daily is always going to be there. I already vented on my blog on MS, about just because I am going blond doesn't mean I am trying to be something I am not. Or the misconception blond hair is only owned or ok to be worn by any other race. And not only the sisters on your tv is permitted to wear long black hair. I feel great to walk around and feel good by my choice of hair color be it black or blond. Just like your blond, white, blue-eyed top models or earners in the club can tan themselves and feel great.
Anyways, back to clubs, I dislike the clubs so far I have attended in Florida and going to try a new club soon we will see if my skin and hair color gets me in the door.

To me, the issue is not whether a black women dyes her hair blond, it is the state of self acceptance she has for herself prior to dying her hair. Unfortunately there are many black women walking around hating themselves due to internalized racism and many of these women feel that dying their hair would make them more beautiful because they are less black. Since this self hate is rampant, you will naturally find people who assume this is the case when they see your hair. My advice to you is to not worry about the opinion of strangers because they don't know who you are and where you stand in terms of self understanding and consciousness. Do what's right for you.

Hello, lexXe. Thanks for the cheers. I was never one to think inside the box. Sometimes I purposely push the boundaries of the majority that make me push myself. I color my hair just for a change, something different, now I love it more because its another push.

The sad truth is that many ladies of color could never work in white clubs no matter what and if they do there will always be drama. For example I am light skin mixed dominican ,Black, Samoan. My body type keeps me out of the the better clubs no matter how well I dance or etc.
I have danced on an off. When I first started dancing I tried to dieting
and losing weight but still had that pronouced bubble butt. Which clubs owners in the better clubs frown on. I try to dance in better clubs but
until things take a big turn for the better that is how it is. I just thank god I am able to make more money than the average joe does at a 9-5.
Trust me it used to really bother me to the point of being in tears being bitter that I could not work it the top clubs. Yes I do have to work harder but I have my self esteem and will not do certain things others will for
$$$.
I also understand life is rough and it is survial .Nobody wants to be homeless
and girls will do what ever it takes to get what they need or want.
One day people will not see color. But until that happens keep your head
up and do what you can. ;D
Oh even in the most seediest clubs I get and demand my respect.

You know I think that it is not our color that people see. It is our features, Like I know this one black chick in my club. She have the typical African american features.(At least this is what I here)! I on the other hand do not. I look more Asian (well duh because I am mix with polyneisian, black, Indian, white, and micronesian). Anyhoo we both work in a white club. She is also much bigger than I. Men love her, She get so many men who have fetishes for black women. I get some of those guys. But I get more of the ones that like asian chicks. Her guys may give me a couple of dances. But will say they like black chicks. I'm like hello I am black too. But they are looking for someone with a more black features. Which makes no sense to me. Since black people have so manny differant features.

Exactly, and boy when you get a man to step up to the plate and let THE WHOLE club know he's into WOC boy do the men get that look of envy. It's kinda like their just sitting there like, "wow he got a dance from her..I mean I've never been with black women but they are so hot. Maybe one day I'll be with one" ::) I love that look that white guys give. I just give them that look that says, "yea I know you want a taste of this cinammon baby" lmao...

Since their are so many black women on this thread I thought I would open up this question, which I believe follow along with its main intent. So if a black guy goes into predominately white club in a city that has black clubs, do you assume he is their to see white women because if he wanted to be with a black dancer he would have gone to the black club? I will have proto-typical white barbie come up to me but I have to send a waitress or manager to get the black princess because she will ignore me and focus on the white men. What am I doing wrong? Once I establish myself in a club it is not a problem but I travel a lot and have had that happen in many cities. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Good question hun;)
Personally, I'd say yeah....kinda. I try to judge on a case-by-case basis. If I see you totally ignoring me, and salivating over the Caucasion dancers, to the point that I feel you are totally uninterested in me, as a woman of color, I keep it moving;)
It really, really, really, depends though. Its all about the vibe, and it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong so to speak, IMHO.
But hell, get your behind up to the stage and tip! That way, I know you are interested;D

I am a mixed girl too. Filipino and black. i found it hard to make money at first before i learned how to read the customers that came into my club. the ones that look like they would never look twice at me are the ones that most of the time spend the most. try other clubs because you are bound to fit in at one. I work in Atlanta and there are lots of clubs here where ladies of color have no problem.

Here's the direct AskMen.com link (http://www.askmen.com/specials/2007_top_99/1/beyonce/picture-1.html).
After finally making it through all of what used to be 16 pages of this thread, here is something I have a question about -
It's been mentioned several times that black men customers don't usually want black women but I was wondering if that is more age group specific, for instance older blk men (45+) vs. the 30-45 range vs. the under 30 range (ROFLMAO at the "show a sister some support" and "support black business" comment :D . Too funny)
That was it back in 1992 Manhattan. Some managers in the area would tell you they don't hire blacks. Others would hire blacks and put them on the shittiest shifts. ...We got it from owners forbidding the managers to hire us and firing us when they came in and discovered us working. We got it from managers who'd give us day-shift only and once a month bookings. We got it from white dancers who'd ignore us if we talked to them, flick hair in our faces, spray hairspray in our direction, blow cigarette smoke in our direction, complain about "how DARK it's getting", throw your bag aside when you leave the dressing room.
As a WOC that graduated in 1992 from a highly regarded southern university, I NEVER would have thought that type of behaviour was still going on around the country, so blatantly even and in NEW YORK CITY no less. When I first read it, I was picturing the 70's. Afro's and white scarfs around your head. You have to be really strong to deal with that day in and day out.
Every once in awhile you'll see a black person on the street (mostly Americans, some brazillians) and you see everyone else doing a double take because it is such a rare occurance, especially in the provinces.
I didn't notice that in Argentina, maybe because I spoke Spanish no one cared, but in Central Europe (Slovenia in particular), it was downright uncomfortable the way people stare at you. In Southern Italy though I had my hair braided and people would just touch it. Very odd.
The problem I am having though, is outside the club from black people esp. that it looks like I am conforming to being a "Barbie-look-alike". A lot of turned heads, hard looks, laughs but if I was wearing pink hair it would be the same thing.
Don't worry. Just think of the looks if they knew you were a stripper. ;)

Thank you, I pride myself on not taking no for an answer!!!! I got the brush at a club recently! I was told they weren't hiring and wasn't even alowed to take off my coat! But four white women were filling out applications. Racism is alive and well but you can't let it stop you. I kept right on looking!
I think you're right. Older black men seem to prefer black women and younger ones prefer white or latina.

Regardless of what a man's preference is they all want a woman to be somewhat similar on their level. A white collar man usually is not going to want some uneducated woman (race not important) to sit and talk to him. The same as the white collar man who comes into a black strip club. Hell, even if he adores black women, every single WOC is not gonna get his juices going

Personally I think some white guys are really intimidated by black women. Hell, it's not even about skin color, it's about being able to connect to people and I think a lot of white men think they'll have nothing in common with a black woman...which is untrue.
Hell, I've turned skinheads out. If you just know how to connect to a person and make them realize everyone is different and the stereotypical imagine in their mind isn't correct, they'll come around. Once you go black, you never go back ;P lol

Hey Jayda -
I'll explain the question and maybe that will help. I keep reading that WOC can barely get an application filled out much less actually hired at some clubs and also that it's not uncommon for men to decide it's time for a "bathroom break" when WOC come on stage for their sets.
That said, reading on the amateur night threads, many clubs use amatuer nights as an audition tool (so if they aren't hiring WOC seems to me they aren't telling them about amateur night). Also, if you are a true amateur and just doing it for the "experience", what a horrible one it would be if no one was paying attention to you.
Does that help you understand what I'm trying to figure out? /:O

yes ma'am. In my personal exp. (other woc's please chime in), I've always been welocomed to participate in amateur night, but those mother-fuckers new full well they weren't gonna hire my ass, before I even set my pinky toe on stage!
I've come in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in contests, and then dissed when I asked about getting hired, only to watch the girls that didn't even place, get offered jobs!
This happened to me at one particular club in Phoenix, and for some reason I went back, did the contest again, and got hired. Must mention, it was probably 8 months later.
I'm rushing to pack, and drinking a lil Grey Goose, so I hope I answered u a little better.
Bottom line, go for it. You won't know until u try, Plenty of clubs will let anyone do the contest, just to have bodies in it. Some already know they aren't going to hire a WOC. Whether they are at quota, or they just don't wanna, you won't know till you do it.

I would never participate in an amateur night unless I HAD to to get hired. I tip my hat to those who do it just to win a contest or something.
I have only seen 2, one in a black club and the other in a mixed club. They were dancing for cash- I don't know if they were offered a job or not.

There really is no other explaination other than what Jada said. In a majority "white club," many black men that go in are seeking out white women. You are a rarity, thats all.
Its a numbers game; more white dancers? more white dancers are going to approach you than black dancers---because there are less of them!
I'm not just going to approach a customer b/c he's black. I have never thought, "Oh he's black, he's going to love me!" I approach customers who I think have money and want to spend it on ME.
It's hard to determine what a black customer's motive is when going in a non black club. Some black clubs are incredibly ghetto, and more well heeled blacks don't like them. It doesn't necessarily mean that those guys go into white clubs just for white girls. If they find black dancers there that click with them, they may tip and buy dances from them.
I have seen it both ways. Brothers who go to white clubs just looking to hustle naive white women, and brothers who will spend money on the right black dancer.
Bottom line, you just have to approach everyone, and if some brothers are full of shit, just leave them alone and go on to the next prospect.

I do well with older professional black men and approach them first in clubs that are predominately white. This usually ends up working well for me. One of my best and longest regulars was black and he'd come to see me at a predominately white club. He loved it there because it was a classy atmosphere, not because it was mainly white.

I just simply meant that its backwards for me to assume that a black customer is automatically going to want me based on that factor alone, thats all.
I have never cared about the dynamics in the first place, but I assume in a club with mostly white dancers ANY customer is naturally going to be approached more by white dancrs.
I personally aproach anyone that I think will work out. A customer's race is not a deciding factor for me; its his body language, his age (if i am to discriminate, lol), his attitude when dealing with other dancers.

I would never participate in an amateur night unless I HAD to to get hired. I tip my hat to those who do it just to win a contest or something.
Why not? I don't want to get hired, or even win. Just thought it could be an interesting thing to do "for the experience" after hanging out with you guys for so long now.:-*

CK I agree with your comments but my original comments was around why does a black man like myself go into a white club and get more attention from white girls than black....original comment below. I would love to hear your perspective or any others. Thanks Jada for giving your perspective...
Sorry for not reading more clearly. Ok, my take is this: Just like the other girls said, most of the time when a black customer comes into the club they are there to see white women. I RARELY get tipped or get dances sold from black customers. Hell I even had one black customer keep telling me how beautiful was, but was honest in telling me that when he goes to the strip club he only goes for white women. Reason being, because he realizes this is a fantasy and this is how he can get the girl.

Theres a lot of beautiful black dancers at my club, and several black patrons as well (I'd say they're about 50% professionals, 25% younger guys, and 25% ghetto types - though at night the club changes drastically and becomes a younger guy and ghetto dominated club. Personally, I only work day and mid shifts).
Anyway.....
The black dancers at my club definately aren't limited to black customers! They seem to be in demand with the hispanic guys, as well as the white guys. Hell, theres even white guys who will ONLY get dances from black girls. The girls seem to be doing pretty well for themselves : ).

I don't have a stage set that's in any way incredible or mind-blowing so I just would rather not. I'm not a competitive person either, I'd much rather be in the crowd than on stage when it comes to 'competing'. But I didn't mean you should do it...go ahead and good luck!

When I was the only black dancer in a white club, almost all of the black guys were cool to me and spent some money. Actually I can only remember one black guy who came specifically to see non-black dancers. Many of them told me if I wasn't there they would have left.
That isn't really the norm judging by other comments. Another thing is that the only 'all black' club in town was really shitty. Callling it a hole-in-the-wall would be a stretch.

For the record, I am not black, but do work in a club that #1 caters to white men, and #2 has about 30-35% black dancers. My advice to you is to either find a different club, work on your hustle, or quit blaming your race for you not making any money. From my experience, many guys specifically come in to see ONLY black girls, and at least 75% of the black dancers make more or equal to what the white dancers make. I think you are selling youself short. Every last one of us has been faced with rude comments, the key is to tune them out and not internalize them. I think if you tried working in a bigger, more diverse city, you will do much much better. Good luck.
First off you aren't black so you don't know how it feels to be called a nigger at work. Second when you are very attractive then most of the girls on your shift and they rather go off with a white fat chick over you what do you call it. People are still racist and im so tired of people acting so oblivious to it. Now i make money but there are days when im the only girl not making money what would you call it.

Some of my white friends don't understand when I don't even bother approaching certain custys. They say I'm not even trying, but I'm starting to learn which guys have money/are getting dances/have no color preferences. One white friend believes, when we work the day shift by ourselves, as long as a guy walks in the door he'll get a dance from her. She's right. It happens every time. She doesn't even see me as competion. But if other white girls start to come in, she gets mad. Meanwhile, I love it when there are other Black dancers around. I see as an affirmation that the custys have diverse tastes, not as a competition.
Unfortunately, she can walk out of day shift with $100-$400 while I leave with $0-200. There are a lot of Midwest custys in Vegas and she is from Minnesota. It gets frustrating. Especially when my rent is due and I don't have it.
I'm beginning to understand why I've been seeing SO many Black girls as prostitutes in this city. I'm constantly approached by pimps at work, and I just tell them that is NOT my lifestyle choice.
I love the clubs that I work in, but they just haven't been busy lately.:-\
I can see your point. There is this little white girl that i work with i can agree that she is cute. I'm the only black girl that works in the morning. We can either work for you or against you. I'm not the one to usually complaint about my race but sometimes i can see the fact that im black is working against me. I honestly look like a black barbie doll. I get it all the time. It doesn't matter if you are the hottest girl working that day they would rather go with the most unattractive lamest dancer then you. I always put on a good show when im on stage because im a firm believer that's how you sale yourself. I usually approach every customers but somedays i don't because i know my type. Usually it's guys who are in their late 30's and early 40's. I can't seem to make any money from younger guys because they say im like one of the guys around them. That's bullshit! Then some other girl come up to them and they go for a dance. It's hard to igorne that sometimes. I get tired of guys saying im not ready when i go up to them and ask for a dance then not even 5 seconds later they go with a white girl. I know every guy have their preference. Second i don't make any money off black girls. I don't even try usually they are cheap and they will go with a white girl. I can see why they go with the white girls because it's a fantasy. They probably would never be able to get a white girl in real life and this is the place where they can get one. I've been told by black guys that i was stuck up and white. I just say so what you are cheap! I believe i may have danced for 4 black guys and i've been dancing for a year. I've been told i don't like black girls, you're cute for a black girl which isn't really a compliment. I have heared the word nigger... No matter how cute you are a white girl is going to make her money before a black girl. I get my hair done professional and make done everyday. I don't wear what other girls wear. I usually make between 500 to 600 everyday. But i have to work twice as hard as a white girl. Which sucks. I have to have long conversation with them while a white girl can come up to them sit on their lap and say lets go for a dance and get them. Some older white guys can appreicate a black girls beauty where as the younger guys can't. Some are too afraid to go get dances because they are afraid of what their friends may think of them dancing with a black girl. There are days when i don't make shit. And all the other white girls do. I work at a predominatly white shit club we have girls of all races but we only have about 10 black girls out of 150. We are still there because we do make money but like i said we have to work twice as hard!

i agree with you, and i'm not even black. I think most people who are not of color don't see what we see. They don't know how different it is to walk around a predominantly white club, we can't just go up to everyone. Why? Cuz there's some guys that you just know will say no, and I get the same thing from my friends too, they tell me i'm not even trying... but sometimes I just KNOW when a guy is not gonna like me. Now i'm not black, i'm asian, but i've worked in predominantly black club and a predominantly white club... i see how the black girls get treated differently at each club. We're allowed to swtich back and forth and one of my girls.. a black girl works with me back and forth and I see how the way she acts changes drastically between clubs. In the black club she's able to be miss ghetto hoochie mama and bank off that, but in the white club she has to be little miss classy and she'll bank of that.. i dont know wat the point of this is now.. maybe that, all though people think racism is gone, and even white people will say it's gone and everything is perfectly equal now.. people of color know there is still a strong prejudice against us... maybe they don't hate us because of our ethnicity anymore, but they still don't want some of our colored asses giving them a lap dance... =X
(theres always an exception though.. there's always those guys that love them some black/asian/hispanic...and i love them too.. =))
In my opinion you can't call somebody racist if they don't like a particular type of girl, that's just nature. I had a friend who only went for black girls with very large Jo Lo style bums, I had another you only went for Asians { Chinese in this instance}, others who only like fat or skinny girls , I can't see how only liking say blue eyed blondes is really morally inferior.
Your in the entertainment industry and people are going to pick what they want to spend money on and don't have to be fair about it. Of course that does not make rudeness acceptable but I not going to start buying rap music just to show I'm not racist.

I agree with this point to a certain extent. This industry is about personal preference. There are men who prefer white, fat, hispanic, brown eyed whatever and just because they have a preference does not mean they're racist. I'm not going to say that racism doesn't exist because it definitely does, but I think we sometimes have to step back and asses ourselves and realize that there's more to selling dances than being of a certain race. I also think it's important to hold your head up high and feel like the hottest bitch in the place regardless of your race/ethnicity. Now I know Toronto is generally a liberal and accepting place, but I still hear this over here from other dancers who are WOC. If you walk in and feel inferior, guess what? people will pick up on that. Who cares if a custy doesn't like black women, cuz for everyone that doesn't, there are much more who do. Don't focus on this shit, focus on the ones who will make you rich. I've faced my fair share of racism/stereotypes but I refuse to let this change the way I feel about myself and affect my hustle. This is the world we live in. We can't change others people, but we can change the way we view situations and work on understanding and loving ourselves. Love yourself and keep your hustle strong, this is the key to success in my opinion.

If that somebody doesn't like a particular type of girl because of her race, its racial prejudice. I am talking about a scenario where, as mentioned b4, guys will turn you down because they are concerned about what others may say/think, even though they find you attractive.
I am NOT talking about who finds who/what type of gal attractive.

True, but please, if nigger is the worst thing you're ever called - that's doing pretty well.
I once had a friend who played a ugly ass big fat neo nazi. In one of his conversations to someone else he called me a nigger. You know what I said after I got done being mad and thinking about it? "Well, at least he didn't call me fat or ugly". lol If the worst thing he could think of was the color of my skin, I must be doing well.
I do know what you're talking about when a guy will pass up a hot black chick for a mediocre looking white girl. I honestly think that is just their preference though - at least you can still pride yourself you DO look better by regular people's standards.

Right on! I already said i know it's a guys preference. Nobody just blindingly saying their racist. We have experience it. Anyone who don't see what we are coming from have never experience it and when it happens it's the most hurtful thing that can happen. You know when someone doesn't like you just cause the color of your skin. Some guys would even go as far as to say i don't like black girls but you sure are pretty.

Here's the thing, there is nothing we can do to change the opinion of others. We can only change how we react to situations. I can think of many times where men have told me they don't get dances from black women, am I going to let this bother me? fuck no!! I refuse to let ignorance get to me because it's not worth the effort. What do I do? I simply move on to the next customer and refuse to take it personally. People have opinions whether they are right/wrong supportive/oppressive and there's nothing we can do about it. The only thing we can do is work on ourselves (mentally/spiritually/physically) so that the person we present to the world is one of strength, love and compassion. I don't hate the racist, I love him because like everyone in this world, he is part of a greater whole. He is living in fear and lacks the ability to feel and express love. I refuse to let his actions determine how I feel or my ability to be successful.
