Hey folks -

It might be possible that I can go. I have a brother that lives in Chicago, so I can stay with him. That would help me out with funds, making it a more likelihood that I can jet out there.

*jumping up and down in glee*

Just got off the phone with my mom and figured out babysitting for the weekend. I was worried because when I asked about these dates, she said she'd be gone, she and her hubby are going to their timeshare during that time.

Then she says, "why, do you want to come along?"

So what we decided is that my daughter and I will drive down to their timeshare separately for a few days vacation with the folks, then Wednesday night I'll leave, come home, and pack for SF! Mom will bring Aria home with her on Sunday.

Yippee!!

That's one worry to mark off my list... now just to save up some money to blow on Chicago.... navy pier, cruise, bars, clubs, dinners, FLW tour, shopping, shopping, shopping!!

^ DUDE!

Come on!

Surely you can convince the GF to come along?

lol... not sure how she would take that question. "hey honey, do you want to go to Chicago to hang out with a few of my online stripper friends?":P

She doesn't mind me going to a SC every once and awhile, but she'll be a little more critical of me hanging out and partying with a bunch of dancers/customers. SF1 was no problem, but then again, our relationship was on the rocks, and she had no idea.

Where the hell have you been, anyway?

Out-of-town and busy as hell CO... Plus having some fun at the same time .. hehe. I may have a trip report or two to post if I find the time.

How've you been?

Jesus this sounds like fun! I wish I could go! Well, can't complain too much I'll be in France...
Someone who wants to take on the t-shirt endeavor should check out www.cafepress.com because it's super easy to set up shirts (and thongs and whatever else) with designs and then they are only printed when someone orders one. So every one can go to the site - pick there size and have it mailed right to them. They are also pretty cheap and a percent of the money all goes into an account, which could be used to party in Chicago. It's pretty cool.

For those of you coming to SWFest and haven't booked your lodging yet, I noticed that rates for most hotels have gone up since earlier this week. So I went ahead and did a quick survey of the major chains at both O'Hare Airport and in Downtown Chicago (so if you're flying into Midway, sorry I can't help ya ;) )

Okay, I guess I'll get this started, bc as the Oceans pointed out, rates are only gonna go up. It's tourist season in June.

This is what I suggest. I'm starting a new thread. It's . On the new thread I'm going to write a list of my preferences, and why. If you are interested in a similar place as the previous posters, then add on anything else applicable, make any changes, indicate your preferences. If everyone going to SF who wants to stay in a hotel replies, we ought to be able to narrow down the choices and make our decision.

If you're attending SF but either

a) staying with friends or
b) don't care if you stay the same place as everyone else,

then you don't need to reply to the other thread, just indicate on THIS thread that you're taken care of, and go ahead and make your own arrangements.

I'm just trying to help out Venus (who had kinda taken on this whole thing but is prolly pretty busy in her off-line life, too) by taking on a little bit of the responsibility. If I'm overstepping my bounds, just let me know.

Okey dokey?

Ready, set, go.

love

I'm checking on cruise prices...they last about 3 hours and run about $4000.

Anyone still want to do the cruise?

Chicagoeditor
04-13-2005, 03:02 PM
Wait, that's when you rent the whole boat! I assume the architecture tour up the Chicago River is affordable. The disadvantage: you don't get to go topless 'cause you haven't rented the vessel.

VenusGoddess
04-14-2005, 05:02 AM
Well, we were talking earlier about taking a cruise on the lake...

Now the question will be...a cruise on the lake with one of these boats: http://www.spiritcitycruises.com/chicago/index.html

Or do a cruise on one of these boats: http://www.navypier.com/SubLink.cfm?Main_ID=16&Sub_ID=13

The big question is whether you want to take the tour with other people (cheaper) or rent the boat for SW Fest, only (much more expensive).

Farrah_Holiday

Aww shucks ! You mean I can't share my twins with the world ! :D

Chicagoeditor
04-14-2005, 09:36 AM
As a beat reporter I had a hard 'n' fast rule: No boat trip press events! See, when you're on a boat, you're trapped until it docks. You can't duck out early to file a story/visit a bar/visit a SC/<fill in blank>. That said, I'm happy to be trapped onboard with a SW crew--provided I remember to bring extra suntan lotion (I burn like an SOB and so will probably end up spending most of trip hiding from the sun, below decks).

The_Oceans
04-15-2005, 02:40 PM
Hey what happened to the sticky topic /:O

Anyhow, I'm now officially booked for SWFest! Booked my flight, booked my hotel, still considering whether to rent a car (I am leaning towards "yes" in case y'all wanted to make a run out to the 'burbs).

Anyhow, besides the Gay Pride parade and the Cubs/White Sox interleague baseball series, were there any other activities/events people were thinking of attending? There's quite a few plays I might consider (I don't go to the theatre much but would like to), the Moody Blues are in concert that Saturday (the 25th at the Chicago Theatre), and if there are any footy (ie. soccer) fans, the Chicago Fire play at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Katrine
04-15-2005, 03:55 PM
I'd totally be down with going to a baseball game and the Pride Parade.

Moody Blues sounds kinda dull, any good metal or hip-hop shows that weekend?

The_Oceans
04-15-2005, 05:50 PM
Kat, from the bit of searching I've done through Digital City, CitySearch, and Ticketmaster, it doesn't look like there's any major metal or hip-hop acts. Most of the listings I saw were for local DJ residents doing their weekend shows.

I'd defer to our Chicagoland locals (CE, Honey, Venus, etc.) to let us know if there's any hidden gems we could consider.

Heck, I wouldn't mind a trip to Six Flags Great America (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/index.asp)either ;)

VenusGoddess
04-18-2005, 03:41 AM
Heck, I wouldn't mind a trip to Six Flags Great America (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/index.asp)either ;)

:yuck: Six Flags is WAAAAAY over-rated...and besides, the time frame that you all are going to be here would mean waiting for almost 2 hours just to jump a 30-second ride. Now, I'm all for quickies...but, eh...not for rollercoasters. ;)

But, it would probably be cheaper than the cruises on the lake...LOL...so, we could spend Saturday at Six Flags, hit the parade on Sunday and the SC on Sunday night...

Actually, the free Web site application Evite.com might be a good way to organize this gala. And there's a function (I've never used it) for post-party pictures, for those of us with un-smashed-by-a-dancer cell phone cameras...

hmmmmmmmmmmmm....... how much we talkin' here? and are trades acceptable? :P

Hmmmm...well, that would depend on how good those trades are. Of course, money always speaks loudest and strongest...so, unless you've got some really, really good trades...I'm gonna have to say no.

How about this trade? I won't send you any pics and you just bring your ass (and your girlfriend) to the fest... ;)

Of course, I'm going to post pics...

So are we thinking primarily Thurs-Sun, or Fri-Mon? Venus you mentioned hitting a SC Sunday night... I need to know if that's the plan so I can have a sitter covered for Sunday night (I was planning on going home after the pride parade on sunday).

getting super excited......

oh, and may bring new boy I'm dating..... *contented sigh*...... so the soccer game sounds fun, since he's a fan.

Good news about the new boy, IA! Being contentedly coupled will keep you out of trouble.

VenusGoddess
04-19-2005, 11:25 AM
Well, we could always hit the club on a Saturday...but it's usually quite out of control. Sunday would probably be better. Of course, nothing is nailed down and is open to suggestions... ;)

I'm thinking the cruise is out, though...it's costly and in order to reserve the cruise...I need an exact head count and 25% cash deposit...and I'm just not willing to do that. So...we could do Six Flags...or a soccer game if one is going on for Saturday and then hit a club Saturday night.

Chicagoeditor
04-19-2005, 11:44 AM
VG has a point. An "out of control" SC sounds terrible.:P }:D Meanwhile, I hope live music is still on the agenda. There are some great venues for music and civilian public dancing.

Just to sum up a few of the events going on SWFest weekend:

Baseball (Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox, U.S. Cellular Field)
Friday 6/24 at 3:05pm, Saturday 6/25 at 3:05pm, Sunday 6/26 at 2:05pm
Single game tickets don't appear to be available online, either "yet" or "though". Since it's an interleague (and intracity) series, they may only be selling tickets at the ballpark.

Soccer (Real Salt Lake vs. Chicago Fire, Soldier Field)
Sunday 6/26 at 6:00pm
End zone seats from $15; Corner seats $20; Upper and lower bowl seats from $25-40, per Ticketmaster (http://www.ticketmaster.com/).

Six Flags Great America
open every day 10:00am-9:00pm
General admission is $45; children under 54" tall for $30, per Six Flags Great America (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/index.asp).
If we can get a firm headcount of who wants to go, and can prepay up to three days in advance, for groups of 20 or more admission is $30.50/each, plus you get one ticket free for every 20 purchased. (As a former theme park employee, I'd suggest going on Friday as the crowds wouldn't be as bad as the weekend.)

Chicago Pride Parade
Sunday 6/26, starting at noon from Halsted & Belmont to Lincoln Park.

Taste of Chicago
starts Friday 6/24 in Grant Park. Don't have any other details handy.

Taste of Chicago is a cool thing to go to. They have it every year in the summer. I went there 5 or 6 years ago, and I don't know if it still works the same way, but how it used to work was that you buy as many tickets as you want, and when you want to buy food or drinks, you give the vendor a certain number of tickets. They have a wide variety of different foods there, almost anything you can imagine. They also have entertainment there, bands, etc. It's not too expensive. I remember it was very crowded when I went though, so you may not like it if you don't like large crowds. Also, make sure you're very hungry if you go!

Katrine
04-19-2005, 05:48 PM
Mmmmmm, I love to eat!!!!

Chicagoeditor
04-19-2005, 06:08 PM
Taste of Chicago can be a little over-whelming, especially on HOT days. But maybe the gods will smile on our visitors from other parts. There's ALSO music at the Taste, which extends into the evening. So, yes, a fine suggestion.

VenusGoddess
04-19-2005, 10:04 PM
I will only go to the Taste on a week day, during "regular business hours". Otherwise, it is SO crowded...it's insane. I've noticed that the food portions get smaller and the price gets higher every year. What used to be a good thing (5 years ago) now is no good. Besides, why the hell are the letting McD's and Burger King do the Taste? >:(

If everyone wants to do the Taste, I'll think about going...but I'd prefer not to.
