Am I the only one who listens to lyrics in songs anymore? Am I the only one who thinks that some songs just ARENT sexy to strip to? Maybe I'm neurotic...

Nickleback's Never Again
Aerosmith's Janie's Got A Gun
Disturbed's Down With The Sickness (well, just the screaming-about-his-mom part of the uncut version)

Sheeeeeeeez. Not.. inspiring... me... to... be... sexy... on... stage!

I love Down with the Sickness but definetly want the DJ to cut the screaming part! Never Again is empowering to me if they play it far enough for you to find out she shoots his dumb ass!! Never understood girls who wanted to dance to Nirvana's "Rape Me" either. Ugghh...I'm not a rap girl so I don't get the more violent and raunchy rap songs. Maybe we just intellectualize (sp?) too much?

I agree Rape Me is awful who wants to promote that?

"Push", by Matchbox20

"I'm gonna push you around, I'm gonna put you down, I'm gonna take you for granted..."

Just what the guys need to hear while a dancer is on stage, lol.

The truth of the matter is, most of the time the guys are oblivious to lyrics--good, bad, indifferent--but if it affects the mood of the dancer onstage, that's another story. It's not that damned hard to remember if a dancer hates a song, unless you are working with 100 of them at once, perhaps.

I think it is equally important, as a DJ, to be aware of what a dancer doesn't like, as well as what she does. That way, if she is on a back or side stage, you can play songs the dancer on the front likes, but the one on the back can tolerate. this can make the job harder, but I think it's worth it. It's not that hard, either, if the dancers get solos, as in one on back, one solo, and one with the next dancer on backstage--so you play the song the dancer coming up hates but the dancer on front loves during the solo, and one they both like when they are both up together.

I listen to them too Paige.. when I was dancing there was a girl who loved Nicklebacks- "Figured you out"

She said, "Its such a dirty song" and I was like, "Uh? WTF are you talking about?" I told her to listen to the lyrics closely... its not a dirty song, its about a guy who finally figures out that he's with a bitch who was trying to be someone she wasn't.

I love that song though.. and I laugh every time I hear it cause I can TOTALLY relate to it... but for dancing, I just never really thought it was made for dancing to.

I am a big time lyrics person.. I love decyphering lyrics.. I guess that's why I love Metallica so much.. out of a lot of bands, they have some of the deepest lyrics I've heard.. along with Megadeath and Iron Maiden.. but I've heard some others too that are just as deep from other musicians as well.

When I danced, I would sometimes pick songs based on the lyrics.. sometimes the lyrics would be goofy as hell.. like for example, Melonie's rollerskate song...

I know a DJ who would play it over and over for his ex when she was on stage, LMAO. She just thought it was a good song, but he and I would snicker a LOT. }:D }:D

I remember a few years ago all the girls were dancing to Pink's 'family portrait'...always thought that was weird.

Sometimes when I'm in a mood I dance to Sex Type Thing by STP. I know that no one actually gets what I'm feeling when I'm dancing, but I kind of feel like I'm making fun of and putting down guys that think that way when I dance to it.

haha Scarlett that's funny. I wonder if people are really listening to the lyrics, I always do when I go to clubs, unless I've never heard the song before...

The Spawn soundtrack is one of my favorite CD's. And I really, really like track 11. But man are the lyrics frightening! I wouldn't want to encourage some serial killer!!!

You never told me why
You never gave me a reason
I can kill
I'll watch you die
Today, tomorrow
I can kill you
I don't die
I can kill, but I can't die
I can kill, but I can't die
Everlasting life is mine
I can kill, but I can't die
Imprisoned by hypocrity
Then you see me
Give up
You never told me why
You never gave me a reason
I can kill
Look into my eyes
Feel the breath of death which does die
That feeling just might change
You enclosed my name
I can kill, but I can't die
I can kill, but I can't die
I can't die
I can kill, but I can't die
I can kill, but I can't die
Everlasting life is mine
I can't die

I still think (although it's a classic) that Alice Cooper's "Only Women Bleed" is not sexy at all.

I mean we all know we do it, why promote it while on stage?

While I have never been one of those pathetic men who get squeamish about a little blood, which never stopped me from doing a damned thing, I see your point. Also, a lot of the customers, if they are actually capable of listening to the lyrics, could conceivably have a bad reaction, though this would be their loss...

I actually do have a slightly unpleasant reaction to "Pink", by Aerosmith, though they are one of my favorite dinosaur rock bands. I've played the song a zillion times for lots of different dancers, but it just strikes me as being crude and on a junior high mind level. We all know what they are talking about, and we all like it, but there are better ways to put it.

yeah I don't get people dancing to that Nickelback song. "I like my hands around your neck"?? Oh yeah, that's sexy. He sounds so rough and annoyed. I like Nickelback but for dancing? All their songs are about some tough times.

I think today's popular rap is totally unsexy, i mean, it's like tits! ::grunt:: ass! ::grunt:: and any angry hard sex we can pull out of porn. To me, it gets old. Oh, that and the Danni Minogue song that always gets stuck in my head "I Begin To Wonder", like she's a whore that had an epiphany.

Believe it or not, I actually played that song (well, a short, souped-up version, anyways) a couple of times in a very relaxed/rough/biker strip club--when two different dancers dropped by on their nights' off with their dogs, lol...

you remember that song "unleash the dragon" (rap or r&b) well i was working at this nude club and this girl was dancing to it. i was at a table near the tip rail giving table dances and i look over at this big gaping HAIRY pussy and all i could think was "PLEASE DON'T UNLEASH IT, PLEASE!!!!!!!!"

Whats funny is i can't find any songs by Chris Cornell not sexy, probably because his voice does it for me. Linkin Park same friggin thing. Nickle Back, love them too, but not all songs are sexy.

Even Enigma who i pride myself dancing to has songs that are not sexy.

I was out the other night and this chick was dancing to (remember this) Safety Dance! LOL. Cool song, but not happening for sex moves.

Oh good lord. The old version was nice to hear, but a remix of that song too? I wonder how much more groove the song could have. It already kinda sounded like a remix of any other band....:)

Ahh, here's a popular one:

Outcast - Roses (I think one of the lyrics says something like "lean a little bit closer and see that roses really smell like poo-poo). I mean, not only is there a double meaning, but who wants to hear about "poo-poo" while looking at beautiful naked women?

yeah, the dj, played that for me yesterday...

some songs tha`t really annoy me..."theres some hoes in this house" grrr :( . o anything Eminem /:O --which this one dij really lkes for some reason...

a couple of weeks ago, the dj played a susession of really depressing songs when i was onstage: 'zombie' by the cranberries, "in the ghetto" by Akon, and some really boring whitesnake song that had discernable rythim. lol
yeah, "the tanks and the bombs in ur head--therre still dying" arent too sexy-lol

i can think of a few...
"1985" dont know or care who its by
over and over- nelly & tim mcgraw. or any other songs about breakups
dont want you back- the song that goes on in obscenities about a breakup

there are plenty more....

i am a bit freaked out by some of the songs you girls mention. please, shoot your dj. and i mean that. slow depressing breakup songs are great...IN YOUR CAR. and leave them there. i don't think any custie comes to the club to be bummed out.

"Whiskey Lullaby"

WTF??? If you've never heard it it is the most depressing song in the history of country music in my opinion. It's about a guy and a girl committing suicide. :O in the song they bury them and everything. The girl wondered why she didn't make any money that night. She's played it 2x so far this weekend.

this is also not hot and should never be played in a club again:

gangsta rap
rap of any kind
bass oriented music like you hear in the hood

this type of music attracts the wrong crowd and isnt sexy or even music

Disturbed's Down With The Sickness is an awesome song but not one that i would play while in the club. Mind you i was surprised to hear it being used by a showgirl in one of our competitions. I would say it was her first competition.

Aerosmith's Janie's Got A Gun is used so often in Cowgirl sets and i can't believe the amount of girls that dont realise its a song about incest. If they would only watch the video clip or just listen to the lyrics.
And Who Let The Dogs Out, what a horrible song to use onstage

Ha ha, I hated on "Pussy Control" too. It might have been from Prince's ironic period where he was producing sub-par music to anger Warner Brothers Records due to their recording contract dispute.

I HATE this song, by NERD, I think:........ "I just wanna f*ck you/ you should bring your friends too/ I'll f*ck you and them too......" Then a petulant girl says, "Choke me, spank me, pull my hair" a bunch of times. This song makes me so angry that I thank God I'm f*cking the sweetheart bodybuilder bouncer later after work instead of the genetic misfire that I'm dancing for.

In N.E.R.D's song "Lap Dance" the refrain spoken by a squeaky female is:

Oooh baby you want me?
Oooh baby you want me?
Oooh baby you want me?
Well you can get this lap dance here for free
Now you can get this lap dance here for free
Well you can get this lap dance here for free
Oooh baby you want me?
Now you can get this lap dance here for free

I HATE THIS SONG. THE DJ'S LOVE IT. THEREFORE, I HATE THEM TOO.

I dance to a lot of pink's songs, including Family Portrait, when I'm doing stage at a club. I think I'm okay with it because I don't have that family life. I had it pretty good, so I don't identify with it. But to me it's packed with soul and so when I want a slow song with a lot of emotion, I really like that one.

I dance to that Disturbed song. If you get the edited version, it cuts out the screaming part towards the end where he goes on about how he hates his mother, etc, etc.

And omg, the dayshift DJ at my club always plays "Who Let the Dogs Out" for dayshift finale and it makes me homicidal, lol. That has to be one of the worst songs ever.

One of the lovely night DJs plays this horribly cheesy song during our T-shirt dances. It's bad enough that we have to do the T-shirt dance, but to do it to "Everybody Wants Kung-Fu Fighteeen (Hi-YAH!)...those cats were fast as lightneeen (Hi-YAH!)" is plain dancer brutality.

You know, it's not always just the lyrics, either. One day I was on stage 2 while girl on Main stage requested Beatles' "Octopus's Garden." I about died, crawled off stage, and hid. I got a vivid image of stripping to a kindergarten class while this was playing... ignore the lyrics, and it sounds like a carnival ride. No hope for it. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING!!! Why me, that's what I wanted to know...

LMAO last time I was in a SC and getting a dance; the song was a mix of "Love Is in the Air."

I love Disturbed and Slipknot, as well as some other heavy bands. I really think it depends on the dancer and how she uses the music. For example, there used to be this awesome dancer at Rick's who always picked the hard shit-- like Disturbed's "Conflict" or "Meaning of Life." "Meaning.." has some sick & rough lyrics, but the music is cool and she made it work. There she would be with her Catholic school-girl outfit (but she never played that young girl bit, thank god) dancing to this abrasive stuff. What a sensory fuck! It's like putting a color and its opposite side by side and watching them vibrate off of each other. It was great! She pulled in a lot of money. The other dancers weren't always happy about the music, but she made her bundles of cash onstage and had her VIP dances lined up.

Sorry, don't mean to off on a tangent about her (I miss her and Rick's Galleria ~sigh~)... If the lyrics suck or the subject matter is a downer, hopefully the dancer and/or the music is enough for me to be forgiving.

I guess I have never really paid attention to the lyrics I go for the sound the song has, such as a lot of deftone songs, some of theirs songs are actually rather unpleasant if you think about the lyrics, but their sound turns a lot of people on. Same with Type O Negative. But I do get what you are saying I had one dance decided at the end of her shift she wanted Blink 182's I want to fuck a dog in the ass followed by bloodhound gang's kiss me where it smells funny. Those song should be banned from at Gentelmen's clubs, but hesitant as I may have been to play those songs I had to make the dancer happy.
