^ Amen.
It's a predatory quasi-rodent. $800 buys a lot of other similarly capable rodents. Hell, I haven't spent that much on my own health care in three years. I certainly wouldn't dump it into a rodent.
But it's your money...
Two cents.
Casual!!! Are you serious? Do you even like animals out of curiosity?

Honestly, i'd probably go ahead and drop the 800$ for the surgery, but that's just me. I suppose it all depends on the animal's condition. If it was in too much pain, and surgury would extend the life of the animal but not alleviate the pain, for instance, i'd probably skip it and spend far less to have it euthanized. Keeping it around would be selfish in a case like that.
At any rate, if you can't afford it, you can't afford it and it's that simple.

No. (Ne v koyem sluchai.) He's the one who's crazy.
Pets are members of the family. Either you grasp that concept or you don't. If he doesn't, then don't waste time in arguing it. It's your money to spend as you please.
I nursed an abandoned stray cat (who truly stole my heart) through end-stage hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a hopeless, fatal heart disease). The feline cardiologists gave him three months at best. With two daily injections, five drugs and weekly visits to drain fluid off his heart, he lived happily for over two years. As they say on the blue site, "Dent: $15,000." I would do it all over again in a second.
I still miss him.
My 17-year-old white Persian, who originally belonged to my ex before she abandoned him (!!!), has diabetes. I won't get into the cost, but it requires that I give him daily injections, perform blood glucose monitoring and take him in for regular vet visits. He nearly died six months ago and in a state of panic, three vets and I pulled him back from the brink. This cat defines the term "unconditional love." I do everything for him. He does everything for me. Pretty simple.
You have a great heart! I would do the same if i was in your place. :) :heartbeat

I never did understand those people who were too scared of other human beings and could be fulfilled with a cat and a turtle. When you have a dog you're buying companionship with Alpo. It's a nice safe way to go about life, I won't argue that. As long as you keep the milkbones coming, it won't be too tempted to hang out with the neighbors.
However I want more out of my remaining years then some organism who can't talk back when I order it around.
To her happines comes in the form of some small furry thing that runs around and licks everyone's ears. To me it's getting old together, and bringing each other lemonades while we talk about all and everything in life and ponder about the magic of starting a whole new branch on the tree of humanity. I don't know if it's a function of intelligence, but before I step on anyone's toes I think I should just say that we're simply "incompatible" in that regard. If this is important enough for her to get between us, well what else can I say?

Okay, time to chime in. I'm Bella's boyfriend, if nobody believes me, shoot me an e-mail to
[email protected]
Just wanted to point a few things out. Did she mention that I have a cat and a bunny, in a small ass apartment? Both of which I saved from other owners who were going to let them loose after deciding they weren't for them? I've had animals my whole life. I went with her to AZ to buy that ferret. I built it's 4 foot tall, 2 story cage that's bigger and better then anything I've ever seen for sale. So I don't even want to hear it.
Did she tell you that I got back together with her after she cheated on me, after listening about true love and how she'd never do it again? Probably not.
The reason I don't want her to spend $800 bucks is because she's in debt already, lives with her parents (who don't want the weasel there anyway), and has to ask her dad for money just to pay off her car loan. It's just a dumb decision no matter how you slice it. It's money she doesn't have. Money she didn't have when she told me she can't pay me her half the rent. She owes me about $1000 even - money I let go, and told her not to worry about because she was in debt anyway.
Now that pookah comes up with an overactive adrenal gland (all prematurely spayed or neutered ferrets do, she just didn't do her research when she decided to buy it on a whim after seeing Jennifer Aniston with one in Along Came Polly) - she informs me that she's going to go hang out with this 60 year old guy named George, who used to be an accountant at her old club. Apperantly he is willing to pay her $400 per hour to "Hang out" - am I wrong for having a hard time swallowing that?
So when she owes me money, she doesn't have it, and doens't have any way to get it, because we both felt that going back to the clubs or private dances would only hurt things and wasn't worth it. When the ferret needs some overpriced surgery (It's only $800 in cali, just 4 hours away it's around $300) I get a call infoming me that she's going right back into that whole scene (and worse yet, that old coot, with no bouncers to protect her, no other people around whatso ever, etc etc).
Well I'm getting kind of pissed off writing all this, and losing track of what I wanted to say.. I'll come back later and add more stuff (Trust me it's more then just "getting jealous of the ferret")
Let me translate this. First of all, I'd like to thank Alex for following me on the internet. Secondly, my family loves Pookah. Thirdly, I spent $200 on the materials to make that cage. That was a project done by Alex, myself, and my little brother. Now, on to this....
ALEX told me to ask my father to pay off my remaining 4k of my car loan. However, I can make my own money, thank you very much!
I never moved in with you, Alex. I'm sorry it didn't work out. I let you have the site's profits, ebanned $$, and since you were still so butt-hurt about it, I even offered you 1K from the money I'd make dancing so you'd stop whining about it and I could get pookah her surgery. It is not 300 bucks four hours away. If it was, I would do that, duh. As for George, I've known him longer than you, Alex. I've known him over two years.
As for being jealous of pookah, that was thursday night, have you forgotten? That was a quote.

AlexE, from one stripper boyfriend to another, remember these words she used in her first post "I love my guy". Accept that, right or wrong, her priorities about money are way different than yours. If YOU needed the surgery and she wanted to strip or get the money "from the coot" to save your life , how would you feel about it? She needs to try, its important to her. Reject it, hate it, rationalize it, accept it, love her for it. Dont let this put a kink in your stripper boyfriend armour.
I'm so worked up right now, that made me cry.

Perfect example. So, I have to pick between "some small furry thing that runs around and licks everyone ears" and getting old together with a man I love? I can't have both? I feel sorry for you.

In a word, yes, I'm quite serious, and no, not only do I have no curiosity for animals, I have an active and virulent antipathy toward dogs in particular (mostly because they really seem to like me--must be a pheromone thing or something). Generally speaking however, I merely exhibit complete apathy toward animals.

Lovely.
As for Alex. If your x-gf is into you for a substantial sum, take her to court. Last I heard, our legal system was still making distinctions between the rights of people and pets. (Sorry you had to hear this, gypsy.)
Unless the ferret can obtain legal counsel, Alex, I think you've got a good shot at getting your money back.
Ugh, unless he can't because he's living their illegally! Anywayz, I heard his side, I considered his issues (Which are mainly grounded in me not wanting to go back to the club to pay him a few months ago and now he's pissed that I'd do it for my pet) and I've tried to deal with them. I've pretty much said, verbatim, "If I don't have the money, I don't and I can't pay for her surgery." This is why I've started dancing again... Why do I feel like I'm hijacking my own thread now? :-[

I fear to interject... but fools rush in....
Pets are great and I love them, but I think to some extent they are here on earth to teach us on how to deal with loss and death. Dogs will grow from puppies to old dogs and die. Likewise rats and ferrets, and cats. It is sad, but a life experience.
With our medical technology, we can spend thousands to save them.... for a short while longer. But, if we can accept that they are here for a short time we can let them go..
I always look at it as the opportunity to buy another dog or pet and give it a loving home. How many young healthy pets don't have a home?
My two cents worth...But in the end, we all do what we must.
Edited to add... I just spent $500 on my Boxer for stitches :O but he is only 3 and I love him... but, when he is 10 or 12 and needs a new hip, it will probably be a different decision... :'(
