The funny thing is,this attitude and professionalism is actually for the bennifit of the house dancers, not the prima donnas.
And they often dont even see it and bark the loudest.
Its all about the lifeboat, the person who drinks the most is usually the first to get ate.
The entertainer is a funny creature to understand.

Shark Shark!!! Lol
Yeah, it seems so few these days actully get it. I mean I will be first to say there are some real shitty Dj's out there. But our professionalism is worth it all. Anyone can get up on stage and take off thier top, i mean really how hard is that? But our job is a specialized field and an art form. I just wish more performers would understand that, alot do, but those damn premadonnas....

lol I agree, and he would have deserved it imo!!!!!!!
I think there are lines that should not be crossed.
I think the dj's should dance all over that line, but I dont think they should cross it.

My second night working at a SoCal club, I tipped the Dj what I was used to tipping back in NYC ($20). He straight up told me that it wasn't enough-in front of everyone. The manager jumped all over him. I pulled him aside and asked him what was customary. He said $1 per dance (I had done about 50). Now, topless was $15 and nude was $30 (now it's $20/$40) . The club took $5 from each topless and $12 from each nude. After that, the dj and the bouncers want the same and it's "understood" that you tip the manager, too (although he can't ask). Hmmm. You do the math.
I believe that the DJ deserves the tip out of everyone. No one else does any work to get me dances, I'm a friggin hustler. Now the Dj can run specials as long as he wants, so I work with him and tip accordingly. But don't abuse me, because there are girls that don't tip ya'll at all. I am the EASIEST dancer to work with. I bring my own music, I label my things and put Post-Its for what numbers they are on the CD, I make sure I'm on stage on time and if I'm not going to make the line -up, he knows well ahead of time. I do my 2 songs and do them well regardless of what the customers are doing. He also doesn't have to track me down to get his tip, I willingly go give him his first.
Show the ones that give you respect some back, and your shift will go much better. I'm not going to tip you to NOT f*ck with me, because you are hired for a reason. I'm not going to tip someone that plays what he wants instead of what I like (luckily for me I listen to eveything from Ozzy to Justin Timberlake to Eminem to opera-it's pretty hard to mess with me), pure and simple.

Amen!!! We have one girl I work with that makes around 2-3k a week. Her DJ tip out is $0.00. Yeah you read thst right nothing! I tip out my DJ 10%. SO if I have a bad night so does he, but if I totally bank so does he. I think it's fair; correct me if I'm wrong.
What are you doing in a place where you only get $10 for topless and $18 for nude?! I won't dance topless for anything less than $30 a song! And you better be paying me $100's for full nude, lol.
The worst thing I have heard is the greenery on the scenery deal (well heard lately anyway) I hear it all the time from the day shift DJ. I usually end up going up at least once before he is banished for the evening. ARGH, it's really sad actually.
What about hey guys, there's ( Insert name of dancer here) shaking what her doctor gave her..
I nearly died.
And some DJ's wonder why they get no tip out.. sheesh.

I want ALL Dj's to get up on stage in 6 inch heels, take off their clothes and make it sexy.
Been there, done that, just without the heels,so i know the mindset from that side as well.
Hell, I can dj with my eyes closed
Maybe in your club, but not in most mid to top level clubs.
Just the fact your a female is a strike against you and will stop you from being hired at most clubs.(and thats if your an UGLY female, cute or hottie ones stand little chance,it always adds drama to the house girls,ALWAYS!)
Then you must know music, and not just your fav brand of it,you gotta know it all.
Then you gotta have a commanding MCee voice, and be able to use it for crowd control, again, your a female and it just doesnt work often. The number of female dj's in this industries top clubs is proof of that.
Personality is a key also.
So no,im sorry,as much as you insist on slamming dj's,you CANT do what i do with your eyes closed.
You stand little chance of being able to do it with both eyes open and the house lights on.
What state are you in,i might be able to set it up where you can try to prove what your saying.
Wouldnt that be a hoot.
(and my ex is a dj on a New York radio station).
And neither can your boyfriend.
Most radio jocks cant do what we do with both eyes open and the support staff they always bring with them.
Its like saying an xray tech can do brain surgery,it just doesnt fly.
Thats why most radio jocks make less then 10 bucks an hour and most strip club dj's make 50-100K a year.
An 18 year old female, with NO work skills, can get a job as a stripper in the top club in the country.Alot does depend on looks.
An 18 year old male with no job skills, cant get a job as a dj at the top clubs, doesnt matter how he looks.
Thats not saying dancers are less then dj's,or that dj's are less then dancers, thats saying you CANT do what i do with your eyes closed, you cant even do it with them both open.

Looks like Dianna Ross on crack, after a lean black girl with an afro did her routine. Hopefully she didn't tip him. What an ass!
Also A#1 PUU TANG.
Gives me a great mental image.
Just to add my two cents worth in.. I love the DJ's, they are great ( for the most part ) I'm usually too busy doing what I do to give them much grief.. I work. I'm not one of those chicks that sit around on my butt whining about not making any money.
But what does chap my hiney is DJ's that bully the dancers for bigger tips. Guys I am human, I DO make mistakes, if I've had a good night and I don't tip so hot - SAY SOMETHING. Like I said, I work, that makes me tired and a little fuzzy in the membrane.
It's not some plot cooked up while I was hunching on that last suit for my little twenties. I didn't sit out and plan this just to make my DJ's life miserable - like he cares about me anyway! Arg.. My little mini rant.

" There's some hips that need tips"
"The ladies are doing it for tips and tips alone...no paychecks here"
"Don't just sit there and stare gentlemen, we don't come to your job and stare at you"
"That's the georgeous _____, and she's doing it, and doing it well"..UGH...
"There's no round 3 gentlemen, get up and take care of the ladies that take care of us"
"Put your hands together for the beautiful_____" and then no one claps but himself...
And at the end of the night "You don't have to go home, but you gotta get the hell out of here"....aghhhh...
We have a dancer that goes by the name Kitty, so every time she would go on stage the DJ would make the miauuuuu cat sound...or he would say some shit like "Kitty is a nice pussy"...I'm like WTF???
But I always tip the DJ good, even if I have a bad night I would tip him something...some clubs I worked at the DJ's would be really anal, and never play what you request...but at the club I'm at now he plays what you want as long as you tell him...

No DJ should ever, Ever, EVER(!!!) make his girls do roll call to "Muskrat Love" or the Partridge Family Theme Song.
Ever....

Dont you get tired of the "lets get ready to runble"or the "girls girls girls"song or the "cmon and ride the train song"??
One thing is for sure, the girls who work 3-4 nights a week sure do get tired of the cattle call song, the dj who works 4-6 nights a week REALLY hates it.
So why is it done??????
Over and over again?????
Pavlovs dog.
"good boy"to the dj who breaks ranks and throws the dogs a bone to chew on,on occasion.
Some songs that have been tried and failed real bad.....
Who let the dogs out,who who.
and the theme song to the monkeys...
Here we come...
walkin down the street...
we get the funniest looks from,
everyone we meet...
Hey hey were the monkeys!

Good thing we don't work together Big Green! Our egos wouldn't both fit in the building at the same time ;D .
You must understand that I work in one of the biggest "show clubs" in Oregon, and most nights we have less then 10 dancers working.
And I like to think that I'm pretty good at reading a crowd and judging the kind of music that they would like to hear (it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at a sea of cowboy hats and think that country might be a good choice).
I also work at clubs that insist that the dancers provide their own CD's. The Dj's have none of their own that they bring (or a very limited selection of stuff they own personally). The 8 track comment was a joke ;).
So basically I've been my own music selector for my entire career. When I went to dance in Vegas, I simply ignored any dj that might be there as I never went on stage anyway. So long as the songs were playing, and I could count how many dances I was doing. I would probably have no problem whatsoever lapdancing to whatever your heart desires to play. If I am on stage, however, I am a little pickier.
And FYI I am a review dancer (feature light!!). I would be happy to put on full feature shows when working in the SC, but it just doesn't pay (as a house girl).
This is a fun thread. I love to hear about the Egomaniacs vs. the Primadonnas!
I'm also not afraid to admit that I am a Prima Donna dancer. I just couldn't do my job any other way.

Seriously... don't do that to your chicks. That's harsh. And one of them might snap and stab you with a stiletto.
If you want to do something cute or offbeat and different, try scoring the CD that came out in the 90's of a bunch of alternative artists doing covers of cartoon theme songs. It's called "Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits". I can't speak for anyone else, but I sooooo would have been willing to do something like "Go Speedracer" or "Scooby Doo, Where Are You", or "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy".
But the Partridge Family and Capt. and Tenille have NO place whatsoever in a strip joint... for any reason... on any day...
(And I say this as someone who has few issues with DJ antics, aside from the occasional idge that tries making me dance to hip-hop - many girls can do it, but I look like an epileptic cow with that particular genre...)

::::jumps into flame retarded suit:::
Your avatar may weaken my defenses, but it dont make me stupid.
Thanks for the pointers, but just as newbie dancers are reading this forum,so do young jedi dj's,so I must touch on your lesson plan a tad.;)
Even when 8tracks were all the rage, they rarely got used in strip clubs because of the skip to the next track in the middle of the song.
It went record to cassette,to cd,to mp3.
Leave your Ipod at home or in your car where you can sing along to your fav songs.
If its a good dj,everything you could possibly have that he can play,he already has.
If he doesnt, what the hell do you pay him for??
If he doesnt have it,its NOT on format.
(the last thing a dj needs is some unheard of song in the middle of a busy night.Yea some are great, but most are fucking train wrecks)
Last thing any fucking decent dj is going to do is just give a dancer free will and just hit play on "my ipod".Just how long will the dj's comp survive with all the dancers bringing in burned cd's and ipods. Its like kissing custies, its just asking for a virus.
Just like any decent dj doesnt take a burned cd from a dancer who just says"play #5,I swear you will like it".
Yea right!!!!lolololol
There is no need for a dancer to bring music in,its provided by the dj.
You do your job,pay the dj to do his.
If you have music that he doesnt have or that he hasnt heard of,bring it in a day or so before you plan on using it so he has time to hear it.
Requesting two songs the dj has never heard of in the middle of a packed friday night is just wrong and asking for drama.
Any club, you should have kicked his ass before they walked him to the door.
While we would agree on the fart noises,I think your wrong about the "Frat house".
It is just that.
It is the mens locker room, not the ladies.
DJ's tell dirty jokes, depending on the club is how its told.
Doesnt matter if you call them "fun bags"or "personal floatation devices",its still tits your talking about.
Even in the top clubs in the country, the dj's comment on the ladies, some are gentlemen, some are not,but they are basically saying the same thing.
"Moms apple pie"can be said dirty,or it can be said clean.
I love the dj line..
"this next girl is so beautiful, its gonna make you want to go home and slap your wife".
i dont use it often, but when i do it usually gets a giggle or two.
Ok maybe im the only one,but i sure think its fuckin funny, and im probably going to use it again in the future.
Sorry Paris, whats in the club is NOT what most guys have at the house.
Thats why they are there and not sitting in thier fav chair, with the remote in one hand and a beer ffrom the fridge at half the cost in the toher, while thier wives give them lapdances.
You want them thinking of the slack ass at home getting fat watching Oprah.
Do you really think most guys come to strip clubs in order to put them in the mood to go home to mount thier wives??
Do you think custies are thinking about thier wives when they are getting a lapdance??
Do you really think that if I remind someone that they are married, they will crawl out from underneath a lapdance from you??
Fat fuckin chance.lololololol!!!!!
As will you,if I decide to break you off a piece of this KIT KAT bar,and you better bring your A-game.
DJ's play all night long, and we dont take breaks.
Its about as hard for a dancer to get laid in a strip club as it is for a dj.
Well that would depend.
The dj is also considered "safe"when it comes to the show and flirting.{sometimes even a doorguy, and usually all the waitresses)
Notice i said the show.
Any dancer who doesnt flirt with the dj during the show is missing out on some spotlight time with the guy walking around with the microphone shouting at everyones attention.
Anything else deserves an ass kicking from you before they are walked to the door.
LOL
I wouldnt do that, and im sure the guys who do,would stop, if the girls would stop screaming from the stage"WTF,this song sucks!" at them.
If we worked together, and you ever said "I pay you to play the music, not be an art critic"to me,I would have never taken a tip from you again, and played what the fuck i wanted to when your on stage.
The other 29 will pay me fine.
Now what????
Your a component in MY show.
I answer to the owner, not you.
I got 29 other girls to answer to and your not going to kill the show or drop the tempo of the room and cost the lifeboat money, period.
I work for you,you pay me,im the boss.Any questions???
I know its crazy, and dancers hate to admit the "DJ"in most top clubs and showbars are thier immediate athority figure, because we run the show.
the show you are only a component of.
The manager runs the club, the dj runs the show.
You do your job,I will do mine, and we can both sit back at the end of the night and bitch about the managers not doing thiers, while we count our money.
When you become a feature and not a house dancer, and when its your name on the sign out front, then you decide the music, not till then.
At least not in a top club or a showbar,or of course, unless your fuckin the boss, then you can hear what ya want.
#8 is wrong on so many levels in the clubs im used to working in,overselling has the same effect on a group of girls and custies as a girl undercutting.
99.9999999999999% of the time, its not up to the dj what he makes.
He doesnt set the price when he gets there,99.99999999% of the time thats just the way it was when he got there.
Clubs are different, but everyone knows what the minimum dj tip out is.
What if i decided as your dj that you had the best ass in the building and YOUR minimum should be higher then the rest of the girls??
We all know what the minimum are in our clubs, most times is was like that when we both got there.
Sorry sweety, thats why guys pay to get in,not why you pay me at the end of the night.
If you look good,I will be the first to tell you,and it wont be because i want to swap spit with you.
If you look bad,I will be the first one to tell you,and its not because you didnt swap spit with me.
I will follow both with suggestions.
My success depends on your success,im going to tell you the truth, not kiss your ass.
Besides, who wants to try to tell the difference between a butt kiss,a flirst, and a come on???
Inside a club, they pretty much all look the same.
ehhhh
im ok with this one, those are kinda lame. When said by a dj in the booth or a dancer to a custie on stage.
But in the dj's defense....
In an 8 hour shift.
3-4min songs.
20 songs per hour.
The dj has to say something at the end of every song.
comming up
standing bye
comming down
drink specials
etc etc etc
yadda yadda yadda
Thats 160 times a night we have to get a point across in 10 seconds or less.
If you work 5 shifts a week, thats 800 times a week a dj has to say something witty or informative.
Chances are, most dj's will repete themselves often.
ehhhhhh
I dont think it will fly.
You can teach guys to be any kind of other djing there is,strip club djing is a learned art form.
And art is subjective.:)
Could that be any longer....:D

Ive seen DJ's keep a list of who tips and who doesnt for the nights that they work. Sometimes I would have a bad night and say heres something but next time Ill make sure to give you 2wice as much. Hes usually cool with that. Its just when he gets all pissy and says "yea right" ...they dont know me..Im not cheap to my DJ's (only if they are a-holes or incompetint).
I havent had any horrible DJ's..thank god. Most play what I want them to play and I ALWAYS will tip them for that. I think thats awesome. Playing my music keeps me happy.
I had a DJ that played HIS music not the dancers music and babbled FOREVER before the girl got on stage. Im talkin like 1-2 minutes and I would be standing on the side of the stage waiting for his ass to shut up and play music.

#1 thing a DJ should not do is think he is "the show"
#1 thing a DJ should do is remember is that most iof his/her income comes from what the dancers tipout to him/her.
If a DJ remembers these two simple rules above all else he/she will usually be well paid in addition to being well liked.

You know at our club, none of us re required to tip out the DJ. He gets payed a salary or check from payroll.

The entire time i have been on stripperweb,i dont think i have ever seen a dj post that "He"was the show"or that the show was "about him"???
Can ya post a link??
Or was this just the impression you got from scdj's who say"I run the show".
there is a huge difference between someone who thinks the show is about them and someone who takes alot of pride in what they do.

Indeed. DJs who think its all about them are just alphatools who are trying to get laid and screw it up for the rest of us who actually give a sh*t.
Altho dancers who demand songs and refuse to tip b/c its all about them are equally delusional.

Well, since you asked:
It IS the dj's show, each of the entertainers are a component of that show, thats it.

I agree. If a dancer requests music she should indeed be tipping for it.
Dancers and DJ's should work together, not against eachother. When they work together both end up getting paid well.DJ's get paid usually by the dancers. The better a DJ is towards the dancers, the better he gets paid , more often than not anyway.
edited to add :
After reading through all 7 pages of this thread today I realize that I took the title of the thread too serious.
I thought this topic was honestly about what a DJ should and should not do in the club. Now I see I was incorrect about taking the topic at face value.

It was started as a lighthearted thread, but then kinda got seriouse, either way,its been funny to see some of the responses.
As for your pointing out where a dj said the show was all about him,I think you should reread the post of mine you quoted, your incorrect in your reading of it.
Any DJ that I would EVER hire would take this same approach to the show he was responsible for.
It is HIS show,he runs it,he runs the rotation and provides the soundtrack to the show.
Each girl is only a part of that show.
The custies come to see the overall combined show.
They dont come to see the dj,and they dont come to see 1 girl who "thinks"she is the show, they come for the combined show.
Usually its the girls who think the show is about them that have the most problems with a dj who is running his show as he should.
Guess who last longer, makes more money, and works well with thier support staff??

I have already said that Dancers and DJ's should work together, not against eachother.
Your implications that I am some kind of problem dancer is waaaaay off base.
It's rare that I even request music. I can perform to any music style even if I don't care for it. And I do it without complaint too.
I have never missed a roll call, a stage set or even been late to stage. Not even once in nearly 10 years. I am also always dressed correctly for stage and follow all the rules, should there be any.
The only DJ's I have EVER had a problem are those who are unable or unwilling to work as a team. Or in other words those who think it is THEIR show.
I am not some diva dancer. I am a professional who has been in this industry for a long time. I have worked top clubs in NYC, LV, LA , Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago as well as London and Paris too.
I have never been fired, fined or anything even close.
Where have you worked beside the Appalachian area ? Any clubs besides those in the Moon chain ? Any top clubs at all ?
