Why can't strip clubs be managed and dancers behave like "regular" businesses?
The more difficult question is how would you set things up differently to make the club's goals and the dancer's goals more in line with each other. It would probably take some radical overhauling of the way things are done. But isn't it the ones that, "think outside the box" that wind up making the most money?

About 5 years ago my business collapsed due to forces outside my control and like with everything just about every door rapidly shut. After unsuccessfully trying for a number of jobs from people who during the good times promised the world, eventually after nearly six months of pounding the streets I scored a job from one of the managers of a local strip club I used to visit as a patron as a bussie. Think it may be worth sharing some of the ideas I generated in a one month stint as a busboy.

1. The first common goal ( management and dancers) is that if there are more patrons who visit the SC , the probability is high that both dancers and management will make more money. Strip club patrons come to see the girls so the best people to be involved with promotions/ marketing would be the dancers. The suggestion was to print business cards with the girls dance name and entitle the patron to a discount on the door fee when they presented the card, which would be valid from Sunday to Thursday ( ie quieter nights). The girl get a tip out of the card but there is also a " competition" as to who gets the highest number of cards at the end of the week entitling the girl to one week of no house fee.

Whilst it may not seem like a lot of money, it brings more custies to the door, promotes dancers generating customer loyalty.

2. The second one was to do with the "guardian dancer" which senior dancer(s) are allocated new dancers who she looks after. This way the new girls treat the customers right as well as get through the hardest phase, which is problems during start up. This is in exchange for a no house fee for the guardian dancer. One of the big problems was that the average age was dropping to about 21 from 26. This was causing a fair few problems, as for many of the 18 - 19 year olds this was their first job and so the problems with the job were not weighed up to the benefits as there was no past experience to compare this with.

Anyways for the record neither of these was taken seriously... I got another job shortly thereafter and came back as a custie...

Not having worked in in a strip club you were able to bring a different perspective to things. Too bad they didn't listen to you and try some new things.

Interesting article in Playboy about unionizing SCs. Also a mention of a dancer/female owned club.

I think those are great well conceived ideas Luke. But what would you know, as a busy boy custy and all. I mean those managers are Havard trained businessmen, Donald Trumps all of them. Right?
