Well, they are coming tonight. There's no talking them out of it.
I'm going to deal with it by saying "If I'm going to be good at this, I have to learn how to work under ANY conditions, so if I have shitty ones my first night that I can deal with, I may be able to do this successfuly"
OMG
I leave work to head to the club in less than 2 hours.
I'm sooo nervous.
I had a dream last night that I had a hair disaster and couldnt go through with it.

Good luck! Have fun and don't take it too seriously...you won't be as nervous. Just remember that new girls can capitalize on the value of being 'un visage nouveau.'

If need be, use the ultimate guilt trip on these "friends" of yours. Something like "I you two are truly my friends, you wouldn't make a political platform against what i choose to do to better my financial situation" or "Unless you're gonna pay my bills, I suggest that you keep your politics out of my wallet". Try it if they start to act a fool!!!

:::sigh::::
so, I did not have a good night
I made about $70 after tip out.
I know I did a lot of things wrong, I'm not discouraged, I hope to have a better night tonight
*I wore my hair straight, against my better judgment, and had to blow dry it after every dance (stage or VIP) because it kept frizzing up
(Today, it's back to the natural curly)
*I did not wear the outfit I wanted to wear as my first outfit because the hiring manager/trainer didn't like it, but I eventually changed
*I tried to use the "its my first time dancing" thing as a pitch, i.e. 'Don't you want to pop my proverbial cherry,' 'I'm looking for a man brave enough to help me get my training wheels off,' etc, pretty lame in retrospect and also made guys dubious of my skills
*I spent too much time talking to each customer, even after I knew they werent buying (They just kept me trapped in these freakin conversations....a lot of guys thought I was their soulmate, wanted to take me out, but didnt want to buy dances)
*I was late for my stage dances 2-3 times. I just could NOT hear the DJ calling my name until it was too late! Or I would end up at the wrong stage (there's 3). Ugh! It was terrible
*As a result, I never really got comfortable on stage. My stage dances were weak. Period. I know I can do better
*My knees are sore and bruised up now from crawling and stuff
anyway..... please help me guys

Oh Jade, it will get better.
Every job is similar to that on your first day. Now that you have got more of a feeling of what you need to do you will be able to feel more comfortable.
U didn't mention your friends... did they stay away?
I hope your next few nights get better ~~ I know they will!! :goodvibes

It will definitely get better for you...I'm still new, my stage still sucks relatively speaking, my knees still bruise...but the money is there. Be optimistic. I get wedged into long convos with non-buyers as well. It's the downside of being a good conversationalist, I figure ;) The best way to get out of them is to say, even if you have to interrupt (sometimes you have no choice) "Oh, I am really enjoying talking to you, but I think the DJ is calling me over" or "Oh, I promised that gentleman a dance and he's ready, but I'll be happy to dance for you when I get back"...try to mesh and escape with a sales pitch. It takes a while for the skills I suppose.
Oh, and as for the 'newness'- I refer to mine occasionally still. Sometimes it seems appropriate, depending on the customer. They usually ask how I like it or whatever and I say "oh, I'll still a bit stiff on stage, but the rest just comes naturally" (wink, touch his arm, etc). It seems to work well.

Jade thats good. $70 bucks after tip out. I keep imagining that if I do get into a club that I will only make like $30 after tip out. Day Shift. Dont get discouraged.

Please let me know if you guys are getting tired of the 'Jade' saga, and I will leave it alone, but I thought it was approproate to post an update:
So much better! I had a great time last night, and I made some money....Only about $200 (which I know is little compared to the other girls) but still good.
My confidence level was so much better, my stage still sucks, but did improve (I made a pretty nice amount on stage last night, compared to almost none the first night)
My only problem now is stamina.... this job is PAINFUL
My toes are still numb and I've been barefoot for 12 hours now
My whole body aches and I have bruises everywhere, I didn't get to sleep till 5am, had to wake up at 9 for my other job and now I'm getting ready to go back for my 7 oclock shift! How do you guys do it, I may die of exhaustion!
Anyway, I have a tub full of baby oil and epsom salt about to run over, so I gotta go handle that, but thanks for all of the encouragement!!!

You get used to the shoes. I went home after my first night in a lot of pain, and the next day my knees wouldn't support me long enough for me to walk down the stairs. It was hardest on my knees. It gets a little better as you go, and last night after my sixth shift in 4 weeks, I went home after 8 hours with no pain at all. It still feels good to kick them off, but it doesn't destroy your knees anymore.
I find that my 7.5" heels support my ankles better than my 5" and 6" heels for some reason. I still can't wear the 5" heels very long or my ankles start screaming, and I still get a little ankle pain with my 6" heels, but the others are fine. Maybe it's because I wear the higher ones more, I don't know.

you go girl.....the pain will go and then it becomes second nature to you....after a month of dancing ..no matter what you do in the future you wil always be able to run in a pair or heels......make s you think Charlies Angels....but yes, it will get better , 200.00...you go girl that is half of my rent right there, just think in a week all your bills are paid and then you get to save for the next month and you can go SHOPPING...

Oh, and no my friends did NOT stay away ! I found out early that night that it's actually against club rules to have friends, boyfriends, spouses, relatives at the club so I could have gotten them kicked out.
Oh... I totally blew it, fell asleep at like 5pm this afternoon and missed my shift... I woke up at some point and called in sick, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna fine me :(
Anecdotal moments from last night:
I had two guys seriously proposition me for sex, and one that really wanted to date me.
1) Guy bought 3 dances upfront, but the whole time kept saying "No, really, I want to FUCK you. Can I fuck you? Are you on birth control? I would EAT your birth control! I wanna FUCK you girl! Could you take all this dick? It's about this big" :::gestures about a foot and a half::::
:/
eat my birth control?
2) Guy gestures me over, wants to buy a dance for his father. Keeps probing me for details about what goes on in the VIP room. I explain. "Private dances, full nude, full contact" He asks "But what are you gonna do for him? My father doesnt want to be teased, he's a grown man." Father, old and grumpy, taps me. "What goes on back there in the champagne room?" I repeat. "Full contact means fucking?" No. "Well, thats the only thing thats FULL contact. Fucking." I politely tell them I think they're in the wrong club and I hope they find what they're looking for.
3) My first dance of the night....wish I could remember his name... such a sweetie. Bought a nude dance, but didn't want me to take off everything. Just sit on his lap and talk to him. Gave me hints all night on who was really diggin me on stage so I could approach them for a dance. Said I have a really strong personality and if I would just call him he would stop going to strip clubs altogether so I wouldnt have to worry about getting in trouble for dating a customer. Really sincere guy...I feel bad for letting him think I would call him
PS - I havent bought real shoes yet because Im hesitant to make that investment. Every night I feel like maybe it's my last night, and its not till the next night that i know I still wanna do it. So, I'm wearing regular black strappy heels, about 4 inches. I want to try the big stripper shoes because I think they'll be easier on my ankles and the ball of my foot... because they have the front platform leveling out the incline a little. But I'm not prepared to spend that kind of money

Hey sweetheart,
I'm a fellow Chicago dancer. Don't worry about being different. Every guy has their own preference in woman. Which clubs did you try exactly? At this moment, Chicago isn't in the strip club season. Maybe you should try an agency. Chicago is very strict with their entertainment companies and they are very, very safe. Because this is football season, there is great need for waitresses. I dance from January-August normally and waitress or do bachelor parties from Sept-Dec. Honey, please message me and I can try to help you out okay? Plus, here in Chicago many of the 18+ places have now changed to BYOB so dancers must be 21+.

I know the club you are referring to with the amazon type chick. That club is Arnies in Harvey Illinois. Your probably referring to the dancer, ButterFly. She has an awesome body.
Alot of money used to be made in that club, 700 plus a night. Nowadays, I haven't really heard of any monies being made in there. Hell, you have to hustle like crazy to get the tip out back that starts at 250 and more for some girls.
The other spots your talking about are not far from Arnies. Club O and the other one around the corner from it.
Try trimming down 10 pounds and check out Club O.

If you want to be a dancer...go for it!!! The worst they can tell you is no. In the meantime maybe maybe work on losing a few pounds, and definitely invest in a bikkini wax (in this business hair is a no-no, its just not considered sexy)...Good Luck if you decide to do it...Lex

I don't think your weight is a problem. You said you are big boned, not fat. Men like women of all shapes, seriously.... don't fret it. Check out some of the other threads. I started dancing at 165, and I am 5'4", but I carry it well... basically because I have been in sports my whole life... I have a muscular build. Can't help it, I made great money tho. I think the added height from my shoes helped me look more proportioned also.
JadeLondon
09-26-2005, 12:22 AM
well I've been dancing for two weeks now
there are some days I hate it and other i feel great
my weight has become such a non-issue... i look good, i feel good, guys think im sexy. I am definitely not the biggest girl in my club, and a lot of the smaller girls have very distinct stretch marks ALL over their stomachs, so even with a little extra chub, i feel damn confident. plus, i HAVE tightened up a lot in just the 2 weeks ive been dancing.
i need to work on my hustle. im only selling about 8-12 dances a night (about $200), which in terms of money, is fine for me (im a student working to gradually pay off tuition, i have a day job, this is supplemental). most of the other girls have kids, credit card debt, car notes, etc.
friday night was horrible, i only had like 4 dances all night... i left early and they gave me shit about it. but last night, saturday, was much better.
im in soooo much pain still. i hate working more than two days in a row. the tips of my toes are like permanently numb....i have aches and bruises everwhere.
its been a good experience so far. my goal is to stick with it for a 10 week minimum (every couple of days, i think im gonna quit, but i change my mind).
i have NOT been able to hustle white guys at all... the few that i've approached have been really unwelcoming so i've started avoiding them. that hurts my money of course, but i've noticed that i get caught up in really long conversations a lot because i feel more comfortable standing there and talking to a guy thats nice and easy going, even if i know he's not spending, than to keep prancing around and getting the run-around from jerkier guys.
i guess because my financial situation isnt dependent on what i make in the club, my motivation isnt as high as other girls. and when my feet start really killing me toward the end of the night, i'll spend 30 or 45 minutes talking to a guy I like instead of walking around.
i may not be cut out for this job. im gonna stick with it, but i dont think i have the necessary skills. my stage is getting better, but is still weak. my drive on the floor isnt high enough.
but here i am
im doing it
about to make my 1st tuition payment of $1000.
just 3 more to go... for this quarter

I think you should be a writer.
Clearly, you have a knack for making people interested in what you have to say. English major by any chance? When all is said and done, your story would make a good article in a magazine or newspaper. You could probably sell it and get it published. Sounds like something I would read about in "BUST" or "Jane".
Good luck, Jade!

09-26-2005, 03:48 AM
OMG! I was thinking the same thing, you should truly be a writer, or a ghost-writer for someone else. I wish Karrine Steffan's book had your narration;)

Ha. Yes, English Major.
A big part of the reason I haven't been able to 'hustle'; I start talking to guys, they realize I have more than dollar signs rattling around in my skull and then they want to either discuss my major, my university, my career goals, or play savior (You know: "What's a girl like you doing in a place like this" shit)
and a journalist friend of mine (also interested in dancing!) is thinking about running this saga as an article in the independent campus paper - mainly to guilt-trip the financial aid office. something along the lines of 'From Scholars to Strippers: When College Aid Just Won't Cut It'

haha, this was an excellent story! I really enjoyed reading about your life and what it takes to be a stripper! I'm also looking into starting in a few months. I'm trying to tone up and i'll be taking a pole dancing class to learn what the heck to do up there. I'm not one of those girls who can just get up there and learn while she works, I like to know i can work it before i get on stage! I know I have what it takes, but i'm a perfectionist, and therefore am cursed to forever improve upon myself and to make damn sure I know what i'm doing before I go ahead and do it!
I find it interesting you are actually an English major! I have always loved to write, was going to go to college for journalism and broadcasting as well, but never quite made it.
Today I'm a stay at home mother to my wonderful 22 month old daughter, Kearra.
My husband completely supports my drive to dance. It's wonderful to have a man who understands me so well!
So anyways, Good luck with your college courses and as a stripper! I would certaintly love to hear how you are doing now and if the pain has subsided yet! Take care and take lots of baths!

Jade,
Your toes will start getting better with time. Make sure to look for shoes that are more of a platform than an actual raised heel. The dancer shoes will help. Are you still wearing your 4 inchers? That could be why. Make sure to elevate your feet for an hour a day if you can manage to spare the time.
I think you are doing great. I'm with you on hustling white guys. I think mid 20 and mid 30 white guys are just cheap. I'm not trying to make it a black & white issue, I just think from my past experience that they waste there money on other entertainment and expect it [entertainment] free from women at those ages. I got to the point of almost always ignoring them. But I changed it around and would start walking by smiling and flirting and saying "hi boy's" or "gentlemen" and not even stopping, but I'd give them "the eyes" and keep on walking like I was too busy for them. :flirt:
funtasticFerra
09-27-2005, 10:58 AM
Phedre that is a great way to make them curious! Alot of the times "white" males in their 20's or so like the chase. Even if you are actually unattainable they like to think they can have you. But...they like to think they have to work for it as well. If you just come up and say, hey wanna dance, they are probably going to blow you off. But if you make them interested, walk by a couple times, give them that look, sit down for a second and ask them about something interested that will really make them think and then leave, you'll have em hooked!
Stripping is an art, and it's also about selling yourself. You have a service, and you have to learn how to sell yourself to them. There are always going to be men or boys that aren't interested pass them up and go for the good ones you know are really into you!

hey jade,
am new on this site, and i just read your story, i don't know alot about dancing at all, but have been thinking about becoming a dancer, for the same kind of reasons as you. I too am not skinny, but i wouldn't say fat either, i work out alot and am a martial arts instructor part time, but it doesn't pay to well, and have been taking pole dancing lessons for fun.
I had been real apprehensive about looking for a job, because i'm not slight in build, i'm very cury with big strong thighs and arms, i personally like the way i look, but didn't think it would be well recieved in a club, from the very limited insight into this industry i have had, but you have completely inspired me to have a go, and i'm no longer apprehensive, i'm pleased to hear of your success in getting a job.
i wish you the best in your studies and dancing xxx

Tonight a young, short, chubby Mexican man called me over to his table
He asked me how much dances are, I told him.
I invited him back after a few lines of chat, and he said
"Nah, actually I'm gonna pass. You don't look that good."
I laughed in his face.
I'm still laughing
I said "OK that's cool - you're missing out though. But hey, keep it real. I hope you enjoy your night."
he gave me some snarky "missing out on what? yeah right" comment as I walked away
about twenty minutes (and 3 VIP dances and an outfit change) later - he calls me over AGAIN
asks me how much the dances are
AGAIN
I tell him
AGAIN
he says "Nah man that's too much, fuck this shit man" and walks off in a huff
uhhhh....

Ay, cabron. He probably realized just then he couldn't put the purchase on his food stamp card, so he bailed.
Seriously, though, what's up with cheap men who go to strip clubs? It's not like you have to be flashing wads of cash, but don't go to one if you don't have enough money for at least one dance!

I work with two girls who are heavier set and they are great dancers but they are both very depressed from there job when guys get up away from the stage and don't buy dances with them and they don't make much money....my advice may sound harsh but definitly try and lose as much weight as you can, you can cover up your stretch marks with sally hansen airbrush and as well as being black I wouldn't worry about it, one thing to remember is your going to make as much money according to how hot you are, I know a girl who probably doesn't even make 4,500 in a year and it's cause customers don't find her attractive not because of her face or her sexuality but because of her body even a busted girl can make money if she has a sexy bod

Hey Jade, there are *always* a-holes like that Hispanic guy, I'll bet he was just as much a jerk to every other girl he spoke to. I'll get guys like that who will call me over & ask me to spin around or show them my ass, and have learned that most of them only do that so they can talk sh*t to me. I tell them they can watch my a$$ walk away. Most guys interested in a dance won't act that way, they already know they like you, and most already know what a dance costs, so don't give the jerks the time of day. They don't even deserve to speak to you. Some guys, sadly, go to strip clubs because they think they can diss the dancers and we have to take it. In my experience, usually they are really young, or guys who could never even get you to look at them in a regular bar. Some guys are angry at women in general, and some are just jerks. Many are pretty nice guys, find them and disregard the rest. Remember, these guys paid to come in & watch naked women so don't buy in to any bs that they are too good for you.

My two cents to Hardbodies_Lady:
Not every guy has the same opinion of what a hot bod is. For that matter, there are many so called "hot" women that are not sexy in the least, and as many so called "not-so-hots" that are. There are women at my club that (I personally don't think) are very physically attractive leaving the so-called "hotties" earnings in the dust. Also depends on where you are, some areas love the skinny, big fake boob, blondes; others prefer corn-fed. Some prefer a pretty face over a hot bod, others just the opposite. Get real girl, and get over yourself.

hey,
Women comes beautiful in all shape, color and sizes. Men love women! Were ever you go and strip. You might have some issues, it dose not matter if it's race, size, or just the enviroment. Nobody eat just steak everyday, every now again people want chicken. There might be clubs that really don't like to hired black women. But don't let that stop you! If it dose happen what don't kill you makes you stronger! There will be times that people make comments, or times where you fill awkward! But You are there to make money. Not care how about what people may think of you! Most people are jerks that come to club. But there are a lot people at the same time who are not! SO ma don't worry about you race or size , go shake that ass and make that money. To me you sound pretty nice!My dad is puerto rican black. you will be fine ma

I only know what I've read here, and I don't think blacks are discriminated against, because in every club you will have black girls....but a lot of clubs limit the number of black girls they hire.
If they limit the amount of black girls that they hire than YES that is discrimination! I have been reading alot of post about how black girls are mistreated! And I know nobody wants to offend anybody. But everytime I read it, It makes me so Mad!! Just like the other posts I had read saying something like if 2 black girls went into a club together, they are not going to get hired!! That is bullshit!! Maybe if they go into a white club they wont. But I know A black manager will hire them Quick! Understanding that they are best friends and all. I am not racist!! i am not posting this to offend anybody, but please for now on when you are chatting about a racial issue, Try to watch what you type!!
