OK, now I'm feeling it....spent $32.00 for 8 gallons of gas today in NYC. I used to be able to completely FILL UP for around $25.

It actually went down today. One frigging penny a gallon. Thankfully my tank has been full since Wednesday as I haven't driven the car much. I want a full tank so I can get home without stopping. I was fearing there would be shortages.

By the looks of the traffic I've seen, a lot of folks slashed their Labor Day plans considerably. Not as fun a vacation as I had hoped, but I haven't had this much quality time with the folks in years. You learn to make lemonade out of lemons I guess.

Some of the towns around me are totally out of gas. My town is 3.40 a gallon for regular. The town I work in is 3.28 for regular so I've been getting it there.

AHEM:

$1.18 a litre, which is about $4.47/gallon.

up from about $1/litre, or $3.79/gallon.

It gets worse, kids.

What the hell I don't get is places like mine. And Gynger's, and Krissy's.

Last Monday it was $2.38 a gallon, and yesterday it was $3.54 at some places. Over one fuckin dollar. And I live in BFE Kentucky to boot. I just don't get it.

When gas is higher a gallon in Kentucky than in some places in NYC that's just crazy.

Somethings gotta give soon, for real.

We've experienced a 25-40% increase in past few days in my area. Looks like you've experienced an 18% increase. Granted, 18% is bad, but not as bad as many areas in the US (e.g. some areas in Atlanta are over $5/gallon, or a 200% increase!!)

In terms of economic impact, it's not necessarily the total cost, but the corresponding percentage increase that will have the biggest economic effect.

In my area, Northern NJ, the cheapest is $3.12 and the most expensive I've seen is $3.35 for regular unleaded. The good news is that prices are slowly starting to drop.

Agreed. A thread on gas prices has been running in Dollar Den since before Katrina hit, when we thought that $2.40 was expensive ! Katrina's forcing the shutdown of La oil refineries and distribution pipelines has emphasized just how marginal the USA is on refining capacity, where a new refinery hasn't been built in the last 20 years or so.

Supply/pricing on gasoline is not going to get a lot better as the months pass either, mainly because the refineries that ARE coming back online must produce all the gasoline they can to make good the shortfall of the last 2 weeks which has emptied regional storage tanks from Florida to New York. However heating season is right around the corner, and these refineries cannot produce gasoline and heating oil at the same time.

Don't know if anyone's posted about UK prices before...but London hit £1.00 a litre today - that's $6.96 per US gallon. Guess I will have to use "the tube" to save my bucks for dances!

Yes but the fundamental fallacy of any comparison of US gasoline prices to UK/Canada/Mexican gasoline prices is that we don't get to see how much of the price is for the gasoline itself versus how much of the price is actually for hidden taxes.

In South Dakota where I am working this week gas has dropped from $3.09-$3.14 a gallon, to $2.89, and $2.85 at one station today. The Minneapolis area was running gas cheaper at $2.79 over the weekend.

The highest gas prices I have ever seen are in Needles CA. 3 weeks ago they were running $3.36 a gallon, and I suspect they are around $4.00 a gallon now.

San Francisco- $6.00 a gallon for Supreme..... $4.15 for unleaded. (at a chevron on Van Ness) That's why I say, thank god I live on the other side of that bridge. I can still get a gallon of unleaded at $2.76 on High Street in Oakland.... for now. Well, then again that was 4 days ago. I'm certain it's gone up by now.

As far as prices never going below $2.70, I agree. The oil companies are making a killing and why would they give consumers a break when they can extort from the consumers?

I read just the other day that they have been having record high profits.
