"Uzamaki",
"Eat,Drink,Man,Woman",
"Raise The Red Lantern".
These are all Asian foreign films.
I'm a bit of a twisted dark soul,
Cannabal the Musical-Early Trey Parker's work about a man on trial for the bloody murder and cannabalism of his trail mates on a trip over the Donner Pass and his story of the events that transpired. There's also a love triangle between him, a sweet girl and his horse, but... it's a musical.
Last Night-I think it's Brit made. It seems to follow a guy around at the eve of the end of mankind and all life on earth. It stuck me at how it shows the chaos and breakdown of social/moral fabric in a very real solumn way.
Wild at Heart-An old favorite of mine from the eighties with a young Nicoles Cage. It's kind of a white trash love story that revolves around his girlfriend's crazy mother trying to have him killed.

Breakfast of Champions....I don't care what anyone says. This was as good as adaptations ever get.
Telling Lies in America....Kevin Bacon, Brad Renfro, really cute but with unexpected teeth.
The Secret Lives of Dentists...Hope Davis and a story so good it makes me forget Jane Smiley wrote the book.
Heaven...I know it overuses that chamber piece called Sien vil Sien or whatever (yes, I misspelled that completely) to get the point across, but never was Cate Blanchett so shaved-head sexy.
and all my beloved CanadaFilm favs: waydowntown, falling angels, ginger snaps 1 and 2, stardom, and les invasions barbares (won the oscar!)

A Civil Action w/ John Travolta & William Macy- the last 5 minutes are memorable because it really, truly happened.

I'll chime in on the like for Rules of Attraction, for its sheer bluntness.
My favorite "unknowns":
Groove - indie film about a rave night in San Francisco.
Center of the World - Dot-com geek falls RIL for an L.A. stripper, hires her to spend the weekend with him in Vegas, plus all the car-wreck drama you would expect. A "how not to behave with dancers" movie for me. Stars Peter Sarsgaard, Molly Parker, and Carla Gugino.
American Flyers - Kevin Costner's first sports movie, about a professional cyclist who convinces his kid brother to ride with him in a major bike race in Colorado. Came out just after the 1984 Summer Olympics and tries to capitalize on it. Also stars Rae Dawn Chong, Alexandra Paul, and John Amos.
With A Friend Like A Harry (also called Harry, He's Here To Help) - French film about a psychopath who runs into a high school pal on vacation with his family, and successfully worms his way into their lives.
Nathalie - French film starring Gerard Depardieu as a man who's become disenchanted with his marriage, and Emmanuelle Beart as the prostitute hired by his wife to investigate whether he's been unfaithful.
