I used to go for the 'uber-goth' look my first year dancing, meaning black dreads down to my ass, knee high boots, black everything. Eventually I learned that while I felt great because I was expressing myself at work, the customers in my town did not really like it much and my money suffered as a result of that. In fact, most of them were unfortunately downright terrified of me if I remember correctly. I live in the Bible Belt tho.
I ended up toning things down quite a bit, dyed my hair platinum, got rid of the dreads, took out some piercings, and wore less aggressive attire.
I like to call my look 'Satanic Barbie'-ish because I still do wear fishnets, and tall heels and dark colors but opt for porn star makeup, long platinum extensions and mix in a lot of glittery things to soften it up a bit. It's enough to be edgy but still just conventional enough to I appeal to a wider audience. Because if I'm going to be stripping, I might as well maximize my potential to make money while I'm doing it.
To make myself feel better about the trade off, I dress in black 24/7 outside of work. lol
