I am a long-standing and prominent member of the Breast Worshippers

Geez, I go out of town for a few days and wind up missing all the fun ! Presumeably, at some point I was 'ordained' as a high priestess of Breast Worshippers (I think after my 5th boob job) LOL. I'm also actively 'proselytizing' new membership all the time ... new worshippers, kneel before me and bring plenty of money !

To answer the original question, I was raised as a 7th day adventist (talk about hypocritical extremist religions !). Over the years I have found my real 'beliefs' lie at the exact opposite end of the spectrum (it turns out I'm a natural witch).

I have to agree with Venus that some of today's 'neo-pagans' are giving people with beliefs at our end of the spectrum a very bad rep.

Religion has been used for control of the masses, but I don't believe it started that way - rather, it began as an explanation for the physical and celestial environment that primitive humans (and many humans today) were not equipped to properly observe and comprehend.

I believe the same thing, Jay. Further, religion became an early basis of social laws, because it used fear as a motivator. Problem is that religion did not give enough control that was gradually needed and the religious leaders diverged in their interpretations too widely to be useful for controlling a diverse society. So secular laws became necessary. Some reactionary societies still try to force religious interpretation as a substitute for the required justice and enforcement systems.

good reply...... the thing that erks me is that we've grown so much since those times, scientifically etc..... And people still haven't out grown religion. the church was the law back then. Religion was a way of keeping the fear of the unknown explained in magical terms. "you're going to die if you eat that pork because god says so..." NO! You're going to die from eating that pork because you don't know how to keep it preserved and disease free........ you don't even know what a disease is! Snap forward to 2005 and people still won't eat pork because they think god will kill them or punish them for it????!! Come on........really. it's ridiculous.

I really don't care. TO each their own as long as it make you happy. Just don't try to get me involved into your own personal beliefs or tell me that i'm wrong for not believeing what you believe. Only then is religion wrong to me

Worship my ancestors. Pop into Iglesia Catolica once in a while. Owe my life to God. I should be dead a few times over.

Thanks to JayZeno for a more detailed explanation of deist beliefs.

Another philosophy that I am not well versed in which was mentioned in this thread was Nihilism . I took some time to research it this morning. Here are the basics of what I found. I must admit I found it rather disturbing :

Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated .

A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy.

By the late 20th century, "nihilism" had assumed two different castes. In one form, "nihilist" is used to characterize the postmodern man, a dehumanized conformist, alienated, indifferent, and baffled, directing psychological energy into hedonistic narcissism or into a deep ressentiment that often explodes in violence. This perspective is derived from the existentialists' reflections on nihilism stripped of any hopeful expectations, leaving only the experience of sickness, decay, and disintegration.

While I always try to respect other peoples beliefs, I do have trouble understanding why someone would choose this way of thinking. :-X

Methodist and accepting of everyone's beliefs although I lose patience with those that want to control everyone, those who absolutely know what "IS RIGHT", and those who are ignorant as a preferred state of existence in this life.

With apologies to nihilists, although they shouldn't really care:

One of the funniest movie moments (for me) was in "The Big Lebowski" when the little group of nihilists (why would nihilists be in a group?) was yelling, "It's not fair!"

"Fair?! Who's the fucking nihilists around here, you bunch of crybabies?!"

Damn, I love that movie.

I grew up Catholic in a pretty religious family. We went to church every Sunday and I even went to Catholic school up until high school. However, I consider myself agnostic now.

I was born and raised Medthodist, but I have since (4 almost 5 yrs ago) converted to Judasim.

I go to a Reform Jewish Temple.

I always felt like worshipping Jesus was a lie, and that it couldn't be real and true and just. Then I found Judasim and it all made sense.

Even my Rabbi whom I went through for the conversion, said it was like I was meant to be Jewish and not Christian.
