Okay, I'm starting this thread here because the proposed new forum isn't open yet; when/if it opens, y'all can move the thread over there.

I'm curious about private party dancing in Portland.

Which are good agencies to work for? National, local? I want the dirt on these employers. I also want to know whether it's better to go through an agency or to set up shop on my own. I can see some clear advantages to going independently (namely, the ability to self-promote) but it seems like it'd also be a big pain in the butt to find and pay a trustworthy driver/bouncer.

How much contact is expected in private parties around this area?

I'm interested in hearing feedback from private dancers (not just in this area) on what your ground rules usually are and how you make them clear.

Well I'm in southern Ohio. It is VERY strict here. Shit, we don't even have strip clubs in Cincinnati, Ohio because it's illegal (ummm can you say Conservative as all hell) Anyway, you could go the route of being an independent dancer. You just have no know what types of licenses you will need. It would be hard to me to be a LEGAL private dancer in Cincy/Indy/KY because in Ohio alone, you need a license for each suburb/ordinance. How sucky is that huh?

When I went to work as a private dancer, I just went in my phone book under "adult" entertainers. That's where most men go when they want some company, so you should too.

When I got trained, my trainer would come in the room, small talk about 2 min. She'd then say, "ok now I gotta collect some money from ya" After collection, she would say, " Tipping is optional. Most men pay each girl between $50-$100+. $100+ you can get most comfortable." She did not allow ANY TOUCHING whatso ever. They were allowed to touch our legs (mid-thigh to ankle ONLY) and arms.

If a guy get's to handsy (which is kinda rare) we'd just tell him playfully, "oh no honey, you can't touch there, you can touch HERE though" it would just give them a reminder. My trainer did tell me that if a man cannot cooperate that you are allowed to leave. Actually once you get topless, then the show has officially started, so thus NO REFUNDS after this point.

Hope this help Chaos. Also, I hope the Private Forum opens up soon too!! woot woot!!!

In terms of you touching them, how much of what was expected?

In this city, clubs don't usually have full-contact lapdances. I'd be comfortable with some amount of contact, but I don't think I'd be comfortable with heavy contact/grinding.

My first question to you is are you inquiring about one-on-one type of private dancing or more akin to doing shows for bucks, birthdays and what-not ??

I can only speak from my limited experience (as I have only just acquired a car hence will be exposed to more of this side of the stripping world in the coming months).

Personally, I would go with a few agencies for a year or two before even THINKING about setting up on my own. The reason I say this is because, even tho' the agencies can sometimes take 50% of the earnings for that night, all you have to do is be reliable, turn up and do the show.

Most dances I have come across who have ended up going independant and/or opening their own agencies have done so after 2 or more years working for various agencies. They have established themselves with alot of clients and by that time should have a nice 'databank' of contacts who they can 'take with them' unless the dancer has signed a contract with any agency (hence cannot do so without legal repurcussions).

Plus you do tend to really 'get to know' the industry by that time ....hence 'get to know' what does and does not seem to work.

Then again, I do shows not one-on-one private dancing. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing such things without someone present in the room or within ear-shot of me (if they're in 'the next room').

The reason why I'm asking about setting up on my own is partially because I'm really good at self-promo, and partially because that way I can find a bouncer I TRUST . . . I've heard horror stories about agency girls getting raped while their bouncer stands by and does nothing. :( I've heard from other dancers here who will do parties or small private shows equally as long as a trusted third party is IN the room, and I'm kinda with that idea.

I wouldn't mind working for an agency as long as I knew the agency was SAFE . . . which is why I'm asking here about the ones that operate in Portland.

A quick search turns up some national agencies:
http://www.portlandstrippers101.com/ (Strippers 101 network)
http://www.hbstrippers.com/ (Hunks and Babes)
http://www.centerfoldstrips.com
Local outfits don't seem to have websites, but a list I found online includes Masquerade Entertainment which seems to book doms, and a couple of other places which on more extensive searching are just peepshows.

The kind of thing I'm REALLY interested in doing is setting up for myself as a unique burlesque party dancer, doing creative shows that are equal parts titillating and just plain intriguing, nude poetry readings, etc. I think there is a good market for that here (Portland) compared to other cities -- at least judging by the customer base I'm meeting in the club, men who read me their poetry and tell me about Norse reconstructionist paganism and Ayn Rand and who catch my more obscure, strange, intellectual references. I think if I learned some pole tricks, got a portable stage, and put together some basic shows that noone else was offering, I could have FUN making bank!

And in all honesty, how often do you think people will be knocking your door trying to get a burlesque show? Sounds like a great idea yea...but I can't see you getting alot of work based on that. Yea, maybe if you went to an event and performed..but I can't see a man callin you up and requesting a show like that from you often. I dunno...good luck whatever you choose.

Also, I'm curious. Why do you think that you cannot have your own bouncer? Or do these agencies have a clause that says you must use their men??

If I'm supplying my own ride and my own safety precautions, I don't want to be taking teeny tiny pay just so someone else will get me the gig! I'm fairly sure I can get gigs myself. A lot of people are probably looking online or in the free papers (which are big around here, people use them as primary nightlife guides) for party dancers -- and I don't see anyone else advertising.

The eccentric shows are something I'd offer that (as far as I can tell) no one else does, and burlesque is REAL big around here, believe it or not. But I'd also offer the standard "takes off clothes, shakes booty, gives a private dance." They'd just all be listed as options.

Chaos Fairy, you're idea sounds great! Even if you have to have two websites or something (one for the poetry and bulesque and one for just regular partiers), it sounds like tons of fun. I've been thinking of moving to Portland, anyway.... if you get to busy for one girl, let me know!

Do not use Hunks and Babes!! They are a huge agency, who doesn't get enough business in any single area to make it worth your while. I had a bad experience with them taking my pic and posting it (without me working for them), and then refusing to call me back when I asked them to take it down. So, I don't think that agency is very trustworthy. Just FYI. Really, most agencies out there are very shady, and you have to be screwed over a few times before you figure it out. Unless......you talk to some dancers you know IN THE AREA. But, I like your idea of the Burlesque shows. I don't know how many men will be into it, though. Since you promote yourself well, I guess you'll be alright. Basically, agencies take half your pay because they pay for advertising, phone staff, office building, etc.....If you're willing to take on all those costs yourself (and have the capital to do so), GREAT! You'll be better off looking out for yourself. Most agencies let you take your own driver. I take my good guy friend, who is also my boyfriend's friend. He always keeps me safe. You just have to teach your driver how to hustle more moey out of the crowd too. You know, teach him little phrases to get the guys to throw down more money, etc.... If you don't have any friends you can take, I don't know what to tell you. I'd say, take another dancer's driver/friend but sometimes they have a whole little system of stealing your money. Anyways, good luck. Private dancing for parties is so much more fun than the club.

1. Most agencies don't provide a bouncer, or you have to pay for the bouncer out of your cut.
2. Bouncers aren't that hard to find... ask one at the club.
3. Guys expect more contact when you come to their house. In a lot of circles private dancer is code for escort. If you do your own promotion, this is something you can address before booking.
4. It's very probable that people aren't advertising because they don't want to be busted for prostitution, lewdness, etc.

I say do it yourself! I *love* the burlesque/nude poetry reading idea, and I agree that in Portland it could be a hit.

Centerfold Strips is good. I do some work for them once in a while. They take care of everything for you up front, and the customer has always had the money for me at the door. They also explain the "rules" and encourage the customer to tip well. So far they have all known that the length of time I stay is determined by how much money they are spending. They can refer bouncers if they know any in your area, but you're pretty much on your own.

Um, I'm not too sure about agencies, but you also have to know that now here in Oregon, they approved the live sex act thing. A lot of guys I know here, are all in to that, and after they've seen girls screw themselves, they don't want to see anything else. i would definately research plenty of agencies before you do it, earlier this year, when I was in Acropolis, a girl told me stories of a few agencies she worked for out here, that ended up being escort services, shich there are a lot of out here too.

Good luck!! And if you find a good one, could you let me know??
