hmm...
Are there any benefits to "tingle" or "hot" lotions? I'm a newbie tanner, and I was thinking about picking one up next time.
Also, I keep getting word that stand-up tanning booths, (the tanning booths, not mystictan) don't use UVB and thus, don't cause skin cancer. Is there any truth to this? It doesn't make much sense. But I love stand-up booths (But I'm a bit too tall for them. boo) and the tanning has sorta helped my seasonal affective disorder... haha although not as much as I would like
-J
Nope. There is no such thing as a no-risk-for-cancer tanning bed.
There is a high pressure bed (usu $20+/session) that filters out most of the UVB rays, the rays that burn. On the flip side, UVA rays do more damage to skin, increasing the risk for cancer.
The benefits of high pressure beds are that burning is not common if instructions are followed, skin tans much faster, the tan holds longer, and require less tanning sessions for maintainence.

Just a note on tingle lotions: Do not get anywhere near face.
I put some on my body before a session and I accidentally touched my face thinking it was all rubbed off. My face was on fire for the whole time.

That is very true. The skin on your face is a lot thinner than the skin on your body.It will damage the skin on your face if you use tingle lotions there.

Just thought I would take a minute and explain a few things about the difference between the UV rays.
First there is 3 types of UV rays UVC,UVA and UVB of the 3 the ozone blocks out the most harmful one UVC. The only places you will find UVC rays are in hospitals they use it to sterilize equipment.
Now a quick and short lesson on UVA,UVB UV is measured in nanometers that means nothing to most off us but its the way wave lengths are measured. The reason I am bringing this up is a lot of people will tell you a tanning bed is like a microwave oven. From it. Microwaves have strong and longer wave lengths in the 1000s length they are meant to heat from the inside out whereas a uva and uvb wave length is 230nm to 320 nm cant even thaw a hamburger.
Let's take a look at the 2 UV rays found in a tanning bed and also outside while tanning.
I like to refer to uvb rays as the burning ray they stimulate the melocytes and then the uva oxidizes them. when you plan on tanning keep this in mind
The higher the uvb in the lamp (bulb) the more chance of burning. Look for a lamp that has 5% uvb or less in it especially if your new to tanning. There are lamps out therewith 6.5 and 7.0 and 9.0% uvb they are 10 minute lamps and are for someone that has a base tan.
uvb are shorter wave lengths and affect the upper layer of your skin which in turn like I said stimulate the melanin.
uva is a longer wave and can penetrate deeper we in the tanning business refer to this a the bronzing ray.
To get the best possible tan you need a balance of uva and uvb the combination results in a darkening of the pigmentation.
Someone asked about a stand up or booth.standup's are great to get an even all around tan.
If possible start with a base bed 100watts top and bottom to get a base tan going after that try the standup. Most standups now are 160 watt who or ho lamps. some are even as high as 200watt lamps at 56 lamps do the math. You also mentioned about being small and not reaching a facial. look the next time your in the salon and see what type of standup it is.
Prosun puts out a standup with an elevator in it. You hit a button and it raises you up until your at the facial.
Now as for tingle lotions this is what a tingle does. Tingles increase the micro-circulation of the skin causing bloods vessels in the skin to open the reddening is from the blood flow the increased blood flow increases the oxygen level in the skin which helps in the aid of required nutrients.
If you are just starting out please don't use a tingle lotion use a good base lotion accelerator to get the tan started some good lines are designer skin caltan and fiesta sun.
Now if you need color quick then use a bronzer but remember this the higher the dha in the bronzer the more chance of orange look. Also make sure the bronzer you pick matches up with your skin tone. Taking a darker bronzer will leave you not looking natural
my pick is worship a great first time bronzer.
When you reach a level where you might want to take your tan to the next level look into a tingle start with a low level 1 or 3 caltan has some great low level tingles for first timers, after that try halfbaked its a bronzer and tingle together. The hottest I ever tried was Goddess or pryo and yes your butt is still warm 4 hours later.
hope I been some help if you need anything please feel free to ask
have a great day

My friend had streaks like how you said, if you look at the bed before you lie down, you'll notice there are a couple pieces of plastic that are vertical that hold up the plastic that you lie down on, I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but it seemed like that they were in the exact location of where my friend got the streaks. I also think it has to do with certain bulbs wearing out fast than others.

The pieces of plastic or metal that you are talking about are supports for the acrylics the average acrylic can hold a weight of 300lbs and without them the acrylic may give way.
some things to keep in mind if your laying in a bed with the lamps spaced to far apart you will get stripping. Also when your laying on your back every 2 or 3 minutes lift your shoulder blades up and your butt and slide it a inch or two to the side. You have pressure points on your back and butt area and this will cause that area to stay white and not tan.
also another note on the Tingle lotions when you look at the back of a bottle look at the ingredients the higher on the list you see methyl paraben or benzyl nicotinate the stronger the tingle will be.
hope this helps
John
I use Goddess and Siren. Then again I think I've gone just about as far as I can go with those lotions.
Both have extreme tingle and one has a bronzer that in it and the other does not.
What about the lotions that have caffeine and stuff like that in them, do they work well?

Crow Goddess and siren are excellent lotions Designer skin makes them.I teach my tanners that your body will get used to a tingle and crave hotter ones.If your body can take Goddess and you see no results switch back to a base lotion or bronzer.
you asked about lotions with caffine yes they work very nice may I suggest Supre cafe bronzer....your going to smell like a cup of coffee. but the results are nice
caffine in lotions moisturizes the skin reduce cellulite and produce a overall firming affect.
hope this helps
john
Thank you John! I'll know whom to pm if I have any more questions:D
