My take on black guys is that they're black.

I lost my virginity to a Jamaican man. The "once you go back..." saying did not ring true in my case. In the long interim since then, I've had a terrible crush on a musician who moonlighted as a waiter at a restaurant I frequently patronized, who happened to be black. Nothing came of it, unfortunately.

I think, because my first boyfriend (the Jamaican) had such a hang-up on my whiteness, like I was some big prize or something, and I had already experienced this with Japanese men I dated when I was living in Japan, I was put off dating non-Caucasian men for a long time. But it really doesn't matter to me now. It would matter to my family, because they are racist and bigoted, but I wouldn't care.

Yea I have seen guys who are just hung up on one particular race. I can understand how you feel also on so many level from experience. Oh I am not white. Dating someone because of thier race is not right! But I damn guilty of doing it to those Irish men.

i don't expect anyone, or you, to understand if you/they don't live here. did you read my milk story? 90% of black men in my area are like that and they are even worse in the SC.

Your milk story was a bad experience, I am so sorry this happen to you!
Well I think again you may see a certain class of black men. I strongly believe thier are differant class of people in every race.

You should here the statements I get from white men. The racist ones who throw back hand compliments.

i dont find black men attractive AT ALL, both physically and mentally, thats just my preference.

and i sympathise with corgan...im sorry to read your milk story...some men are just low-class a-holes, but from my experience, the majority of the a-holes just happen to be black.

Sorry that you had such a bad experience with men who were ass holes. So sorry that the majority was black. If this is one of the reason you do not like them, I can understand why!

As long as you know ass holes comes in differant races. Where history stands most of them is not black. Yes you do find a certain class of black people. Suffering in this repression state. This is why you may see on the news. The term " black enought" among newspaper.

My point I want everyone to understand is....

Every race has it Ass holes, it is not fair to judge one on thier race. But to judge them as a person. How they come across to you, and respect you as a person. I know certain cultures have thier stero types. I feel a lot of black people are in a repression state. How they are going to over come them, I do not know! I dont have the answer to everything, I did'nt go to the future class in college.;D ( it's a joke people). But If you like a person and they treat and respect you the way that is right. I say date them, if you like them what race have to do with it!

Anywho change of subject
Now I think obama is cute. He is nothing like the guys in corgan milk story.

This thread is getting out of hand in that underhanded racist type of way. But as usual, the WOC on SW (myself included) probably won't say much of anything about it because nobody wants to be labeled as hypersensitive or dramatic.

But this is very disappointing. :(

It's okay, just post some pics in the picture post. I pretty sure this will make up for the mistake ;D

no offense to the OP but, what a weird thread...... I personally don't find black men attractive, more into the Antonio Sabato look but, this thread just seems as if the OP is looking for a reason to date black people and gain acceptance. At this stage in modern history, I could care less who you date but, if you're dating a guy cause his color either way, I find it lame..

rant done.

You made me take a bold look at my own classism, Francesca. Thanks.

Oh, thanks AG. I actually like to talk about race/class/gender issues, so I hope we can try to keep the dialogue open, even if it gets a little uncomfortable. ;)

I'm probably the only white girl in Oakland that has never dated a black guy. LOL. Always was curious, but just never got around to it. :P

I have to be honest... I'm kinda shocked that anybody SERIOUSLY ask this question.....like, who REALLY thinks that all of any group of people is "bad" in this day and age? I've always lived in the city, so maybe I don't know what goes on in smaller communities but.... ????????

They're important issues.

Ideally, we would judge on the individual. I probably would be considered classist. If a man opens his mouth and he shows himself to be uneducated, I'm immensely turned off. Same if he's dressed in shitty jeans and a Tasmanian Devil shirt. I value intelligence, culture, and aesthetics far too much!

Now, I have been wrong. My LAST romantic interest could not write particularly well. Was brilliant, but very bad with written communication. I guess it becomes a question of, "How do we look at individuals in a way that is both safe and keeps us from missing opportunities?" Well, at least I wanna know! ;)

AG, I think you and I are in the same boat. I have some class issues as well, and I have even been accused of being racist against my own people. I am VERY hard on black and Latino men, not because I don't like them, but because a lot of them can do so much better. They walk up to me and act a certain way, and I ask them how their mother/grandmother would feel if they saw them talking like that, and MOST of the time they straighten the hell up. That tells me something about the expectation that we have of black/Puerto Rican men. A lot of them act the way they do because they already KNOW society thinks they are the dregs of society.

Okay, I'm talking too much. Sorry. :-[

I'm most guilty of classism too. Race is unimportant to me. I can relate to everything Fracesca says. But I know a lot of black/latino men who are already straight and were raised very similar to myself. They can't comprehend the whole "dregs of society" thing either.

Within every race, there are different classes of people. Not all black people are the same. Not all white people are the same. Seems obvioius, right?

I don't think you're talking too much! I think it's an interesting point. Marginalized people have to be better than good, but a number are too frightened to even try. I think as women, we get frustrated at men of color because we go through the motions to some degree, too. Or at least I feel that way!

It's unfortunate I judge by class, but yes, I understand that completely. I suppose rather than judging by class, we could commit ourselves to looking at how hard the individual is trying to improve.

Well yeah, I pay attention to that too. That's actually most important.

I don't like what I posted last night. It's somewhat true but it all depends on what's going on. If I'm on the subway and some dude steps to me -- I'm immediately a classist. But normally, I don't really care. I look at people as individuals.

I guess I'm classist when men are disrespectful or step into my personal space or try to talk to me when I don't want their company.

ALL people are black. It's been scientifially proven that all people descend from Eve, who was African and except for a VERY small part (in the hundred of thousandths of a percent), our DNA is all the same. So when people say "blacks are this" and "blacks are that", they are being ignorant since the same DNA flows through us all. It is through evolution and the separation of the continents to where they are now that some people have more melanin (the chemical that causes color)in their skin making them darker than others.

If you visit a jail, you will not find only black men. If you go to the welfare office, there will not only be black people. If you speak to people, not only black people will speak improper english.

I've never had sex with a "black" guy, but all the "white" men I have had large penises...black men don't corner the market on that.

Whoa there! "Proven we're all descended from one woman?" But I have proof we were all created by the Flying Spaghetti Monster! (http://www.venganza.org/)

Now He'll send you to hell forever for insulting Him, or at least until you're al dente! }:D

Sorry, the idea that we are all descended from ONE woman, just like my belief in the Flying Spaghetti monster, is just a belief.

We likely (I suspect anyway) developed from a group of hominid critters that evolved over time. Of course, Pangaea broke up and certain genes got isolated. There's more than melanin to this small subsect of genes that controls physical appearance - bone structure, hair texture, muscle and tissue deposits...

Like you touched on though, cultural implications are the biggie here.
