Yeah, that's a good one, glad you're enjoying it! It "belongs" to another girl at my club so I don't really get to dance to it.

The new Joe album is official. Neyo's has a flew blazers...but maybe the rest just has to grow on me.
Oh, and usually I'm not too big on the mainstream hip hop scene, but that DJ Khaled joint with Akon, TI, Wayne, annems is serious.

I've got mixed feelings about that lip gloss song. I find it midly annoying but my dancers somewhat like it; one of my dancers explained to me that this is song is not intended for old people like myself (I'm turning 30) but for 10-12 year olds. I used to get really offended over rap songs like this and Pop Lock and Drop It, etc., but as long as they stay in there lane and don't start saying they're "real" hip hop, I'm cool with it.

Is there still a such thing as regional hip-hop? Rap music from the south seems to be so dominate its hard to distinguish where artist are based from nowadays.
Anyway, most of the songs recently mentioned are unfamiliar round 'ere. Does New York have any good artist anymore?

Yeah, the rap game is pretty much classified by region nowadays. Although, there's a lot more 'real talent' down south than what you see on tv or hear on the radio. I'd suggest you look into a group out of NC called Little Brother. Very gritty yet intelligent duo with constant quality. A quick internet search will yield you tons on them...or a myspace query. As for New York, well there's still quite a huge underground hip hop scene here...especially around Bedstuy. I did production for my man Iconoclast out of Mt. Vernon, but doubt you've heard of him. As for mainstream artists repping NY right now, well...Nas still is putting out, in my mind, consistent quality...and I still dig Mobb Deep despite their joining g-unit records. As long as Alchemist is behind the tables, I don't tink they could do any wrong. And MF Doom is still one of the sickest emcees to come out of NY, period.
Not to preach brash generilizations, but majority of what you hear in the south encompasses less-than-stellar rhyme skills w/catchy hooks/dance moves teamed with production that usually gets huge club play, while East Coast rap tends to be more conscious lyricism geared towards rough edged reality....

Didn't even see her cd on Amazon, and I guess that's been out since what, late '06? Surprised she hasn't caught on outside Chicago, cuz she's got the looks too.

Hmmm.. good to see some cd's that are listenable all the way thru.. usually there's one or two good tracks.. three if you're lucky.. some dumb "skits", and then total crap..
Thankfully there's been excellent ones worth buying from Timbaland, Akon, T.I., 8ball & MJG, Amy Winehouse, and Snoop Dogg..
Hit a couple more this past week to add to that list..
Fabolous - From Nothin to Somethin
Assuming the tracks don't change, since I heard the release got bumped back a bit.. the highlights are:
"Make Me Better" feat Ne-Yo (the lead single I think..)
"First Time" feat Rihanna (very hot, everyone was flipping over the 1:30 sample that got "leaked"
"Baby Don't Go" feat T-Pain (hot track)
"Real Playa Like" feat Lloyd (smoooooth.. might be my fave on the disc)
"Brooklyn" feat Jay-Z & Uncle Murda (brooooook-lyn... broooook-lyn)
Really about the only song that got on my nerves was that "Diamonds" with Young Jeezy..
and:
R.Kelly - Double Up
"I'm a Flirt" feat T.I. and T-Pain (been around a while, still bangs)
"Rock Star" feat Ludacris and Kid Rock (cool song)
"Double Up" feat Snoop Dogg
"Get Dirty" feat Chamillionaire (Hands UP.. now let'em bounce)
"Freaky in the Club" (Laid back)

I feel stupid for having to ask, but hey...3 girls have asked me for a song this week. No one knew the artist, but it's apparently "hip hop, but you know, playable and fast and kinda poppy!" I get all the promos, but I am told this song samples the old 80's Cutting Crew "(I Just) Died In Your Arms". 2 girls just came back from Miami and said they heard it there. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

There's a guy here in Lafayette calls himself Cupid. He's in college here and came out with the song Cupid Shuffle. It's got a whole lil line dance to it but the song is sweet.
They just shot the video here at the mall. Here's a link if ya wanna check it out.

Wow.. the only Wild Thing I can think of sung by a female was from an old 80's movie with Melanie Griffith called Something Wild... and it had a reggae bounce to it (some).. called "Wild Thing".. by uhh.. let me check my dvd archives.. her name was Sister Carol..
buuuuuuuuuuuut I don't know if it had any relation to Tone Loc's tune.. might be closer to the old Trogg's Wild Thing if anything at all.
Ha.. nice.. that soundtrack has an old fave of mine.. Fine Young Cannibals "Ever Fallen in Love with Someone".. haven't heard that for years.
