Have you tried contacting the breeders? Tell them that an emergency has come up and you are going to have to give up the dog? If they can sell him to someone else, then they may give you your money back. If they refuse to give your money back, then let him get shipped to you and then put up and ad that he's looking for a home (preferably WAY up north).

You want the dog, then get the dog! It's no more cruel to have a husky in florida then it is to have an old person in florida.
If ya cage train the dog and keep him in a/c during the hottest part of the day he'll be fine. Don't let all the naysayers change your mind about something YOU want.
There are plenty of huskies living in the dessert of Arizona and they do just fine, Florida is no damn different(cept it's cooler)

Oh god you might as well get him. Any breeder who would SHIP a dog to someone they've never even met is running a puppy mill. So this dog needs a good home. Give him as much love as you can and don't even buy a dog from a puppy mill again. That's what keeps them in business!

First of all, a "reputable" breeder would NEVER have never sold you this dog seeing as how you live in FL and can not possibly give it the life it is entitled to, considering it's breed. However, since you are already financially entangled, you need to contact the local Husky rescue in your area and let them know that there will soon be an avaialable puppy and hope to the heavens that they send it north to where it is better suited. That the breeder didn't specify that you live in a colder climate in the beginning makes me think that they are a shady breeder. In this instance I would also speculate that my puppy may have genetic abnomalities as well, which is what happened when I got my Great Dane.
Whatever you plan to do with your dog, please go with the rescue group for your breed, don't just take it to the pound should you choose to give it up. If you need guidance for your breed, please contact me or google the breed name. I'm always here to help.

omfg... Any special request dog May be from a puppy mill. You just never know. Even if you talk to the breeder directly (which is what i did). Um, i don't support that crap.
He is coming from the midwest... (the puppy)
Obviously you don't know me. I would never take ANY friggin animal to the pound.

Reputable breeders ship puppies all the time. Check the AKC site, there are tons of recommended breeders that do so. Of course, always check their references. But just because a puppy is shipped, does not mean it came from a puppy mill. My Brother-In-Law and his ex-wife got a minpin a few years back. She came from Nebraska. Now, reputable breeders will have a contract stating that you will get the puppy spayed/neutered when it is of age, and you will also sometimes have to agree in the contract that if it doesn't work out, you will contact the breeder. Either the breeder will arrange to take the puppy back (shipping at your expense), or they will find someone in your area who is willing to take the puppy. That is what the contract was between my Brother-In-Law and the breeder, anyway. A lot of breeders have websites and do ship. It's impossible to meet the buyers, but they all do have that contract in hand before the puppy is shipped.
I've also known SHELTERS who ship animals.
TFD.. I'm not going to judge whether Florida is too hot for a Husky or not. I grew up with 2 Siberian Huskies (Thunder & Lightning), but that was in Connecticut. When I lived in Arizona though, I saw countless Chows, Huskies, Malamutes, and many other heavy coated dogs. My Ex's uncle had, and still has a Malamute, and he lived in Lake Havasu. He now lives in California. Arizona is scorching hot, moreso than Florida. But it doesn't stop people from welcoming them into their families and taking the very best care of them.
I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do. You obviously have a whole lot of love to give, and I wish you and the puppy the best.

TFD: If you want the dog, are a serious animal lover, have the time and money to give the husky what it needs in FL....then do it. I have 2 small dogs (Chihuahua and Westie).....when I bought them I was in Las Vegas, well I ended up moving to NYC.....Not a chihuahuas favorite city....What was I going to do...give them away just because I moved to a different climate? HELL NO! When it rains, they have raincoats, when it snows, they have their winter coats and boots......when it's hot and humid we have plenty of AC. Point being I will do WHATEVER it takes to make sure my furbabies are comfortable and happy. If you love this husky then you will do whatever it takes to make sure it has a comfortable and happy life.

Maybe I'm just thinking of some site where you punch in what you want and they just ship you a dog like ordering a pizza or something when I think of puppy mills. It's been 11 years since I bought a dog so maybe true breeders do internet screening and can ship you a dog. I just had an image in my head of ordering a dog online from some puppy mill. So you might be safe TFD I guess from not buying from a puppy mill. I know that the pets shops only get from mills but maybe some breeders sell online that aren't puppy mills. And I agree with FormerLVDancer, if you love your husky you'll make it happy and healthy!

I would get a gentler breed. Lab maybe.
Also, let me know if you need the name of a GREAT trainer. I know one in So Tampa. He helped me so much that I can now help other people train their dogs.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but there is a much smaller breed of Alaskan Husky called the "Alaskan Klee-Kai" They look just like the larger Huskies, only they're markedly smaller. They're supposed to be pretty good dogs. I've also heard that it's harder to get insurance with Huskies since they're larger and don't have the best disposition.

Yep, my concern wasn't so much with the climate...it was more with the TYPE of dog. Huskies, as nice as they are...are a lot to handle. They probably take 2-3 times the amount of "training" that normal dogs take.
If you are still going to get the dog, make sure that you read more up on them. Do what needs to be done BEFORE you get the dog. A fenced in yard should be a fence that the dog cannot jump over (and don't put anything around the perimeter of the fence, they'll use it, LOL). Get a kiddie pool, a good strong leash...have it all before hand. Go to the library and rent some books on Huskies and their training.
And, remember, that Huskies are an "Alpha" mentality dog. As long as you keep yourself in the Alpha position, you should do ok.
Good luck!!!
