Most of the comments in that guestbook are disturbing to say the least. Esspecially those ones claiming to be writing a paper saying what a wonderful source of information OAG is. You can tell by the e-mail address that they are coming from a school. Are our schools becoming so bad that kids think that any source of information they can find is objective?
And what's with her asking people their shoe size?
I've got a great idea. Why not invite this gal to join SW? I'm sure she'd be thrilled to know her website has been a hotly discussed topic here. I'd like to see how her fascist view of an industry she can't possibly understand fares in an environment where it will be someone else with their finger on the edit button for a change.
I mean, if she's that confident about the integrity of what she has posted on her website, what does she have to lose by coming here and defending it?

Good point, doc! Half the comments aren't a debate on the effects of porn. They're about abuse in general. Millions have watched porn and somehow restrained themselves from raping. Oh, and what's her arguement for women who molest and rape?

I for one wouldn't stop them, wouldn't censor them, but wouldn't enjoy having people who hate stripping, strippers, strip joint customers, strip joint management, and laws which allow stripping, as company here. But more power to them if they've got the energy to bring it to a place where they're not preaching to the converted.

Jenny,
When I tried to post my third comment in her guestbook, she sent me a snippy response by email.
I'm afraid the comment may be permanently lost. The gist of it was simply that claiming to "know all about" my industry was committing that anti-feminist fallacy -- much like saying housework is no work at all, to keep down the people who do it.
I also inquired, quite seriously (and made clear that this was not a rhetorical question) whether she considered Andrea Dworkin's career to be a simple reaction to abuse (for Dworkin was, indeed, sexually abused as a child.)
I asked, specifically, if she would be kind enough to tell me the thought process explaining how she considers some women who have been abused to be incapable of acting under their own will, and others not. I asked this politely.
I think she fired off the snippy email because she doesn't HAVE a thought process.
And I had such great hopes too!

it"s women with attitudes like this that make me sure I'll get into stripping as soon as I can afford a few costumes! Ha HA! I love this site! Hopefully in another 10 years stripping will be seen as a "normal" job to those in mainstream corporate america... love the viking hat! it's nice to read the opinions of witty women who "just happen" to strip, too!
I wonder what effect that would have on pay scales? Will increased "acceptability" mean more supply = lower pay? Or will increased acceptability mean increased demand as well (I doubt it), with the two cancelling out? Or, most likely, it probably won't change anything at all (nor will increased acceptability happen).
I guess we could study this by comparing pay scales vs acceptability in different locations. Has anyone "worked the circuit" long enough to have a clue?
I guess this is a fork in the thread that should go to Dollar Den if anyone has any answers.
Money aside, working in some of the ultra-restrictive places out there where busts come out of nowhere must be a real PAIN.
