Har har har. We heard no booty shorts or bikinis, but does that mean no two-piece skirt outfits or short dresses as well? Because, you know, nobody told us and all we packed were these teensy weensy outfits so can we pleeeease wear them? hee hee.

f**k. Please tell me that it's not an all gown club. Pretty please.
Emily
06-06-2006, 01:23 PM
it's looking that way
they are allowing short dresses and skirts, but it seems to be migrating towards gowns only (3/4 length okay)
I hope you guys all do well.
The treatment that CK got burns me up. I am so tired of white racist club owners. One of these days in my lifetime, I hope the tables get turned in this country and whites start getting turned down for jobs. Enough of my rant.
I am quite surprised though that they would need to book girls to work in a club in a major metro area. There shoulod be a huge dancer pool there already.

affirmative action?
I am not making that remark to diss anyone here. I am being harsh because the average white person is not racist, and I know most of you guys are not, but virtually all white people do not understand the extent that racism affects the lives of those of us who are not white.
If any of you saw the Oprah show where she had one white couple made up to look black, and one black couple made up to look white, how people's treatment and perception of both couples changed. The black couple was treated better, and the white couple couldn't believe how negatively they were treated when going out. The white couple said they would never look at the black situation in America the same again.
Masses of white people who are treated the same and allowed to live in comparable conditions as blacks for let's say 30-60 days, would probably have their eyes opened to the fact that this country is not as equal opportunity as they have always thought. Right now, most white people think that blacks and whites have equal opportunities, but even if they have equal educations, blacks are still not on even keel with whites. Blacks are hired on a quota system, and whites are hired in unlimited numbers.
Once masses of mainstream white people experience first hand what it is like to be discriminated against regularly, most will change their discriminatory behavior, and our society can be a better place. As long as masses of white people don't face the daily discrimination that we face as blacks, they won't see it as a priority to treat everyone the same, because they don't realize how much a problem prejudice still is in our society.
I am one of the most liberal people around, and have friends of all races, but when CK goes to work the Super Bowl with a white girl and gets turned down, while the white dancer is hired, and when all of you guys who are white get booked on night shift, and "her type" is deemed to only be needed on day shift, where the money potential is not as great, that is a horrible thing. Yet she is a top selling dancer where she normally works.
How would you guys feel if what we deal with as women of color CONSTANTLY happened to you?
Just think about it, and think about it hard, but no further posts on the matter are necessary.
Affirmative action is not the answer because we still are looked at for the color of our skin and whites are not.

there are black girls on the night shift at the club?
I think ck is gorgeous... i don't know what the problem was with the manager but it is their loss!!!

Whoah, whoah, whoah, what does her treatment in Detroit have to do with this club in Philly? I am lost. And at least 50% of the dancers at this club are black.
I think they're having a hard time getting dancers because some of the other clubs in town warned theirs they'd be blacklisted if they left to work there . . .

What treatment of CK??? She hasn't mentioned anywhere in this thread about even having TRIED to work here in Philly...
Anyway, with the way business was the last two nights, CK (or anyone else for that matter) is better off staying home :thumbsdow

yes....sorry to say....major suckage lately.
It started after Memorial Day and just kind of did it summer thing.
And there are lots of black girls there. They are definitely not discriminating against black girls. The agency, maybe....but not the club.

Well I'm out. Changed my flight and I'm at the airport now. Got a nasty sinus infection, found docs in my insurance network in the neighborhood, but none of them even answer the damn phone. Apparently you need some sort of secret code or some shit to see a doctor in this town and ::) I can't stay for 2 more weeks like this. Not to mention the fact the club's apt is a small 2BR and they've stuck 5 girls in there - Susan and I were having to sleep in the livingroom, with the kitchen table between us. The apt is actually alright, just too crowded. I am positive business will get better in the next few days, but I need a doctor to prescribe me some antibiotics. Sometimes I hate this country; can't get the meds you need without a doctor's note and it's hard to even see a friggin doctor, even WITH insurance. UGH.
Club management is nice, and I wish I weren't sick so I could tough it out for the next couple days.....
To any girls planning to travel here to work: Travel with a partner and split hotel cost. Talk to manager John and have him hook you up with a rate at the Comfort Inn. It will be a decent place to stay and the special rate is @$100/night, not bad for 2 people. Better than being stuck in a small 2BR 2BA apt with no tv and 5-6 girls. The money could still be worth the trip next week...

Keep in mind that if you call this club during normal business hours, you speak to the day shift manager, and he really wants girls on his shift. The club tries to make EVERYONE work the day shift for the simple reason that they need more girls on it. I was "allowed" to work the night shift because I told them I had a day job... they tried the same line of intimidation with me and "my type" too... my type being petite, white, and brunette. I didn't think they were discriminating against my hair color... I thought that they were in desperate need of day shift girls. To turn this into a racial issue is missing the point. This club is new, huge, and struggling to hire a base of dancers to work all shifts without the steady customer base a more established club in the area can promise. Yeah, they try every trick in the book to get girls on the day shift.
Bridgette, can't you go to a Urgent Care Clinic where they take walk in patients? Most major cities have them and you don't need an appointment.
Everything is a racial issue when you are black. That is one thing white people don't understand. How many white girls from SW were steered to day shift? And until ALL white people understand that, we will never have EQUAL and COLOR BLIND race relations in this country. Ck went through the booking agent as I guess most of you did. I am merely responding to the post she made about trying to get booked, and also mentioning that she went through the same thing during the Super Bowl.
So please don't hate on us people of color and act preturbed when we become angry at always being put on a quota system by whites, and seen as a black person before we are seen as people. Every noted black studies author writes about the fact that whites feel that we all have equal opportunity, when in fact it is nowhere near the truth.
No as far as the business being slow, I have learned that traveling to work in a big club with an unlimited amount of dancers is not worth it. The business is about the same EVERYWHERE, and in many big cities, the huge amount of dancers working makes it tough to make steady money. I have gone this route before and never has it been worth it. I have NEVER made better money than at home and in many cases it has been worse.I would bet factoring out travel expenses, the money at your home clubs would have been about the same.
I have found that working bookings at small town clubs with base pay and no more than 4-7 girls a night is the only way to GUARANTEE joblike steady income.

I think Tina is referring to the Superbowl thread...Ohhh I dont even wanna rethink that horror. Anywho, I tried to work at the Philly club about 2 months ago through Janet. The club wanted me there, but they said they had to many girls who look like me, so they would only hire me for dayshift. I declined... :-\
It's all good though...no hard feelings at all. I hope this weekend is better than the past few days for you though Bridgette ;)

From CK's post, I'd thought she'd put in a cold call to the club asking about their hiring policies. If that's what happened, she got the same treatment I did upon doing the same thing. While this does not necessarily mean that the management isn't racist, it does indicate that there are more factors at work in the hiring process than skin color, such as the club needing day shift girls.
If this is your idea of being hated on...

Well I am now back in AZ. They have urgent care clinics in PA I'm sure, just none in my insurance network within the Philly city limits. And I'm not paying $100+ for some doc to tell me what I already know and write a prescription. I was kinda having a bad feeling about the trip in the last 24 hours or so before I left, and I guess I should've cancelled and kept my southwest flight funds....
When I was trying to call doctors this morning, one person did pick up the phone, and immediately put it down on the desk. I could hear the person working and knocking the phone around. When I tried to call back the line was busy. Clearly s/he just took the phone off the hook to avoid having to do his/her fucking job and ANSWER it :O
I flew home this afternoon, went straight from airport to the doc I used before, got in and got meds (free samples even) promptly. If I'd stayed, I would've been forced to work sick to avoid paying the $50 condo fee, AND live in an overcrowded situation with zero privacy - privacy issue is HUGE with me. I'm much better off to be home where I can take my meds, recouperate in comfort and where my bf can love on me :) I can work here next week if I want.
Regarding the CK issue, I reeeeaaallly hate to say this, but I think it needs to be said. I'm thinking that the issue may be SIZE rather than skin color. Let me qualify this by saying that I've seen her pics and think she's a damn GORGEOUS woman, but I know there are many places that wouldn't want to hire (or put on night shift) a woman with that figure, nice and easy to sell as it is. Please understand I'm not AT ALL saying CK is fat or trying to sugar-coat anything. I think most yall who've been around a while know I'm not so good at sugar-coating anyway :P But we all know that agents/clubs/managers can be picky in stupid ways, and size/weight is the most common. Especially considering that the camera ALWAYS makes people look bigger than reality, and Janet/CH2 only had pics to go on, I'm sure that was their problem. Not her skin color.
I would also venture a bet that this was the same issue in Detroit for Superbowl - any club in a city that's hosting Superbowl will be totally swamped with girls begging to work, so they can be as picky as they want. Once again I have seen how gorgeous CK is in her pics...
And just to reiterate the point about CH2 management specifically NOT being racist in their hiring practices, half the girls working NIGHTS were black. No one can rightfully say those guys turn away girls solely based on skin color. Although considering the racial ratio of girls on nights I saw, it is also possible they simply felt they NEEDED more black girls on days...

And to CK, I hope you don't take offense to my comments. I most certainly don't mean to say you are too big or should lose weight. From the pics I've seen you're fucking beautiful and that's that. But this fact is beside my point.
Bridgette
06-09-2006, 02:16 AM
OK, sorry to post so much here. I just had to add this comment about the club management. I had to pay a $25 deposit for my key/swipe card to the club's condo. They had me sign an agreement for staying in the apt and actually gave me a copy of my signed contract. They also stuck my cash deposit in a safe, in an envelope with my apt contract. Since I left in such a hurry, I wasn't able to turn in my key and collect my deposit, so I just left the key with Susan so she could give it to them at work tonight. They actually gave her my deposit to return to me. I gotta say, from my experience, this is highly unusual. Most clubs would have just kept my money. Very nice indeed to see some honest SC management.
I also was pleasantly surprised that when I called John the manager from the airport this afternoon to say I was leaving due to illness, he offered to help me find a doc and asked if I were sure I didn't want to stay and let him help me, and work of course. Even went so far as to invite me back at a later date since I didn't want to stay at this time. That was some cool understanding, helpfulness, and hospitality I have only seen one other time in my eleven years of dancing. Kudos to him! If I were to consider travelling to dance again, I most definitely would want to work at his club. Under better circumstances I am sure it would be a pleasure.

I was going to go through Janet too. Only problem was they wanted "my type" on dayshift, so I declined. Please do tell how everything goes. Have fun!!
For the most part, the management is professional. However, they use pretty shameful tactics to get dancers to work day shift and keep them there. They imply that you're not good enough for night shift without giving any basis for their criterion. I know exactly why I'm working day shift - because I'll show up, and I'm often the only one. Of course, I'm allowed to work doubles whenever I want.../:O

bring gowns....you don't know what you're going to find. Tonight they changed the dress code mid-shift from skirts/dresses to gown only.

Weird that they are making it a gown club now, not when they opened, since it was just a while ago.
Is the club staying busy now, or has the buzz died down?
Emily
07-09-2006, 01:47 AM
well, the buzz has died down, Philadelphia is one of those cities that is affected by the time of year and this is our off-season. But, despite the fall of customers, I'm still consistently making good money there. The management hasn't changed any policies regarding tipouts and housefees, which are good, imo.

How much do you charge for the hour, and how much does the club take?
Can you usually sell vips every night?
Emily
07-09-2006, 02:13 AM
yeah, I can usually sell VIPs every night which is why I do okay here. The club charges $20 for the drinks in the VIP, and the girl gets $200 for 30 minutes, and it all goes to her (unless he uses a credit card, then they add 10% for him and charge the girl 10% when she cashes in, but fortunately there is an ATM at this club.) She is expected to tip out 15% at the end of the night.
Basically, that's the best thing this club has going for it. Relatively inexpensive VIPs and the club takes very little.

Just wanted to post on my experience here. I worked 20 out of 21 days I was at this club and averaged a decent amount of income (for the off-season). It was not as much as I was expecting after reading the best dancers website, but I am satisfied with my experience and was treated very well by staff. The housing was WAY better than I had expected, but could be cramped at full capacity. If you are a laidback personality, I would not recommend coming here during the off-season. You have to be persuasive and know how to sell to make $$ right now. I noticed on weekdays a lot of girls would latch onto customers and *hope* they would spend $$. It made it a lot more difficult when everyone was sitting around for free and I was trying to get $100 for 3 songs. I witnessed a couple girls fly into town and leave disappointed after seeing how slow it was. There's more income potential here than many other places during the summer, but you have to work a lot of days to make it worth while and use a hard sell to get it. I'm planning to return in September when things kick up again. Hope this helps. I'll be posting in the review section later.

Do you think it's better to try to go through Janet, or just do it on one's own? Or is there any difference? I don't like contracts...if I'm driving down, I'd like the option of driving back home whenever. But the prospect of cheap lodging is appealing. Is that condo deal available for non-agency traveling dancers?

from how things went/are going for me, going through her made things super easy! the app was a 10 minute thing, and then I called the next day, and she said she'd email me more info and speak to John. 1 1/2 hours later, everything was settled, and I didn't get any bs or run around.

I tried this club out yesterday. It was a lot bigger than I expected. I had really good luck with customers, only stayed a few hours but made ok money.
Housemom told me to buy a gown... didn't like any of her stuff. Lots of girls were wearing pants sets and shorts etc...
I left before it got busy.
It's 10 pm and I'm thinking of going in tonight, but I don't know if it's too late to show up now. I was on schedule for tonight but I got kinda lost on my way home from the mall.
