Besides the legal thing, I think it's hella cool, BUT , I would never have the balls to do it. I'm the type that I probably couldn't handle hearing something bad about me. I would never get over it and probably go off on that person.

LMAO
While it sounds awesome, sometimes it is better to not know what fuckers say about you.
But it would be hilarious going up to them with a convo you'd have no way of EVER hearing. Like the guy in the car. 'So, I'm a ho?'

My honest opinion? I think you're a fucking scumbag.
What you're doing is immoral and dishonest, and I hope you get busted for it,

Ditto. It's wrong. Would you want that done to you? Answer that and you have your answer.

i had a mate who had survelliance in his house- never told anyone, and finally found the shitface 'friend' who was stealing his cash.

sometimes it can be used to good.

but god, i dunno aye...id be tempted to leave the phone aroudn the place, but i know i can trust my friends enough to know they wouldnt be talking too much smack behind my back.

get new friends if you think you cant trust them

In YOUR house is different than spying on a confidential legal consultation, etc. Much different.

says a lot more about the person setting the bug than the person being bugged.

i couldn't be bothered...

mr naut's laptop and phone are sitting right there most of the time and i can't spare the interest to go sniffing through it... too much else to do. besides, he has made some cool bugs in his electronic past... so i'd be the last to start a snooping match with that guy.

karma is a bitch, 242.

wow. how'd i miss this thread the first time around?!?!
the idea is cool, but yea, i think it says a lot more about the person setting the bug, too.
i have a spycam, but it was from when my ex kept breaking in and the police would not do anything, so i got the cam. but since then, i have only wanted to use it to spy on the dogs when im not there. no one else.

i agree with naut 100%. karma.

An acquintance of mine sells something similar as a home security device for people who don't want to use Brinks, etc. I never thought of it as a spyphone, but I guess it works. But I wouldn't want to know and I would drop any friend who did something like that to me in the privacy of my own home or vehicle.

I hope you tossed it. Yah I admit I'd be tempted, but it wouldn't be worth the trouble. That shit can bite you in the ass.

Edit: And not a good bite either.

You guys have NO IDEA what you can do with some phones....

well maybe you do.

Doorbell triggers a mms txt to your phone showing you who's there so you can reply with a keycode triggering it to open through a secure channel.

Just ONE.

don't get me started on how you can have you home automation security system send you streaming video on your EVDO phone of your security cams at up to 10-13 fps.

...

karma is a bitch, 242.

That's what it comes down to for me. There's a reason 242 doesn't confront the people spied upon; immediate loss of the "high" ground.

"While I was invading your privacy by spying, you called me a name." Eh. Everyone would agree a spy cam planted in a friend's house is BS; how is this different? [And please, spare me the nanny cam stuff. 242 made it clear that not how she's using it.]

This happened a while ago. I think 242 probably understood what people thought about it the first time around. The discussion of privacy rights, human nature, etc. is interesting, but I feel bad that some people are picking on her about it now.

I am really disappointed that some many SWers think that what the OP did is cool. It's not cool at all. What you did was a total breach of privacy and trust. You obviously have some paranoia issues to think that you have to do this to "friends".

How dare you listen in to a client's private (and privilged) conversation with their lawyer. That is a fucking disgrace and I hope you do get caught.

There is nothing worse than sly, sneaky people.

Would you like it if someone recorded you having sex and broadcast it on the internet? Yeah it might be a little different but it's an invasion of privacy.

Disgraceful, I feel really pissed off and wish I didn't read this thread.

Gosh, if I had a phone that did that I would be really torn between wanting to spy on everyone I know and taking the position of ignorance is bliss.

Let's crucify 242, Round II...

I don't feel crucified DJ, everyone is entitled to their opinion!! That was why I posed this in the first place.

Anyway, yes I still have the spy phone. I havn't used it much in the past while.

I know a lot of people think it's fu*ked up and an ivasion of privacy. But it has saved me so much trouble with people, it's like my secret weapon... I've found out a few friends are not friends at all. And I've heard the unexpected folks speak up to defend me and that really warmed my heart. Then the novel-ness wore off and I stoped using it after about 3 weeks.

I have lent it to a few girls. One lady found her husband was selling drugs from her house where the children were. She had suspected that for a while but didn't have much proof.

In another case, a girl who just wouldn't listen when everyone told her that her fiancee was cheating, we finally managed to pursuade her not to mail the wedding invitations in the nick of time.

I know a lot of people disagree, but if you ever were in a situation where you just HAD to know the truth, there's nothing like hearing things straight from the horses mouth (even if by covert means). It was a wake-up call to me on several occasions.

Actually, the SpyPhone has become the subject of a creative writing project I'm doing, to be made into a screen-play. It's a bit of a thriller, inspired by some of my personal experiences. Basically it's about a girl and she's dating a suspicious arab guy, and the spyphone results in her getting more information than she planned for. I've already said too much but I will keep you posted if it ever gets made.

I'm sorry, but I think it's fucking hilarious. If you're going to talk shit, you better expect to get caught. I would NOT sit around and talk shit about my friends, so I got no problems with them putting a spy phone in my house if they want ;)

I would only do this if I suspected someone was doing me wrong. Like if I thought my boyfriend was cheating on me or like the woman whose hubby was selling drugs from their home.

Otherwise I think it's wrong and I would drop a friend that did this to me. I'm surprised you spent so much on it, I would have been at the mall!!

i used to have a problem, but i didnt have fancy software for my snooping. i sneaked my way into my ex's email account and found out he was cheating on me.
So when i became suspicious of my new bf i did it again and caught him cheating too.
i wouldn't do it again. Sometimes i feel like i wish i didn't know about my bf,and maybe he would have told me and broke it off anyway.
And i didn't realise that breaking into someones email account amounts to identity theft and is illegal.
But yeah listening into strangers private mettings is even worse. bad girl *smack* but i can understand the allure things like this have.

You know what? I found out that when I go to parties, I can steal stuff out of people's houses and not get caught because no one ever knows which one did it! Isn't it cool?? They don't even know I'm walking out with it!!

And best of all, I get to keep all this stuff, and no one ever knows. It's so addictive! But isn't it cool??

lol!

I have to admit that it seems pretty cool, I actually had a webcam set up to my computer in college because I suspected my roommate would pass out with the room unlocked, and then people would come in my room whenever they wanted to. Well I found something interesting, I actually saw my neighbor come into my room after my roommate had left for the shower. He took about 200-300 dollars worth of books right off my desk, literally staring directly at the camera. I called the police and copied the file for the police.

My roommate actually had no clue that I bought it, but after that she thought it was awesome! Amazing what a webcam in an inconspicuous place can do!

This cell phone though seems a little bit intrusive though. I mean you would have to be listening for a really long time before you actually were to pick up something, say in someone's car, especially with the way this thing seems to work. It doesn't actually record conversations, rather you can just listen to them which is why I think it's wrong. You can't skip through the crap like you could if it was recorded. Plus you're using it outside of your home although you do have a point, lending it to your friend who found out her husband was still dealing drugs with her kids around. Cases like this are viable. It doesn't take surveillance to figure out someone is a douche bag.

I can certainly understand how that can be addictive, but it really scares the crap out of me.
Well, I guess now you really do know what it's like to be a fly on the wall:p
There was something weird with my ex boyfriend's friend's land line phone. It had a habit of calling the last number back when someone forgot to put it all the way back on the hook. I would answer the phone expecting someone and then start hearing what was going on in his friend's house.
I sat there and listened to an entire conversation of theirs one day. It kind of tickled me. I listenend until I heard his friend say, "s'thing s'thing Ginger", then my boyfriend, "said, yeah I'm gonna give her a call." I hung up and then he rang me. Crazy!
I would never do the phone thing, but I like hidden cameras for private residences (not everywhere obviously).

I would get it to hear all the wonderful compliments that my friends give me when I'm not there and the subject of conversations. ;D

Lol, I'm kidding (about doing that, not about the compliments!). I wouldn't want to do that to my friends.

This thing is great to use on "certain" ppl. Like those two assholes who got busted, the cheating fiance and the scumbag drug dealer.
