You know what I noticed about Quebec? People here are more snobbish. I moved here 3 years ago from Ottawa, and I'll tell you, there is one hell of a difference. Sometimes, I walk into places where I *know* they speak only french and only speak to them in english... bear in mind the whole time I understand them... it's funny sometimes to see them get flustered lol... I'm mean (only when I want to)
By the way... Candie00... you'll start picking up on the french... watch some french TV with english subtitles, it sorta helps.

Oregonians are annoying to Canadians? Thats new to me... maybe its only Western Canada they are annoying to?

No! Who doesn't love Oregon? I think people out here either love Oregon, or don't know where it is ::). We hate Albertans. }:D (j/k!)

Where I grew up it was just the entire US that people didnt like.

You can always tell the Canadians overseas: they are the ones running around saying "We are not Americans! We are not Americans!"

I sometimes think if the lower 48 weren't there, you guys would have to create us . . . .

Nope. Love Canada, spend a lot of time there, and just like teasing Canadians because they are sensitive on the issue! And Toronto has some great clubs, by the way.

I always like Canadians, with very rare exceptions, partly stemming from the fact that I had a torrid affair with an Alberta girl who was a total sweetheart a few years ago, partly from the fact that my grandmother was from Winnipeg.

I have met two Canadians I didn't like, I think--but as I said, I'm biased.

What the hell is wrong with a customer who rejects or insults a sexy woman dancing because of her origins? Who gives a fuck? If she's sexy, she's sexy. That's crazy...

I will say this, though--inspite of growing up in metropolitan Detroit and going to college on the South Side of Chicago, and experiencing all the concomitant racial tension to be found in those places--the absolute worst racial tension I have ever experienced was on a bus in Montreal. Worse even than when all the huge black guys got on the El with the baseball bats, I swear.

You could have cut the air with a knife, their hatred was that palpable. Though it's true there were situations with greater potential for violence in Chicago, never was there such obvious hostility. The fact that my girlfriend at the time spoke fluent French didn't help at all--in fact I think it made it worse, since it was the wrong kind of French, like Parisian style instead of working class Montreal style. When she asked the driver a question he snarled his reply, and the glaring from the passengers increased even more from that we saw when we got on.

These were working class people unaccustomed to having American/quasi-French college kids who looked a bit wild in their neighborhood, on their bus. The fact that she was very pretty did no good at all. I forget how the hell we wound up there, trying toget to the other side of the city, I think, but we were very happy to get off that bus.
