^^ Oh man you are lucky you guys have hardwood floors. The place where I go to has carpeting and it smells. :yuck:
I'm going to try a different studio on Monday. It's in a nicer part of town and I am sure they keep it much cleaner.
^Ewww they need to Febreeze that shit :-\

I personally can't do it. It's just too hot, and it gives me really bad anxiety probably because I have a deviated septem, so I have a hard time breathing through my nose and when it is really humid someplace, I just can't breathe. I can't do saunas either.

Jeebus, 104 degrees? That would be a cool down temp down here in AZ, so heat shouldn't be a problem. Hell, I could just go do it outside? :P

I can see in the mirror that I've been slimming down. I don't own a scale.
My measurements are getting smaller too...

I'm looking around. So far I've found 2 Yoga businesses that strictly do bikram....
What exactly do you wear to classes? I might go to a class on Friday morning, one place advertises the first lesson for only $10

oh SW, you're such a bad influence. :P Or maybe a good one.
Whichever...I'm convinced to try it. I found a local studio and will be signing up for an intro package tomorrow.
how do you make sure your electrolytes are balanced and your minerals are ok, though? (besides nasty syrup-y sports drinks.)

I've seen people wear bathing suits to class. Or you can wear a sports bra and workout shorts. Don't wear shorts that are too loose. Wear something that fits close to your body because you'll be in positions where you could wind up giving a free show to some pervy guy LOL.
Trader Joes sells electrolyte enhanced water.
I'd bring about 3 L of chilled water with you for class. Drink plenty of water before and after. And don't eat 3 hours before class!! If you have to eat, have something light, like fruit.
Mot studios will offer a beginner's package, and they will lend you a mat/towels. I bring my own towel though.
It's hard, the heat isn't THAT bad, and when you are done you feel awesome. I'm now hooked. Going to class in about two hours!!

Yeah, right? I dunno how well I'd deal with the "go to hot class, then go outdoors to hotter heat". Hmm.. I might investigate next week, gotta work this weekend. Until then I'll do tons of online research.

I just came out of class. I went to a different studio today and while the studio was nicer and newer, it seemed like it was hotter than usual.
Girls, don't eat beforehand...I ate 2 hours before class (cottage cheese and melons) and I swear I had to leave the room b/c I thought I was going to hurl. I feel relaxed and mellow now, and I just ate so I am not nauseated anymore, but damn. Some classes feel harder than others, and today was not my best class. But for now I am going to pass out and tomorrow will be another day. Namaste.

good idea with the electrolyte-enhanced water; thanks!
bumping to ask...is it OK to take more than one class in a day?
As long as I'm drinking plenty of water and not getting dehydrated, is it safe?
I just went for the first time today and loved it. The studio offers classes really early in the morning and pretty late in the evening, and I'd love to take both sometimes.

You want to go to TWO classes in ONE day???!! :worship:
Damn, girl!
I don't know. I'd ask the folks at the studio. But def make sure you're drinking a lot of water.
I'm glad you liked it!! Don't you feel great afterwards? I get a high I'm not used to having with other workouts. I'm going again tomorrow.

^^ haha yeah...I was surprised that it didn't totally knock me on my ass. It was a strenuous workout for sure, but I didn't feel lightheaded or anything. I was really worried beforehand that I was going to pass out b/c I have low blood pressure and I practically wilt in the sun normally...but this was awesome. I felt amazing afterward! You're right...totally different (much better) high than normal cardio or weights.

^^ Aw, shit, you siggied me!!! *giggles*
End t/j.
Anyhoo, I went to 3 classes last week and it is getting easier for me to tolerate the heat. I've lost weight (not sure how much) but the folks at work have noticed. Yeahooo! Finally! Something that WORKS!!
I noticed that my appetite is more regulated, like I listen to my body more.

Going back tonight after a six-month hiatus. (I used to go 2x a week.) Honestly, I'm nervous about tonight. But Bikram did astounding things for my mood, weight, back problems and body shape. It's good for me, and I have to get back into it.

I still wanna try this but I'm afraid I'll get lightheaded. When I take hot baths I often get lightheaded afterwards and have to lay down. Do you all think this will happen w/ the bikram too?

It might. Some people just don't do well in the heat. That said, you're not punished if you don't work out. You can lie on the matt at any time; in fact, I've seen lots of experienced people take a time out with the so-called "dead pose" (Shavasana). For instance, when I started, there was a move--Camel, I think--that I always "sat" out. Eventually, when I got my courage up, I tried it, and could do it!

I think I will get scared because everytime I go in the sauna I have this fear that it will explode. Yes I know it's stupid but I think that with the stove too.

Stoves? Nawww. Microwaves, on the other hand... I never stand in front of 'em when they're on.

I fell off the wagon, but once I make some $$$ this week, I'll be starting again on next week. I really like it, but it can be so darn expensive!
I wanna get back into it, though. I've bee so busy, I havent worked out in like 3 weeks!!!

Bikram! I'm back, baby. I just barely survived class last night. I sat out two poses and sucked at the ones I did do. But I feel marvelous this morning and slept like a rock last night.
On the question of expense: I always rent two towels and a mat, and I also buy a bottle of water. This works out to $4/class, but I find the efficiencies in not having to haul this stuff around (and, especially, wash the towels) worth it.

^^ The studio where I go charges $17/class, and if I wanted to rent towels and a mat, it would cost me $4, so it's $21 a class.
I could buy a 10 class card for $140, but still...it adds up!
